It’s not news to say that marriages are struggling. Statistics show that 50% of first marriages will end in divorce (in and outside the church) and second marriages have an even greater chance of ending in divorce. With twenty years as a Marriage and Family Therapist, I’ve worked with couples in just about every stage of marriage and have found some key factors in whether marriages make it or not. So today we’re going to talk about hope and help for marriages with our guest, Dr. Greg Smalley. 

 

Dr. Smalley serves as the vice president of Marriage and Family Formation at Focus on the Family.  In this role, he develops and oversees initiatives that prepare individuals for marriage, strengthen and nurture existing marriages, and help couples in marital crisis. Prior to joining Focus on the Family, Smalley worked for the Center for Relationship Enrichment at John Brown University and served as president of the National Institute of Marriage. He is the author of 17 books including, “Fight Your Way to a Better Marriage”, “The DNA of Parent and Teen Relationships”, and “The Whole-Hearted Marriage”. He and his wife, Erin, co-created “Ready to Wed”, a complete premarital curriculum for engaged couples, and the online Focus on Marriage Assessment. They also released “Crazy Little Thing Called Marriage: 12 Secrets to a Lifelong Romance” in 2016. Married since 1992, Greg and Erin live in Colorado with their three daughters, Taylor, Murphy and Annie, and their son, Garrison. Dr. Smalley brings at least one child to every age-appropriate event, exposing them to the crucial role marriage plays in the family and society.

Are you concerned about internet safety for your kids? Where are kids vulnerable today? Is TikTok safe or not? What makes a kid more vulnerable to an online predator? With twenty years of experience, he has developed internet safety presentations to help educate kids, parents, and anybody who works with children on the topic of internet safety. There are so many things loving parents don't know about technology and the ways it is used to harm children. BJ is married with two children of his own and cares deeply about helping children be smart when it comes to their gaming, phones, and social media. This is a must-listen and with such an important topic, we extended our time a bit. From questions like, "What do predators know that parents don't know?" to "Is Tick Tock okay for our kids - why or why not?" and "What is the one thing every parent NEEDS to know before they hand their child a smartphone?", BJ answers with so much wisdom and truth.
