Locked On Avalanche - Daily Podcast On The Colorado Avalanche

It's always fun to play the role of GM. In your own world you are giving up very little and getting a king's ransom in return. That is what a Chicago Blackhawks website did when they offered up three different trades with the Colorado Avalanche. In all three scenarios the Avalanche inherit Patrick Kane, what they give up is something that needs to be discussed.

Would you do any of them? Tune in and find out our thoughts!

The Colorado Avalanche returned to play for the first time since their December 16th game against the Nashville Predators. We expected some rust having been sidelined for that long, and we got some early on and the Avs found themselves down 2-0. But once the Avs found their legs, the comeback began and the Avs scored four unanswered for a 4-2 comeback win over the Anaheim Ducks.

Chris and Kyle break down the action. Who looked good, what went right and how can the Avs build on this going forward?

Today, they discuss a recent classic game, and a certain fight that set the tone for a playoff series.

They guys also discuss the surprise decision to cancel the World Juniors tournament and if they will even attempt to make it up over the summer.

Finally, even a hockey podcast has to say goodbye to one of the greatest of another sport. John Madden passed away and we look back at everything he gave to the sport of football and the video game industry.

The Colorado Avalanche were pushing their fans to log in daily and make Cale Makar the captain of the Central Division for the All-Star Game in February in Vegas. We aren't saying Makar isn't deserving. He should definitely be in the conversation. But it was somewhat surprising and a little funny that the guy the Avs were pushing fans to vote for isn't leading the vote. It's another Avalanche player entirely in Nathan MacKinnon. Should we be surprised by this? And are All-Star games even necessary. If they are, who should go? The genuine league all-stars or players just having a good season? Kyle and Chris discuss.

They also get into the Brad Marchand comments about the league and the Olympics. Marchand is not happy the league has no problem instituting taxi squads for NHL games and feels like they should do the same for the Olympics. Is he right?

Finally, since it is the end of the year, Kyle and Chris will look into some of their favorite moments from the Avs in 2021.

First the Colorado Avalanche game Monday night against the Vegas Golden Knights was cancelled, then came work the next two games on Wednesday and Friday against the Dallas Stars would be cancelled as well.

We can at least take some solace knowing that the Avalanche team is on the mend and these cancellations are due to the Stars having several players added to the protocol list at the pro and AHL levels that made it impossible for them to put a full team out on the ice.

But in the end, we have to wait even longer know the the Avalanche return to action. Because this is yet another season that COVID is causing chaos in, are we at the point where we are giving players, coaches and teams a pass if they don't produce up to expectations?

The Colorado Avalanche have not played a game in the last 10 days and we were all ready for their return on Monday against the Vegas Golden Knights. Well that won't happen either as the league pushed their COVID pause out an extra day, cancelling all games on Monday.

In addition, the league released new roster protection rules. And while they are something, they still have us scratching our heads when it comes to the taxi squad rules.

With the season and the Colorado Avalanche on pause for a bit, now is a good time to take a look at what have been some surprises so far this season with the Avs? Good ones and bad ones.

Kyle and Chris also dive into that age old sports question of who belongs on a teams Mount Rushmore. Joe Sakic, Patrick Roy and Peter Forsberg seems to be locks probably forever. But Kyle pitches the idea that maybe one of those three aren't so set in stone as you would think with the likes of current players like Gabriel Landeskog, Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar in the midst of all time careers for the Avs. Would more than one of them make the Avs all time Rushmore?

It's been over two years since Colorado Avalanche games went dark in the Denver area due to a dispute between Comcast and the Altitude Network. But that looks like it might be coming to an end soon. There is no official word yet, but reports state both side are closer now than ever before. So get ready for Avalanche games on Comcast!

Well, not just yet. Because the league appears to be going on a brief shut down thanks to COVID. Kyle and Chris discuss who can take the time off to benefit from the break.

Finally we also ask the question on how the watchability of the Olympics is, now that the NHL players won't be attending (allegedly). Hockey is one of, if not the biggest events at the Olympics and does not having NHL players there when we were told there would be, hurt the ratings?

Here we are again. The Colorado Avalanche finished their game Thursday night against the Nashville Predators, and then found out the next day their season would be put on hold until at least December 27th, meaning the Avs will have to make up the four games they would have played during that time.

The NHL implemented new standards in an attempt to deal with limiting the number of positive cases, but is that a battle that cannot be won? Is the league trying to just plug holes whenever one pops up, or should they be more proactive in just shutting the league down now before it gets worse?

Kyle and Chris talk about where things stand with the Avs and the league and even dive into some conspiracy theories, because why not.
