Locked On Angels - Daily Podcast On The Los Angeles Angels

The Los Angeles Angels gave Phil Nevin the chance to manage a big-league club for the very first time in his career once Joe Maddon was let go from the team in 2022. Since then, he's been brought back to take the reigns in 2023 and will have at least this year to show his skills. Today on Locked On Angels, the Super Halo Bros. take a look back at Phil Nevin's career, what those who have played for him have to say about him, and, as fans, how do we feel about him? We'll ask whether his passion is good for this team, take a look at his connection to the players, and share why we believe it's important that Phil Nevin got another chance to manage the Halos in 2023!

The Los Angeles Angels are set to get 85 wins in 2023; that's according to FanGraphs' projections. How did they come up with that number, and what do they take into consideration to determine how many wins our Halos and the rest of the league will earn? The Super Halo Bros. will tell you all about it in segment 1!

In segment 2, we'll take a look at if 85 projected wins are good enough to punch a ticket to a Wildcard spot and see who the Angels would be in competition with for one of the three spots. We then ask; is a Wildcard spot "good enough" for the Halos, or is it a bad thing?

Plus, we ask three important questions: Is a Wildcard spot good enough for Shohei Ohtani to stay? Is it good enough for the fans? Will it be enough for Phil Nevin and Perry Minasian to keep their jobs? We'll break it all down for you in segment 3!

The Los Angeles Angels' offense absolutely struggled in 2022, which was a surprise considering the Halos' pitching was usually the problem in past years. Why did it struggle so badly? The main issue was a lack of Major-League talent to supplement injuries or days off, and it showed during the most difficult parts of the season. Today on Locked On Angels, the Super Halo Bros. will tell you why the offense will be much better in 2023. In segment 1, we'll talk about the additions the Angels made during the offseason.

In segment 2, we'll share exactly why the Angels struggled so badly and take a look at some statistics that demonstrate the cause behind the offense issue. You'll be surprised, or maybe not, at some of these numbers and the kinds of players the Halos ran out to the plate in 2022.

Finally, in segment 3, we'll share why the Angels will be MUCH better in 2023! The additions they've made in Gio Urshela, Hunter Renfroe, and Brandon Drury will go a long way in helping our Angels score runs and win games, and we'll tell you how they'll do it!

The Los Angeles Angels Invited 38 Non-Roster Invitees to Spring Training in 2023, giving fans a look at some players who could help the Halos in 2023 and some who might be the future of the franchise. With many of our stars like Mike Trout, Shohei Ohtani, Patrick Sandoval, and David Fletcher playing in the World Baseball Classic, we'll have the chance to see many of these guys in action once Spring Training arrives. In segment 1, we'll give you the list of the 38 players invited and share our thoughts on those that stand out.

Then, Jon will share the three players that he's watching closely in Spring Training. Ben Joyce, Sam Bachman, and Mason Erla, all of whom are pitchers, are top 20 prospects in the Angels system, and will be intriguing to watch on the mound as they look to take a step forward in their careers. Jon will share his thoughts on each pitcher and what he's looking for as they get some work in this Spring.

Plus, Mike shares his three picks for who he's watching in Spring Training: Eric Torres, Chad Wallach, and Jordyn Adams. While we got to see Wallach with the big-league club last season, will he impress enough to earn a spot as a backup catcher? Will Torres' impressive job saving games for the Trash Pandas earn him a spot, and can Jordyn Adams take the necessary steps to show that he's a future outfielder for the Angels? Mike shares his thoughts on all three in segment 3!

The Los Angeles Angels are nearing Spring Training and the start of the season, and today, we're taking a look at what the Angels do have and what they are still missing. What are the solutions for the 6th starter, the bullpen, and shortstop? We'll weigh the pros and cons of who the Halos do have, and who they may want to pursue in free agency.

First, we'll look at who the Angels have on the roster who could potentially fill that 6th starter spot, including Chase Silseth, Griffin Canning, and a surprise pick from Mike! Then, we'll take a look at some free agents, who are still available, such as Michael Wacha, and weigh the pros and cons of going in-house or signing Wacha to round out the rotation.

Then, we'll discuss the Angels' bullpen and their pursuit of a left-hander. Out of the options of Andrew Chafin, Zack Britton, Matt Moore, and Will Smith, who would be the best choice for the Halos? We'll take a look at the stats and consider who may be an impact arm out of the bullpen!

Plus, we've discussed the need for a shortstop all off-season, and with very few intriguing options left in free agency, are we better off letting Luis Rengifo or David Fletcher play the field, or would someone like Jose Iglesias or Elvis Andrus make for a better option? Let's find out!
