Locked On Avalanche - Daily Podcast On The Colorado Avalanche

So far this off-season, clubs are more willing to give players term on their contracts to get that all important AAV number down as low as possible. Is that what we will see when it comes to Avalanche free agents Gabe Landeskog, Philipp Grubauer and Cale Makar?

We begin our look at some potential Avalanche draft picks with hard nosed winger Zachary L'Heureux. L'Heureux is gifted offensively, but often times goes over the line when it comes to hit and bad behavior. Do they Avs select him with the thinking their veterans can mold him early to play hard but the right way? Selecting L'Heureux will speak volumes as to where the Avalanche mindset is with their toughness on the roster. Tune in and subscribe!

We had a lot of expectations for Ryan Graves heading into the 2020-2021 season. Did he live up to those expectations? Not really, but was he a lost soul out there that forgot how to play the game? Not at all. Twitter hands Graves his grade, and it is the closest vote yet.

The Athletic did their yearly fan poll for the Avalanche and there are some very interesting results to some of the questions. I dive in.

FInally, Alex Tanguay is a beloved Avalanche player. He was around for some great battles with the Detroit Red Wings. So when he took a job as an assistant coach for the Wings, Avs fans were not happy. But really, why? Tune in and subscribe!

It was going to be a tough task for the three Colorado Avalanche players to nab an NHL award, and in the end that proved to be the case as Philipp Grubauer (Vezina), Cale Makar (Norris) and Nathan MacKinnon (Hart) all went home empty handed for NHL hardware. Makar came the closest to Adam Fox in the voting for the best defensemen, but missing 12 games proved too much to overcome despite top of the league stats.

Sam Girard had one heck of a regular season, but a couple forgettable games in the post season. Were fan thinking of the season as a whole when they voted for his season grade? Or where they thinking only of what have you done for me lately with his playoff performance?

Finally, the Edmonton Oilers signed Ryan Nugent-Hopkins to a $5.125 AAV contract over eight years. Will this have an impact on negotiations for the Avs and their free agents? Namely Gabriel Landeskog? Tune in and subscribe!

Joonas Donskoi had himself a season of exceeded expectations. That's not to say he couldn't have had even better numbers than what he put up. The Avalanche will be in a tough spot when it comes to Donskoi as he might be a player they cannot protect and the Seattle Kraken will nab. If that happens they will no doubt miss his production on the bottom six and in the power play.

Our UFA of the Day is an old Avalanche favorite! Devan Dubnyk! Would the Avs seriously consider bringing back the free agent after acquiring him at the trade deadline. It's not that crazy of an idea when you look at where the Avalanche stand with their goalies. A lot will hinge on if they can sign Grubauer.

Finally, if you follow me on Twitter you know my father passed away over the weekend. I wanted to take the time to thank the Avs community for their words and support. It was truly overwhelming.

Another Friday, another Greenroom! Avalanche fans join the show to talk about everything Avalanche from the week that was. This week, we discuss the Nazem Kadri trade rumors and are they looking to move him or not protect him? And why are we only talking about Ottawa when it comes to a deal for Naz? We also got news of the Seattle Kraken hiring their first ever head coach in Dave Hakstol. Does this seal the fate of Ryan Graves as a Colorado Avalanche? Tune in and subscribe!

The off-season is so much fun. So many deals are made on social media that never see the light of day in the real world. But one keeps popping up that many people feel have legs and that is Avs forward Nazem Kadri to the Ottawa Senators. Many people feel Kadri is now a liability in the Avs quest for a Cup, so now is the time to move him. What better way to find out the validity of these rumors than get Ross Levitan, host of Locked on Senators, on the show? Ross has his finger on the pulse of the Sens, so if this is a thing, Ross will know.

The Colorado Avalanche have done some good damage over the past several years when it comes to the NHL Draft. This year will be on the quiet side for the Avs, having only three picks in the entire draft. Unless they decide to make some moves. Could the Avs trade out of the first round in a effort to gain some of those picks back, or do they stand pat and feel good about what they have accomplished in the draft the past number of years, and not need a full crop of prospects?

We also have a season grade for JT Compher, and it is what you probably expect it to be

Finally, our free agent of the day is fan favorite Matt Calvert. Are his injuries just too much for the Avs and do they move on from him, and are those injuries concerning enough for Calvert to call it a career? Tune in and subscribe!

A lot has been said about Tyson Jost over the years, and this year he might have changed some minds in the Colorado Avalanche fan base. He's gone from 'get him out of town' to ' we might want to protect him' when it comes to the expansion draft. But as it stands now, he is a restricted free agent. So the Avalanche have questions they need to answer. Do they want to re-sign Jost? For how much? For how long? Do they want to protect him from the Kraken?

Bowen Byram might have only played 1/3 of the season, but it was enough to get more votes than any poll I've run so far for season grades. Let's take a look back at his season.

Finally, I always love finding articles from other team sites that want Avalanche players. This time it is an Edmonton Oilers page, and they propose obtaining J.T.Compher. He would definitely benefit the Oilers, but there is just one problem. What is it? Tune in and find out!

The Locker Room has gone Green! Our weekly rooms where fans join in the on the conversation is still on, it's just turned green. Today, I'm joined by Avs fans who discuss why Joe Sakic just cannot get recognized for his work as a GM and why Jared Bednar cannot get recognized for his work as a head coach. Andre Burakovsky gets his season grade from the people of Twitter. And the big question with Cale Makar. To bridge contract him or not? That is the question. Tune in and subscribe!

There are always people shouting from their keyboards to fire everyone when a team expected to make a deep run at a championship doesn't. Jared Bednar was not immune from that. Most of the time it's white noise and fair-weather fans just yelling to place blame on someone. With Bednar, I never really thought his job was in doubt, and Adrian Dater reported that Bednar's job is in fact safe. I talk about why it will be for the foreseeable future.

Out free agent of the day is Philipp Grubauer, and if one free agent that I fear will be moving on from the Avs, its Grubs. Not because the Avs don't want him back and won't make him a fair offer, but because there is a team out there desperate for a goalie and will throw crazy money at Grubs. It will then be his decision on what to do.
