Locked On Avalanche - Daily Podcast On The Colorado Avalanche

The Colorado Avalanche looked like a different team, and a lot of that is likely due to players like Mikko Rantanen, Philipp Grubauer and Joonas Donskoi returning. Colorado got back on the winning side in taking both games of the back to back against the Sharks, but the Avs are going to have to do what they have done all year in having players step up for injuries after Sam Girard and Ryan Graves go down.

The Avs are also dipping into that loaded talent pool they have in calling up Alex Newhook who will join the teams taxi squad. What does this all mean as well as a look at this weeks games. Tune in and subscribe!

The Avalanche have been here before. Down key players. But facing a team like Vegas you need all hands on deck, and not having guys like Mikko Rantanen and Joonas Donskoi around clearly hurt the Avs, who played better, but not to the level of beating a healthy team like Vegas. However, help could be on the way as the Avs hopefully get those names back this weekend. Tune in and subscribe!

The Avalanche and injuries go together like peanut butter and jelly. We found out a lot about their recent struggles with injured players from Coach Bednar yesterday and it was good and bad. Mikko Rantanen, Philipp Grubauer and Joonas Donskoi are all expected back on Friday. However, both Bowen Byram and Logan O'Connor had set backs in their return and both are expected to continue to miss time. O'Connor possible much longer. Thus is the life of the Avalanche.

Gabriel Landeskog is an unrestricted free agent after this season, and it is well known he doesn't want to play anywhere else but for the Avs. Could the Avalanche use this to not protect their captain in an effort to protect another player knowing the Kraken wouldn't likely take a free agent that would be difficult for them to sign?

The Avs also continue to sign their future as 2020 1st round pick, Justin Barron, signed his ELC. Tune in and subscribe!

The Colorado Avalanche haven't lost back to back games often this season, but if they play the way they have the past couple of games they will be fighting to win games. The Avalanche did not look good for the second game in a row, and the players out with injury could have definitely helped in this one, as the St. Louis defense gave the Avs no room to make any plays in a 4-1 loss. Colorado can't sit around and sulk as they have a date with the top seed Vegas on Wednesday, who will be well rested and ready for battle.

If you told me three minutes into the game the Colorado Avalanche would have a 2-0 lead I would have felt pretty comfortable with how the game would have continued. That did not happen as the Avalanche got away from what makes them a successful team as they lost to St. Louis 5-3. Bad penalties, costly turnovers and not finishing on open looks costs the Avs two points. Yet, there are always good things to take away from any loss. What exactly can be taken away from this game? The Colorado Avalanche had their season paused for a second time this past week, and last night was their first game back in action. Not only did the Avalanche defeat a desperate Blues team 4-2, they clinched a playoff spot in doing so. What better way to celebrate this type of win than with Avs fans in our weekly Locker Room discussion. Tune in and enjoy!

It was reported Mikko Rantanen was added to the COVID protocol list due to a positive screen, that turns out to not be the case as Rantanen was added due to contact tracing. He still, however, will not travel with the team for the three game series against St. Louis. Bowen Byram is off the protocol list, but needs to build some strength back up and therefore will not be joining the Avs either on the road trip.

The NHL released an updated schedule for the Avs to make up for the games lost this past week. I take a look at how the season will end for the Avs.

Finally, Patrik Nemeth talks about his return to the Avs

The Colorado Avalanche appeared to be headed in the right direction of getting back on the ice as scheduled, this Thursday against St. Louis. Then word broke that Mikko Rantanen was added to the list, after four days of zero Avs added. So far, the return to play date of Thursday is still a go, but could change in an instant if the Avs find any other players with a positive test. What does this mean for the Avs and who is going to step up and fill the very big role Rantanen plays?

My how times have changed. In the beginning of the season we had certain guys who we assumed the Avalanche would protect when it came to the expansion draft. After a few short months a lot has changed and we are looking at a few different names on the list of protected players. Who are the players the Avs will protect and who are the top five players who could be available to the Kraken to add to their new roster? Tune in and subscribe!

A lot was supposed to happen this past weekend. None of it did. Jared Bednar was supposed to be the holder of the most games coached in franchise history. The Avalanche were supposed to (possibly) clinch a playoff spot. But due to a third player testing positive for COVID, the NHL shut the Avs season down for the second time. If all goes well (and so far it is) the Avalanche will resume play on 4/22. So let's set our sights on that.
