Locked On Avalanche - Daily Podcast On The Colorado Avalanche

Sure it is big news when one of the leagues stars returns to action. It's bigger news when that player returns with a brand new team. The Colorado Avalanche went into Vegas and broke up the Jack Eichel love fest with a solid 2-0 victory, sending the Vegas crowd home defeated.

Darcy Kuemper was spectacular in net, shutting down all 29 shots sent his way. He has been a beast since the new year and is he even playing his way into the Vezina conversation? If he continues to play like this how can he not be?

Chris and Kyle break it all down and give their Sound Check songs of the game!

The timing of our crossover with Tony Cordasco of Locked on Golden Knights is as coincidental as Mark Stone finding his way to LTIR. You can be sure Chris and Kyle have a lot of questions for Tony and how Vegas is going to handle all the cap issues starring them in the face. And Tony pulls no punches when it comes to just how he thinks they will handle it.

We also discuss the next matchup between the two clubs and how a budding rivalry is making any game between Vegas and Colorado a must watch event.

Tony is a ton of fun so be sure to tune into this special episode!

Sometimes, you just run into a goalie who's in shutdown mode. That's exactly what the Colorado Avalanche ran into with Jake Oettinger of the Dallas Stars.

The Avs threw everything they could at Oettinger, 47 SOG in total, but could only crack him once. Dallas on the other hand got three past Pavel Francouz (one a questionable goalie interference no call on Pavelski). Nonetheless, the Avs were going to have to win ugly if they were to win at all, and Oettinger was simply not going to be denied.

We also discuss the hot topic in Avalanche circles. Claude Giroux. Is he on his way to the Avs and what will it take to bring him to the west coast.

The Colorado Avalanche and Dallas Stars are in the midst of a back to back, so what better time to do a crossover with Dane Lewis, host of the Locked on Stars podcast. Dane discusses the Stars season so far, what is working well for them, what is not, and answers the question as to why are we hearing Joe Pavelski's name so much in trade rumors when the Stars are right on the doorstep of a playoff spot?

Dane also asks us some Avalanche specific questions, which we are always ready and willing to gloat and gush over our Avs.

The Colorado Avalanche and Tampa Bay Lightning met up for their first game since the All-Star break in Denver, and while some thought it might take a little for both teams to get back into game mode (some people meaning Chris and Kyle) nothing was further from the truth.

The Avs came out fired up and got two goals on Vasilevskiy. But he then proved why he is an all world goalie and made life difficult for the Avs for the remainder of the game. The problem for Tampa was Avalanche goalie Darcy Kuemper made life equally as difficult for them, and in the end Kuemper was one goal better than Vasilevskiy.

Chris and Kyle break it all down as well as discuss a Joe Sakic pre game press conference where he discussed several things, including a Nathan MacKinnon contract extension.

With the second half of the season set to kick off tonight, what's a better time than now to check in with our favorite rivals in the Minnesota Wild? Host Seth Toupal joins to discuss everything going on with the Wild. From why he stayed away from the Winter Classic game, to if they are riding Talbot too hard, to why they are a real contender to nab Claude Giroux from the Philadelphia Flyers. Do the Wild have a wild card in their pocket when it comes to a deal for the veteran? It's something Chris and Kyle never considered prior to talking with Seth.

The Colorado Avalanche and outdoor games have not gone hand in hand. Out of the three outdoor games the Avs have taken part in, they have lost two and the one they did win took over 12 hours to complete. With the league announcing the Winter Classic game will take part at Fenway Park in Boston and making up for the lost Stadium Series game in Carolina, do the Avs have a chance to play in either of these games?

We also have some fun with awards as we hand out not only actual NHL awards, but make up some fun awards of our own to give to you Avalanche players.

The All-Star weekend festivities are, thankfully, over. The Avalanche were well represented in Vegas with Nazem Kadri and Cale Makar taking part, as well as Jared Bednar coaching the Central for the game. Chris and Kyle talk about the weekend and if it won either of them over for future All-Star weekends (spoiler: it didn't)

We also finish up our mid season grades as we hand out letters for the forwards.

Cale Makar and Nazem Kadri will of course take part in the playing of the NHL All-Star Game. In addition, they will take part in some of the events that occur the day prior to the game. Makar will pit himself against the likes of the fastest in the league in the speed competition, while Kadri will take part in a new event where players try to get their best hand of blackjack. I can't make that up.

We also take a look at the first half of the season and hand out grades to the defensemen and our goalies.

As we hit the halfway point of the season it's always good to look back at where we were and where we are now. For the Avalanche, so much has happened since game 1 against Chicago. Some good, some bad.

Today Chris and Kyle look at some of the highs and lows of the first 44 games of the year.
