It would have been so nice to go into the All-Star break with the home winning streak and overall winning streak in tact, but sometimes hockey is funny that way.
One would have thought it would have. Seeing as how the Avs have been winning all year and the Coyotes have struggled to win at all. The Avs were even 30 seconds away from extending those streaks too. But the hockey Gods said not today. Arizona forced OT, then a shoot out where a lone Arizona goal was enough to send the Avs into the break with their home winning streak gone.
Kyle and Chris break it all down and look for the silver lining as to why it isn't all bad.

Nazem Kadri's career year continued yesterday when he added the 1st Star of the Week to the season resume. Now the question is, if he can continue this for the remainder of the season, how good are his chances of winning the Hart Trophy? Will he get recognized or will he lose out to the more 'household' names?
We also talk about the two streaks the Avs currently have going in their home winning stream (currently at 18 games) and their overall winning streak (currently at 10). We take a look at the schedule and look at the teams they need to beat in order to claim both records.
Finally, this is the last game before a week off. The Avs obviously want to end on a positive note, but which players individually want to make this game their All-Star game?

The Colorado Avalanche didn't have to battle from behind Sunday night against the Buffalo Sabres, but it wasn't a walk in the park by any stretch either. A goal, followed by a power play goal thanks to an unsuccessful Buffalo challenge, separated the Avs from the Sabres, 4-1. The Avs now hold an 18 game winning streak at home, a 16 game point streak and a 10 game overall winning streak.
But it wasn't all pretty. The Avalanche didn't have the jump we are accustomed to, and forward Andre Burakovsky was demoted to the 3rd line mid game. If that wasn't bad enough, the one who replaced him was Dylan Sikura. An AHL callup from a few days ago. Does this mean anything long term for Burky, or was this just an off night in a series of off nights for the Avs forward?
Chris and Kyle break it all down as well as the latest installment of the LOPN: Sound Check.

This years Colorado Avalanche are an offensive powerhouse of a team. Because of that, are there some all time records within the franchise (both Avalanche and Nordiques) that guys on this roster could match or beat? Could the most goals in a game (5) get matched? Most Assists in a game (5)? Most points in a game (8)? What about most wins in a season (52)?
In any other Avs season it might be a tall order, and while it still may be, if any Avs team can match or beat these records, it's this years team.
Also, with the Comcast-Altitude conflict still going on, there is a new way to watch the Altitude network and thus, the Avalanche. Evoca TV could be your saving grace if you want to start watching your boys in burgundy and blue again.

Do you have your voices back yet!? In what will easily be one of the best games of the Avalanche season, the Avs found themselves down two in the 3rd, found a way to tie it late to send it into overtime where Cale Makar finished off the comeback. The Avalanche extended their home winning streak to 17 games and their overall winning streak to eight.
It isn't all sunshine for the Avs however. Minutes into the game Nathan MacKinnon's stick came back and hit him in the face from a hit by Taylor Hall. MacKinnon was left bloodied and with a clearly broken nose. He did not return.
Chris and Kyle break down all the action as well as give their LOPN: Sound Check songs of the game that best reflect the action on the ice.

Remove the first season Jared Bednar took over for the Colorado Avalanche and he has done nothing but win (yes the Cup has proven elusive so far). He has been up for the Jack Adams award in the past but has yet to win it. To coach a team with such high expectations, and provide a winner in the process is no easy task. But as far as regular seasons go, Jared Bednar has been exactly what Joe Sakic and the Avalanche faithful have hoped for.
So how is it that when nhl.com polled 16 of it's writers, Jared Bednar was nowhere to be seen? Not even cracking the top 5 in votes received? Is this something Avalanche fans should be preparing for come the end of the year, and will it go beyond Bednar? Will Sakic get shut out again for best GM, will Makar lose out in the Norris? Maybe something to prepare for.
The Reverse Retro uniforms were a big hit last year, and the crappy thing about it was they were introduced during a shortened season. That could change are rumors are swirling that the retro's could make a return next season, with the added benefit of changing them up if a team chooses to do so. What should the Avs do?

The Colorado Avalanche kept their home winning streak in tact with a 2-0 win over the Chicago Blackhawks. The Avs streak now stands at 16 games and questions are now being asked if they can make a run at the all time streak of 23 games held by the Detroit Red Wings.
Many questions have been asked throughout the season so far about the Avs goaltending. But all that seems to be forgotten at least in the short term, and both Pavel Francouz and Darcy Kuemper have been playing exceptionally well the past few weeks. Is it time to put to bed the idea that the Avs need to acquire a goalie at the deadline because these two are playing so well?
But what about players that are not playing well and might be involved in any deal the Avs could potentially make? Chris and Kyle break it all down.

The Colorado Avalanche continue to win and continue to do it seemingly in a different fashion every night.
Kyle and Chris discuss the last two games for the Avs. One in which the LA Kings were the dominant team, but the Avalanche won 4-1. Then against the worst team in the league where the Avalanche needed OT to win, 3-2. Is there any concern about the Canadiens taking the Avs to OT, or is that just hockey?

You almost knew the 3rd match up between the Colorado Avalanche and Anaheim Ducks would have a different feel to it considering the Avs won both previous games rather convincingly. Anaheim came out with a different game plan and for most of the game it was working. They just didn't have anything to show for it on the scoreboard thanks to Avs goalie Pavel Francouz.
John Gibson on the Ducks side wasn't making it any easier for the Avalanche, and one knuckle puck that got behind him was exactly what and how the Avs were going to win this one. Tack on an empty netter from Nazem Kadri and the Avs sweep the season series from Anaheim.

We did it! Thanks to the Colorado Avalanche fans who stuffed the virtual ballot boxes, Nazem Kadri will be the 3rd Colorado Avalanche in this years All-Star Game, along with head coach Jared Bednar who will be coaching the Central Division. Kadri received more votes than anyone on the ballot across all divisions. For someone who is having a career year, it's no surprise and well deserved.
We also found out that the league will not hand down any discipline for Jordan Greenway after his hit on Avalanche goalie Darcy Kuemper that removed Kuemper from the game and not return. Should the league have sent Greenway at least a fine?
Word is the league will be releasing the schedule for the games that need to be made up, which will happen in February. For the Avalanche, this means seven games, five of which are on the road.
