The NHL and NHLPA have finalized what we have assumed for a couple weeks now., the season will begin on Jan 13th and will be a 56 game season. The Minnesota Wild were expected to be part of a different division, but they are on their way to the west with the Avs. What does the addition of the Wild mean for the rest of the division? Every Avalanche fan knows how important Pierre Lacroix was to those early years when the team moved from Quebec to Colorado. Lacroix knew how important it was to put a winning team on the ice ASAP. If there was a trade involving a big name, chances are Lacroix was somehow in the mix. He knew how to do his job and he knew how to do it well. When people think of the Colorado Avalanche they understandably think of names like Roy, Forsberg or MacKinnon. People who follow the Avalanche day in and day out would also put Pierre Lacroix on that list. He was as responsible for winning those Stanley Cups as the players he put on the ice.

Pierre Lacroix died yesterday. His service to this team will forever be apart of this franchise.

Patrick Roy was hired by the Avalanche and at the end of his first game let it be known this would be a different era. But it wasn't his rough attitude that caught everyone's attention. It was the opposite. Roy was nothing short of a saint behind the bench, but it was his risky and revolutionary plan to pull a goalie with minutes left that left people on the edge of their seats.
