Locked On Avalanche - Daily Podcast On The Colorado Avalanche

The Colorado Avalanche were all in for Claude Giroux, but he decided he wanted to go to the warmer climate of Florida and play for the Panthers. With the Avs missing out on the big fish of the trade deadline, does this wrap up their moves or does Joe Sakic have another plan up his sleeve?

The Avalanche will welcome the Edmonton Oilers for the first time this season, and when McDavid and Co come to town it's always a must watch game. Edmonton is riding a five game winning streak and have moved into a comfortable position in the Pacific. Can the Avs slow them down and continue their stellar season?

The Colorado Avalanche completed a short and sweet two game west coast California trip with a 5-3 win over San Jose. The Avs jumped to a 4-0 lead but the Sharks battled back to pull within one. The Avs found an empty net to put the game away and pick up their 93rd point on the season.

Cale Makar continued his stellar season getting three more points on the night bringing him to 69 on the season. Nathan MacKinnon had a hat trick of assists and Val Nichushkin found the net twice including the empty netter to put the game away.

The Avalanche seem to be one of two teams that could land big trade fish Claude Giroux by Monday. Work is the Panthers have the lead in trading for the veteran, but nobody is counting the Avalanche out. We should find out over the weekend.

Another day closer to the NHL trade deadline and we had a lot of movement, none involving the Avalanche directly, but could any of the moves made be felt by the Avs down the road and in the playoffs?

Chris and Kyle break down the moves around the league Wednesday such as Ben Chiarot to the Florida Panthers and will that make it more difficult for the Panthers to add Claude Giroux? Does Calgary adding Calle Jarnkrok move the needle all that much?

It was a bittersweet day for Avalanche fans. On one hand, it was game day and the newest member of the team, Josh Manson, was in the lineup for his first game in Avs colors against the Los Angeles Kings.

On the other hand, a fan favorite in Tyson Jost was traded. Ending an up and down career with the Avalanche that never truly tapped his full potential. What made matters worse is the team Jost was traded to was the much hated Minnesota Wild. The Avalanche received forward Nico Sturm in return in the one for one deal.

Sturm is essentially a bigger version of Jost as their production is pretty similar. But Sturm comes as more than a million dollars less than Jost, which leads us to believe the Avs are freeing up as much cap space as possible for another bigger move before the deadline is over.

Joe Sakic is at it again. We knew the Avalanche would be buyers at the deadline, the question is always who are the players? Well at least for the first move it was Anaheim Ducks defenseman Josh Manson. The Avalanche sent a 2nd round pick in 2023 as well as prospect Drew Helleson to Anaheim. Good move? Let's talk about it.

We also tackle some great listener questions about a variety of things from Landy or Forsberg and ask the question if the Avs had the #1 pick in 2017, would they still have gone with Makar?

It was not that long ago the Avs and Flames played one of the best games of the Avs season. Calgary took the game in OT. But tonight, the Avs avenge that loss with a 3-0 win. Darcy Kuemper was taken out of the last game against the Flames, and he had a score to settle. Which he did in stopping all 46 Calgary shots.

Nathan MacKinnon added two goals and Mikko Rantanen found an empty net, which is all the Avs would need in this very important game for the Avs.

The NHL season is a long one and teams are going to go through so rough patches. Right now is one of those moments for the Colorado Avalanche. If moral victories counted the Avs would add to their already league leading points total. But, they do not. The Avs played well and took every punch Carolina threw at them. Once the Avalanche settled in, they took control of the game for large parts. But nothing would go in.

It was a no call against a held Nazem Kadri that would lead to the first and only goal Carolina would need. Add an empty net goal and there is our final score.

Chris and Kyle break it all down as well as provide their Sound Check and why Sammy G was not in action.

You know we have been off the past couple days so we could take in the past two Avalanche games live. The Avalanche vs Islanders saw the Avs hang on to a 5-4 win after building a 5-1 lead in the 3rd. While the Avs vs Devils saw Colorado lose a three goal lead and give five unanswered to the Devils.

Kyle also got to hang out with former Avalanche Ryan Graves for a nice tour around the Prudential Center and talk some hockey with him.

We also get to our Sound Check for both games and what to expect tonight against Carolina!

Hockey fans were looking forward to this one. Two of the leagues top teams squared off for the first time this season and it did not dissapoint.

We expected a physical and skillful game and that is exactly what the Colorado Avalanche and Calgary Flames offered. Regulation wasn't enough, but less than a minute into the OT session, the Flames got one past Pavel Francouz and left Denver with a 4-3 win.

The Avalanche had their chances, but missed on some of them that could have put the game away. The good news is Calgary will be back in Colorado in a week for the Avs to extract some revenge.

Samuel Girard simply did not play well. And he hasn't played well over the last several weeks. But is that enough for the Avs to move on from him? The fan base seems to think so. Chris and Kyle, not so much.

If the Avalanche and Coyotes were to play again and the Avs game out firing everything they had at Arizona, it's possible they hang 10 on the Yotes. But that's that happens when a goalie is locked in. Karel Vejmelka was on his game and allowed a single Devon Toews goal, then shut the doors.

The last thing the Avs wanted to do was head into the weekend with a loss. The Calgary Flames, one of the hottest teams in the league, come to town for the first time this season. But maybe a loss to one of the worst teams in the league will get the Avalanche fired up to find ways to get a few more pucks in the net.
