Robert (Bob) is an IFBB Pro Classic Physique competitor who’s been competing since 2008. Not only that, he turned pro naturally, which is a massive if not near impossible thing to do in an untested federation, especially in Classic.
As you can imagine we chat about all things training, dieting and competing and there’s lots of good advice for those of us wanting to lose body fat and gain muscle naturally.
We also delve into Bob’s journey with competing and the key things that he’s learnt throughout his journey.
For unforeseen circumstances we had to record this episode in my apartment kitchen slash dining room so I’ve done my best to make the audio sound as clean as I can.

This is the very first ‘mates special’ and I’m stoked that Caleb was able to join me. Caleb and I have been mates for at least 15 years and have done a lot in that time. I even lived with him and his fam during my last 2 years of highschool so many fun adventures were had haha.
This is a really light-hearted episode filled with lots of laughs but there’s also some really good learnings to be found as well.
As always, I hope you enjoy the episode and feel free to like, comment and subscribe.
I’m lucky to be joined by Simone Brick. Simone is a trail runner based Australia. She competes in a lot of international races including the Golden Trail series which is also a Youtube series where I first saw her and what she does. So I’d highly recommend checking out that series if you haven’t watched it already. She’s also fresh off the back of winning the Old Ghost in the South Island which is a 85km trail race.
In this episode we dive into a lot of interesting topics ranging from intrinsic motivation, to the specific differences between road running and trail running. I do wanna give you a heads up that we touch on Simone’s journey with her mental health and also with an eating disorder, I acknowledge that these topics can be quite close to home.

We also drill down to more specific details like the protocols that Cass has in place to ensure her hormones are where they need to be.

Today I have the privilege of chatting to Fred Falloon. He’s a super interesting and articulate guy. He’s currently doing a masters in philosophy, politics and economics. He’s also been at training in the gym for over 10 years, he’s a personal trainer and he’s also going to compete in his first classic physique show this year.
As you can imagine there’s a bunch of topics that we explore in our chat. A few of the key things that we discuss are the varying negative aspects of becoming addicted to training; the crossover of learnings between physical training and academic pursuits and also advice for beginners when starting on any type of fitness journey.

I’m very appreciative to have Karanama on the podcast today. We’re mates from our days of personal training at Les Mills and more than that, he’s always been someone I’ve looked up to for his ability to relate to people, to work hard and for the way he embraces te ao Māori.
In this episode we delve into Kara’s journey from a personal and professional perspective in relation to fitness and also how te ao Māori is woven into everything he does.
There’s a lot of useful insights for personal trainers or aspiring personal trainers. As well as that I think you’ll find this episode useful if you’re wanting to learn about work ethic, thriving in many varying contexts and also how embrace being yourself.

In this episode I had the honour of Karlina Tongotea joining me. She’s a powerlifter and not only that she’s a world record holder for the 76kg weight class and she’ll be representing New Zealand at Sheffields and the World Champs this year.
In our chat we focus a lot on the broader impact that competing at such a high level can have on your life. As well as that Karlina shares some practical advice for those of you who are wanting to get into powerlifting and then also how she uses the tool of mindfulness to help cope with the different emotions that come with the sport of powerlifting.
As a disclaimer - This was my first time recording in the office by myself and unfortunately the motion sensor lights turned off a couple of times

Josh and I caught up for a good yarn as we hadn't chatted in ages. We talk about his experience moving from NZ to Australia and the key learnings he's gathered along the way. We also share our thoughts on when to take rest days and when to push through. Then we finish up with where we're at with the podcast and our individual plans from here.
I hope you enjoy listening! And keep lifting 😎💪
