Locked On Bruins - Daily Podcast On The Boston Bruins

One of the biggest priorities for the Boston Bruins remains signing David Pastrnak to a contract extension. After the NHL Draft, Don Sweeney said he wants the winger to be a lifelong Bruin, and they will continue discussions towards that end this week.

Host Ian McLaren discusses what that might cost, and you can expect Pastrnak to be among the NHL's highest paid players.

Plus, updates on Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci, who needs to be qualified before the end of the work day, and a look ahead at development camp and free agency.

The Botson Bruins made six picks in the 2022 NHL Draft, adding three centers, two defensemen, and a goaltender to their prospects pool.

Host ian McLaren discusses the 2nd round selection of Matt Poitras over some other center options. Poitras might not be the flashiest, but he's definitely a Bruins-type player with loads of upside.

Plus, a quick look at Cole Spicer, Dans Locmelis, Frederic Brunet, Reid Dyck, and Jackson Edward.

2022 selections proved the Bruint reluctant to draft from the Canadian junior ranks.

Boston Bruins forward Jake DeBrusk has reportedly rescinded a trade request that was made public last November.

It's unfair to say there's a straight line to be drawn between Bruce Cassidy being replaced and DeBrusk wanting to stay put, as the forward had a very successful second half of the season after being bumped to the first line.

But DeBrusk does indeed feel more comfortable playing out his 2-year deal, although it should be noted there's no trade protection.

Does this change Don Sweeney's offseason plans heading into this week's NHL Draft?

It's the conclusion of a look back at Don Sweeney's draft history, and Locked on Boston Bruins host Ian McLaren argues 2021 might be the GM's best haul.

Sweeney bucked recent draft trends by selecting the best available players with the first couple picks, added some much needed center depth, and dipped his toes back in the Canadian Hockey League for the first time in a few years.

It might be a couple years before Fabian Lysell and Brett Harrison play in Boston, but it was a good start to restocking the prospect pipeline.

Plus, thoughts on Elliotte Friedman's thoughts on where the Bruins priorities lie heading into the 2022 draft, namely re-signing David Pastrnak.

The Boston Bruins are close to hiring Jim Montgomery as their new head coach, according to multiple sources.

Montgomery most recently served as an assistant for the St. Louis Blues, reinvigorating their offensive attack.

He began his NHL coaching career with the Dallas Stars, but was let go due to unprofessional conduct. Montgomery is in recovery and the Bruins no doubt did their due diligence.

Hiring a coach was a huge priority for the Bruins, whose attention now turns to the NHL Draft, free agency, and new contracts for Patrice Bergeron and David Pastrnak.

Locked on Boston Bruins host Ian McLaren continues a look back at Don Sweeney's draft history by focusing on 2018, 2019, and 2020.

The Bruins lcked forst-round picks in 2 of those drafts, and might only see 2 players crack the NHL lineup from these 3 years - John Beecher and Mason Lohrei. Anything else would be a bonus.

Plus, we may get some clarity on the head coaching situation as early as today.

Boston Bruins President Cam Neely announced the team has signed General Manager Don Sweeney to a multi-year contract extension.

Many fans are asking why, and Bruins CEO Charlie Jacobs explained it by saying "Under (Don's) management, the Boston Bruins have been one of the winningest franchises in the league and a perennial playoff contender year in and year out."

Host Ian McLaren discusses the decision to stick with Sweeney, why fans are mad about it, and why this summer will be huge in terms of turning public sentiment.

Bottom line: Fans don't want a team that's content getting into the playoffs.
