Locked On Avalanche - Daily Podcast On The Colorado Avalanche

When the Colorado Avalanche traded Ryan Graves it became clear that Joonas Donskoi was the favorite to be selected by the Seattle Kraken. Wednesday night they made that a reality. Donskoi was an important part of the Avalanche roster, and now Joe Sakic has the job to find a way to fill his role. Will it be in free agency or will he give one of the youngsters a chance to take that spot? The Avalanche also save $3.9 million in salary cap space. Does that help with the Gabriel Landeskog negotiations?

We also get to the final part of the Locked on NHL Mock Draft and yes I make my pick for the Avalanche and yes I got the guy at the top of my board. Tune in and subscribe!

The only team Gabriel Landeskog can talk to right now is the Seattle Kraken, and reports are they did indeed talk. The only problem is they have not continued those talks. The reason? Well reports are that Seattle thinks he wants too much. The same thing the Colorado Avalanche have been telling him. Does this do anything to Landeskog and how he is dealing with the Avs, or does he press on and try to find someone willing to pay his high price?

We also give Jacob MacDonald his season grade, and we dive into part 1 of 2 of the Locked on NHL Mock Draft. Enjoy!

The Colorado Avalanche and Gabriel Landeskog can't have any more communications until after the expansion draft. Is having some time apart good for both sides or will it give other teams time to craft their pitch to him knowing he will be there for the signing? Will Seattle throw a curveball at the Avs and take a player other than Donskoi or Compher? I also take a look at draft prospect Mackie Samoskevich. If he falls to the Avs, is his skill set too much to pass on? Tune in and subscribe!

Over the past couple days we started to assume Gabriel Landeskog would be left off the protected list due to the lack of a new contract with the Avalanche. It doesn't take away from the fact seeing him unprotected makes Avalanche fans a little uneasy. Joonas Donskoi was also left off the list and you would have to assume he would be the frontrunner to get selected in the expansion draft this Wednesday. Kyle Sullivan joins me to discuss the list, who was protected and who wasn't. Tune in and subscribe!

Who says nothing happens in the offseason!? A lot of Avalanche news made headlines in the past couple days and it was perfect for our weekly Greenroom discussion. Moments before the room went live, word came down that Ryan Graves was traded to the New Jersey Devils in a clear expansion draft move. Colorado pulled a move equivalent to a trade deadline move, feeling like Graves was the most likely player to head to Seattle, so he got something for him.

We also discuss the current state of the Gabe Landeskog contract talks with the Avs. Things don't seem to be going as well as we thought they would. Finally, a PE Bellemare appreciation segment where we say goodbye to the fun loving side of Belly we will all miss. Tune in and subscribe!

The offseason is off to a banging start. We started the day with the new that Erik Johnson did what we all assumed he would do and waive his no movement clause, thus leaving him unprotected for the upcoming expansion draft. Then, news came out that the Avalanche and captain Gabriel Landeskog are very far apart in a new contract. That is all we needed to hear before shouting from the rooftops about how we might now lose our beloved captain. Let's not go down that road just yet. Tune in and subscribe!

We have all seen the expansion mock drafts and for the most part they have the Kraken taking Ryan Graves off the Avalanche. That very well could happen, but if it doesn't, I for one will be happy about that. I explain why. We also hand out the season grade for Nazem Kadri. How much did his post season suspension effect how people graded? Finally we take a look at another potential prospect in Brennan Othmann. If the Avs eventually do move on from Kadri, Othmann would be a perfect filler. Tune in and subscribe!

If you have listened to or joined in on the Spotify Greenroom episodes you have no doubt heard Devin give his opinion on the many topics covered on those episodes. I felt Devin needed more time to speak his mind when it came to Avalanche issues, so he was kind enough to join todays episode to discuss his history in following the Avs as well as the many issues the Avalanche need to tackle this offseason. Yesterday we talked about a skilled, but over aggressive forward, and today we talk about a skilled but undersized forward in Isak Rosen. Rosen could fall to the Avalanche at #27, and if he does they would be hard pressed to not selected the gifted prospect. But does his size scare them away?

Philipp Grubauer had a season. One that the Avalanche and their fans knew he had in him, and the fans gave him an easy A for his season grade.

Finally, the odds for next season are starting to trickle out, and one again the Avs are the favorites to win it all next year. Why that take on a different meaning than last season when they had that title. Tune in and subscribe!
