Locked On Avalanche - Daily Podcast On The Colorado Avalanche

The Avalanche trotted out a handful of their up and coming prospects to face a Vegas Golden Knights team that was playing their second preseason game, and thus, more predominant players. But the rookies held their own and held a 3rd period lead that they gave away in a 4-3 loss. Some things to work on (0-7 on the PP) but a lot of good things to take away from a hard fought loss.

Also, today is day three of our Five Burning Questions facing the Avalanche this season. Today, ironically, I'll talk about how much the Avalanche will rely upon their prospects. Tune in and subscribe!

Like any off season, players will come and players will go. The Avalanche had a close knit group of players but even that is not enough to keep guys together. The Avalanche lost guys like Philipp Grubauer and Brandon Saad to free agency, Joonas Donskoi to an expansion draft and Ryan Graves to a trade. Are the guys they brought in good enough to replicate what guys like that offered?

I also take a look at Nazem Kadri, who made his first press conference of training camp. The hit that got him suspended was obviously brought up and Naz talked about putting it behind him. One thing for sure is he has the support of his teammates and his coaches. While I'm not so concerned about his physical play, there is one thing I am concerned about.

Finally, the Avs worked a lot on their special teams during practice Monday. One surprising addition to the top power play unit was J.T. Compher. Why that may be the Avs only choice. Tune in and subscribe!

Each day this week I will be taking a look at 5 burning questions facing the Colorado Avalanche this season. Today we start with the Avalanche and injuries that have hurt them more than any other team the past couple years.....or have they?

Injuries happen in all sports, but for the Colorado Avalanche they seem to find their players more than others the past couple years. The Avs will have injuries again this season. It's inevitable. But can they keep those injuries to a minimum and not lead the league in missed games due to injury?

I also get you updated on how things are going with the Avalanche training camp thus far. The top line looks...like the top line. Nichushkin is ready to step into a top 6 role, and what youngsters are ready to step in?

Finally, I want to hear from you on who you think the Avs rival is outside of the Wester Conference. Is it still the Red Wings or is it a team that is on the same standings level of the Avs?

There's no need to worry about either of them, but don't we as Avalanche fans just have to throw our hands up and say 'what gives?'. Coach Bednar stated that Makar had a procedure and the red jersey was for precautionary reasons, while MacKinnon needed a few stitches but was back out on the ice.

Kyle joins for another Friday episode and we dive into what the opening night roster might look like on both the offense and defensive side of the ice.

Days like this are what you wait for when you haven't had hockey for weeks. The Avalanche players returned to Denver for training camp and Coach Jared Bednar updated the press on several players and what he expects from them.

One of those players is Shane Bowers. He will be given chances, but will they be enough to make the squad?

To end the day, the Avalanche reached a new three year deal for Logan O'Connor that starts next season. Let's discuss is all! Tune in and subscribe!

The rookie tournament in Arizona is over and the Avalanche came away from it with a 2-1 record and more importantly, no injuries. How much stock should we put into this tournament, and who stood out?

We will also fast forward to the end of the season and look at all the major awards given out ad how there could be an Avalanche player at least nominated for all of the major awards. Even Joe Sakic finally??

Finally, we say good bye to another Lauren who worked with the Avs. Sideline reporter Lauren Jbara is leaving Altitude and leaving the door open for the next Lauren. Tune in and subscribe!

The Colorado Avalanche have a deep prospect pool and we will see more of them in Arizona for the Prospect Face Off later this week. To prep for that, the Avs had some of their top prospects take part in a 4 on 4 scrimmage. Cool, but why couldn't we watch it from home?

Bowen Byram had an assist and a goal in the scrimmage and he said prior to the game he felt better than he has in a long time. Will he have that final D pairing locked up when the puck drops for real?

And the Avs will officially have another new uniform for this season. We got confirmation the Avs will move from black numbers to blue, and the early results are not good. Tune in and subscribe!
