Locked On Bruins - Daily Podcast On The Boston Bruins

The Boston Bruins claimed goaltender Jiri Patera off waivers on Wednesday, and Locked on Boston Bruins host Ian McLaren begins today's episode by discussing why and what it means for the depth chart at this position.

Plus, a new Amazon docuseries offers insight into Jeremy Swayman's mindset during the Stanley Cup Playoffs, where he wanted to check off an excellent performance but also up his asking price.

Finally, Fabian Lysell is back up for tonight's preseason game in Quebec City. Is it too late to grab a roster spot?

Locked on Boston Bruins host Ian McLaren breaks down the storylines, stats and signals from a preseason win over the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday, and discusses the very latest on the Jeremy Swayman contract stalemate.

Brandon Bussi put in a decent performance as the projected opening night backup, while captain Brad Marchand was forced to leave early due to illness. Justin Brazeau and Tyler Johnson both scored, though, and continue to warrant inclusion in the lineup on a regular basis.

The Bruins and Swayman are in a cooling off period but are still reportedly $1M apart in negotiations. Can the relationship be repaired or will the goalie want a fresh start elsewhere.

"Well, I don't want to get into the weeds with what (Jeremy Swayman's) ask is, but I know that I have 64 million reasons why I'd be playing right now.”

With that, Boston Bruins team president Cam Neely put the team's offer on the table, turning the tables on the narrative that they're not doing enough to sign their young star goaltender.

Swayman's agent, however, denies the $64M amount, and the Bruins' preseason press conference has suddenly become the talk of the National Hockey League.

Locked on Boston Bruins host Ian McLaren breaks down Neely's comments and the response, and asks whether a deal can still be reached or if the Bruins have alienated Swayman to the point of a trade request.

Plus, what's the plan for Fabian Lysell? And will Jim Montgomery soon be extended?

What we do know is Joonas Korpisalo will be the opening night starter.

After years of dominating the NHL’s Atlantic Division, is this finally the year one of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Boston Bruin, Florida Panthers or Tampa Bay Lightning fall out of the playoff picture? Or will their long run owning the division continue? On this special Locked On NHL Season Preview Round Table, Ian McLaren (Locked On Bruins), Josh Sperber (Locked On Lighting), David Morassutti (Locked On Leafs) and Armando Velez (Locked On Panthers) team up to preview the 2024-25 NHL season from the prospective of the Atlantic Division’s contenders. Can the Panthers repeat as Stanley Cup Champions? How will the looming contract situation for Mitch Marner affect the Leafs as they head into a crucial season where going on a deep playoff run is non-negotiable? Can the Lightning adapt to fill in for the loss of franchise icon Steven Stamkos in free agency? And will the Boston Bruins be able to capture their former glory even with star goaltender Jeremy Swayman in contract limbo? All that, plus talk on the major offseason additions for each team, breakout candidates, and which teams in the Atlantic’s basement are most likely to supplant one of these long-time playoff mainstays – and who will fall out at their expense?

Following a lackluster preseason debut, Fabian Lysell impressed in a win over the Washington Capitals, specifically by drawing a penalty and scoring on the ensuing power play with a high level wrist shot.

Locked on Boston Bruins host Ian McLaren breaks down the victory by looking at the key storylines, stats, and signals.

Storylines: Lysell's improvements and Joonas Korpisalo's successful Bruins debut.

Stats: Justin Brazeau, Georgii Merkulov, Tyler Johnson appear on scoresheet, while Matt Poitras dominates in faceoff circle.

Signals: There's a battle intensifying up front, where several contenders are vying for 2nd and 3rd line roles instead of AHL assignments or press box seats for the season opener.

The Boston Bruins will host the Washington Capitals in preseason action on Tuesday.

Locked on Bruins host Ian McLaren pinpoints a few players to keep an eye on, including the so far underwhelming Fabian Lysell and Georgii Merkulov as well as an always rising to the challenge Matt Poitras.

Next, one prominent hockey insider suggests panic over the Jeremy Swayman contract stalemate is rising.

Finally, David Pastrnak and Swayman will be featured in a new Amazon doc, which should prove to be a fascinating look back at last year's playoff push.

Boston Bruins hockey is back ... sort of!

A concept of a Bruins roster lost 3-2 to the New York Rangers on Sunday. A key storyline was the deployment of Georgii Merkulov and Fabian Lysell, both of whom underwhelmed in their bids to make the opening night roster.

Locked on Boston Bruins host Ian McLaren also digs into the key stats, including saves made and goals allowed by Brandon Bussi and faceoffs won by John Beecher.

What signals can we glean? Matthew Poitras was not in the lineup, so that's a great sign for his return to Boston over an assignment in Providence.

Boston Bruins star goaltender Jeremy Swayman is not at training camp, but it's full steam ahead for the rest of the roster hopefuls.

The Bruins did sign Kasimir Kaskisuo to a PTO, but all eyes are on Joonas Korpisalo and Brandon Bussi, as well as goalie coach Bob Essensa.

The big storylines are also up front, where a trio of Elias Lindholm, David Pastrnak, and Pavel Zacha looks very good.

Youngsters Matthew Poitras and Fabian Lysell are also looking to prove they're NHL ready.

All this and more on a Day 2 recap of Boston Bruins training camp.
