Locked On Avalanche - Daily Podcast On The Colorado Avalanche

The Colorado Avalanche didn't play their best game of the playoffs. Some of that is thanks to the Golden Knights getting some rest and able to come out and play more of their style. But the Avs toughed it out, pushed the game to overtime where a Vegas penalty got the Avs on the power play where Mikko Rantanen sniped a wrist shot over Marc-Andre Fleury for the game winner sending the Avs to a 3-2 win. Colorado has not lost in these playoffs, going 6-0 so far. However, the real test begins as the series heads back to Vegas in one of the tougher buildings to play in. Tune in and subscribe!

We tried to get a crossover show in before the series started, and maybe it was a good thing we didn't. So much happened after just one game between the Vegas Golden Knights and Colorado Avalanche that if we had done a joint show prior to the series, we probably would have had to do another one anyway to discuss all the craziness.

Karlo and I talk about our respective Vezina Trophy candidates in Marc-Andre Fleury and Philipp Grubauer, where the series is headed for games 2-7 and that little Ryan Reaves / Ryan Graves situation you may have heard about. Tune in and subscribe!

If we have learned one thing from this current NHL season, it's that COVID sucks, fans in the stands make a difference and we have absolutely no idea what the Department of Player Safety will do when handing out suspensions. Maybe we shouldn't be surprised when the man heading that department was a goon himself, so he doesn't see the need to come down hard on players who are repeat offenders. The NHL proved again Monday that player safety is of no concern to them as they handed Ryan Reaves two measly games for his actions against Ryan Graves in game 1 of their series. Just hours earlier, Gary Bettman upheld the same Dept decision to give Nazem Kadri and eight game suspension for his hit. Both warranted suspension, one far exceeds the other.

Join myself and Kyle Sullivan for an episode in which we need to get things off our chest when it comes to the NHL and how they make their player safety decisions. Tune in and subscribe!

The Colorado Avalanche were off for a week. Some thought that might hurt them going up against one of the top tier teams in the league in the Vegas Golden Knights. The time off proved to be of no concern for the Avalanche as they went on to crush Vegas, 7-1, in what turned into an ugly affair. Vegas lost control of the game early, and they took out their frustration the only way they know how. With poster boy of idiocy, Ryan Reaves injuring Ryan Graves. The Avalanche looked fresh. Coupled with back-up goalie Robin Lehner taking the start, the Avs showed no mercy in skating around the Knights at will. The Avalanche are prepared for a long, hard fought series and this game very well could be an anomaly, but at least for the next couple days, the Avs have to feel good about their start to the second round. The Colorado Avalanche started the season, like every other team, with an empty arena. Whenever their 2nd round series kicks off they will play in front of 10,500 screaming Avalanche fans as Ball Arena was granted an increase in fans.

One player who might not be there with the team is Jayson Megna who was added to the leagues COVID protocol list. It is not know the severity of him being added to the list and it could be just a contact tracing issue or something more severe. Let's hope Megna is ok and the COVID issues stop with him. We have already been through enough with COVID being Avs fans.

Megna might not be there, but Sampo Ranta is up practicing with the team and we will keep an eye on if he is added to the taxi squad. Finally, the Avs signed another touted prospect in Alex Beaucage to his ELC. Tune in and subscribe!

Nathan MacKinnon is without question a top talent in the NHL. But he can't seem to crack the #1 spot which is held firmly by Edmonton's Connor McDavid. However, with McDavid and the Oilers continuing to struggle in the postseason, and with MacKinnon playing his best hockey in the postseason, does this open the door for MacKinnon to come in and take the throne as the best player in the league? If Nathan MacKinnon wins a Stanley Cup before Connor McDavid, does that change the discussion?

In the second segment, Nazem Kadri has decided to appeal his eight game suspension. With NHL commissioner Gary Bettman be the one who will decide if his suspension is reduced or not, does it matter in the long run for the Avalanche going forward? Do they Avs want to risk future playoff runs with Kadri knowing that one more hit like that and they won't have his services probably for an entire postseason, especially when he is such a big part of how they play?

Finally, the Avs are getting some much needed rest with the Minnesota Wild pushing the Vegas Golden Knights. This poses a difficult question for Avalanche fans. Root for the Wild so you can play your division rival, or root for the better team so you can say you faced and (hopefully) beat one of the leagues best?

The Colorado Avalanche did not go the route of resting anyone while up 3-0 in the series with St. Louis. Instead, they had the mindset to end the series now, rest later. That's exactly what they did. Colorado gave up the first goal, a second period goal by Blues forward Vladimir Tarasenko, but before the period was over the Avs found themselves leading 2-1 after Brandon Saad and Gabriel Landeskog found the net.

All in all, this series was dominated by the Avs. And now they wait. Will it be Vegas or will it be Minnesota. They will have to be ready for either.

Also, Nazem Kadri will put in an appeal after he received his 8 game suspension. Stay tuned for that result

As the Colorado Avalanche were playing on the ice, news off the ice came that Nazem Kadri is suspended eight games for his hit on Justin Faulk in Game 2. While the Avs will miss the what Kadri can bring, this team is deep and it showed in Game 3 where the Avs took a commanding series lead after a 5-1 win over the Blues in St. Louis. The Avs can look to close out the series on Sunday and the question is what to do for some positions. Do they give Grubauer a rest? Does Byram come in and get some playoff experience? Or do they go for the close out win and rest afterwards. All good problems to have. Tune in and subscribe!

In what is slowly taking over the internet, the Locked on Avalanche and the Locker Room app has become a phenomenon. At least us Avalanche fans think so. Every week I am joined with other Avalanche fans who join me to talk live about the Avs and today is another one of those discussions. Today we talk about the Avs and their 2-0 series lead over the Blues, what to expect heading back to St. Louis, how awesome is Nathan MacKinnon and how long should we expect to be without Kadri. Thanks to everyone who joined! Tune in and subscribe!
