Locked On Avalanche - Daily Podcast On The Colorado Avalanche

Ok, we know these things take time and most of the juicy deals will happen closer to deadline day. We're impatient. But, don't we kind of hand a general idea of who and what the Avalanche will need to give up to land the players rumored for them to be scouting? So what's the hold up!?

Chris and Kyle discuss this time period and the need to have patience. We also talk about a new Amazon technology that can predict who will win the faceoff in real time. The Avalanche should be at the door requesting one.

Finally, we talk about what to expect from the Avs tonight against Arizona.

The Colorado Avalanche once again had to play the comeback role. This time against the New York Islanders.

The Avs and Isles have not met since 2020, but there was no getting to know you period. Both teams were on their game, and the Islanders gave the Avalanche everything they had and then some. Even taking a lead into the 3rd period, and even potentially taking a late lead after the Avs tied it up early in the 3rd. But replay showed the puck did not completely cross the line and the goal was reversed.

About a minute later, Andre Burakovsky found the net for his 3rd goal in as many games and the Avs would take their 40th win of the season. 5-3 on Jack Johnson's 1000th game.

Another month of the season is set to begin, and for the Avalanche that means 7 home games and 8 away. With the majority of them against the Pacific division. If you have been waiting to see what the Avs can do against the Calgary Flames, well you are in luck. The Avs and Flames face off three times this month. Overall, it looks to be a very favorable schedule for Colorado.

Chris and Kyle also take an opportunity to play a little bit of What If.

What if the Avs win it all this year. Do they become a free agent destination?

What If Nathan MacKinnon really does take less money on his next contract?

What if this team achieves the most points in franchise history and wins the Cup? Are they the best team in franchise history?

We've been saying it for weeks now. This Colorado Avalanche team just keeps finding ways to win, and they did it yet again against the Vegas Golden Knights.

Vegas was doing well limiting the Avalanche chances, but for 26 seconds they didn't, and that made the difference in the Avs 3-2 victory Saturday night.

Darcy Kuemper got the start after two subpar outings and looked fresh and rested. Tyson Jost, on the other hand, was a coaches decision and did not play. How much should be read into that?

All that plus our Sound Check, and the petty Vegas Three Stars of the Game

The Avalanche didn't look awful in the first period, but they still found themselves down 3-0 to the Winnipeg Jets. It took Gabriel Landeskog's first of three goals to get the Avalanche on the board, and once that happened the dam opened up.

The Avalanche would score a six unanswered goals and eventually win 6-3 against the Jets, giving the Avs 80 points on the season. The first team to do so this year.

The sign of a good team is not letting the bad moments linger around for any longer than you need to. The Avalanche have done very well this year in following up a loss with a win, and they did it again Wednesday night in Detroit, beating the Red Wings 5-2.

The Avalanche worst game of the season so far is likely the pathetic effort against the Toronto Maple Leafs in Toronto. The game right behind that is the Monday matchup against Boston. But the Avalanche moved on from the Boston beatdown and took control of this game from the opening puck drop with a dominating opening shift that resulted in a Gabriel Landeskog goal.

The Avs put it in cruise control after a Tyson Jost goal made it 2-0, and despite the Wings getting one to pull within one, you always felt like the Avs knew exactly what they needed to do for a victory.

Chris and Kyle break it all down as well as give their Sound Check songs of the game!

There are good aspects to social media. It can connect you with friends from your high school days, it keeps you connected to loved ones and family and it can even connect you to a celerity or a sports super star. But with every positive there are of course negatives. This is no surprise of course, but it's attached itself to the Nathan MacKinnon slash to a referee in the 3rd period of the Avs / Bruins game.

MacKinnon should not have done what he did. He wasn't trying to make contact with a ref, but he did. And in our opinion he probably should at the most get a fine. It was an accident and it should still be punished monetarily. Ask the people of social media though, and you would think MacKinnon something nothing short of murder on ice that the FBI should be involved in.

Chris and Kyle take a look at some of those comments, and discuss why people to go the extremes they do when given a avenue to speak.

The Colorado Avalanche are at the point of the season where games like this should not happen. Sure, you're going to lose some games. But getting manhandled for a full 60 minutes when you are at this stage of the season, in the position the Avs are in should not happen.

But it did. At least on this day. And maybe you can take away some things from this such as the simple fact that it happened, and the Avs need to come out with more energy from the opening puck drop.

No, things were not bouncing the Avs way all night while things seemed to be going the Bruins way every single time. But even if the Avs did get some things going their way, this was all Boston.

Now the question is, with the lack of production lately from the bottom six, does Joe Sakic make a move to bring in some fresh blood sooner rather than later? Time will tell. I wouldn't wait too long.

Chris and Kyle break it all down as well as provide their Sound Check songs that summarizes the action.

Many people consider Joe Sakic's best trade move as a GM to be when he gave two 2nd round picks to the Islanders in exchange for Devon Toews. So for him to be in attendance for the Islanders / Canadiens game, people raise an eyebrow thinking he could be zeroing in on another Islander.

That remains to be seen, but the fact he was there tells you the man is ready to deal. Chris and Kyle take a look at both rosters and which players could potentially be on the Avs GM's radar.

The guys also discuss the Avalanche game over the weekend against the Buffalo Sabres, and while it was not the best game for the Avs, they did manage a 5-3 win. Can we expect a different effort this afternoon against Boston? Does the afternoon start times have anything to do with how the Avs play?

Since we had a couple days off between games and we are in the midst of the trade deadline season, why not take a look at some of the players rumored to potentially be available at the trade deadline and if they would fit with the Avalanche. Both in style of play and cap wise.

Chris and Kyle go through 10 players the Avalanche could take a look at (well, really nine) and break down if the Avs could make it work with their salary cap, as well as if the style of play the Avalanche play fits with that specific player.

We also end the show by selecting the one guy we personally want to obtain as well as the one guy most likely to be obtained.
