Locked On Bruins - Daily Podcast On The Boston Bruins

Any  Bruins fan penciling in a loss on Wednesday can be forgiven. The Bruins were facing a winless Avalanche club in Denver with Joonas Korpisalo in net. Still, despite giving up three power play goals, Boston came out on top thanks to continued offense from the 4th line, a couple big power play goals of their own, and yes, timely saves from Korpisalo.

Locked on Boston Bruins host Ian McLaren breaks down the key storylines, stats, and signals from an important 5-3 road win over the Colorado Avalanche.

The Bruins still need to figure out the middle 6 (as discussed on yesterday's podcast), but you take this win and run to Utah any day of the week.

Plus, the Bruins unveiled a special jersey for the Centennial Game on Dec. 1 - are they a preview of an upcoming permanent look?

The Boston Bruins have a good problem in that their 4th line has been posting crazy offensive numbers so far this season. Unfortunately, their middle 6 has been very unproductive, and we can't expect Mark Kastelic, Johnny Beecher, and Cole Koepke to keep producing at this clip.

Locked on Boston Bruins host Ian McLaren discusses some options for the middle 6, including swapping Charlie Coyle and Matthew Poitras, recalling Fabian Lysell,  or signing Tyler Johnson already.

Plus, a preview of tonight's game against a Colorado Avalanche team that's plain stunk to start the season but could be ripe for getting things on track against our Bruins.

Locked on Boston Bruins host Ian McLaren brings you all the storylines, stats, and signals you need to know from a 4-3 loss to the Florida Panthers on Monday.

As much as they may deny it, the Bruins clearly struggle mentally when playing the Panthers, as evidenced by the undisciplined reaction to AJ Greer hitting David Pastrnak in the first period.

This was a game in which the Bruins should have made more of a statement on the scoreboard, seeing as Florida was without Aleksander Barkov and Matthew Tkachuk. It was fairly even 5v5, but special teams let the Bruins down, and a lack of scoring from the middle two lines is becoming a problem. You simply can't rely on Johnny Beecher, Cole Koepke, and Mark Kastelic to carry the offense. Seriously, that's what's happening.

Up next: a 3 game Western Conference road trip, where the Bruins will have a chance to build on a 2-2 start if they can figure out the offense and muster more traction on the power play.

Matt Poitras made his season debut for the  Boston Bruins, and wowed in what was his first game since January.

Locked on Boston Bruins host Ian McLaren breaks down the key storylines, stats, and signals from a 2-1 overtime win over the Los Angeles kings on Saturday, where Poitras continued to look like the second coming of David Krejci.

Not only did the youngster help set up the game winner from David Pastrnak (and assisted by Mason Lohrei), but Poitras excelled at both ends of the ice and drew praise from head coach Jim Montgomery.

Next, a look at some key stats, like possession dominance from the bottom 6, Elias Lindholm's offensive outburst to start the season, and 2 points combined on the second line.

Jeremy Swayman was excellent and will likely get the start against the Florida Panthers on Monday, and team without Aleksander Barkov and maybe also Matthew Tkachuk.

Jeremy Swayman made his season debut and the new-look 4th line is clicking.

Locked on Boston Bruins host Ian McLaren breaks down the storyline, stats, and signals from a 6-4 win over the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday.

Storylines include Swayman's appreciation of Bruins fans, offensive outbursts from Cole Koepke and Mark Kastelic, and some lingering defensive issues that made the game closer than it should have been.

As for stats, here's one: newcomer Elias Lindholm leads the team with 4 points in 2 games.

The Bruins dominated periods 1 and 2, but Montreal was all over them in the 3rd. That's not something that can keep happening against upcoming opponents like Los Angeles, Florida, Colorado, Utah, and Nashville.

Yes, the Boston Bruins didn't look great in their season opening loss to the Florida Panthers, and optimism could be restored with a definitive win over the rival Montreal Canadiens in tonight's home opener.

Still, Locked on Boston Bruins host Ian McLaren has some lingering questions about the makeup of the roster and they style they play. Can they continue to succeed by prioritizing high danger shots over shot volume? Can the goaltending maintain near league-leading numbers with Jeremy Swayman and Joonas Korpisalo? Who's going to score beyond David Pastrnak, and can the supporting past be counted on to extend career highs set last year?

Plus, a preview of tonight's game vs. the Habs, a team that shut out the Toronto Maple Leafs last night.

Faced with an opportunity to make a statement against the Stanley Cup champions, the Boston Bruins fell flat in a season opening 6-4 loss to the Florida Panthers.

Locked on Bruins host Ian McLaren breaks down the key storylines, stats and signals from the loss, including the poor play of Joonas Korpisalo, the Bruins continuing their trend of getting out shot and out chanced, and the need for more skill over size in the lineup.

Ultimately, it's just 1 of 82, but the Bruins can't get caught up playing physically at the expense of playing responsibly.

Meanwhile, Linus Ullmark signed a 4-year extension with the Ottawa Senators worth $8.25M per season. Sound familiar?

The opening night roster is set, and the Boston Bruins are out to once again prove everyone who thinks this team is in decline wrong.

Locked on Boston Bruins host Ian McLaren discusses how Cole Koepke and Riley Tufte were surprise additions over Matt Poitras (injury) and Tyler Johnson (unsigned), and whether the team defense is strong enough to make up for an apparent lack of scoring.

Boston's over / under is set at 97.5 - where will they land?

Jeremy Swayman could very well be for tonight's season opener against the Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers, which would certainly give the club a boost.

On Sunday, the Boston Bruins signed goaltender Jeremy Swayman to an 8-year contract extension through the 2031-32 season with an annual NHL cap hit of $8.25 million.

The $66M deal comes less than a week after team president Cam Neely disclosed to the media a $64M deal was on the table, and Swayman's agent said they needed a few days to regroup after the breach in confidence and a note saying his client had received no such offer.

Locked on Boston Bruins host Ian McLaren breaks down how cooler heads prevailed, and the Bruins locked up their franchise goalie for his prime years at what SHOULD prove to be a very reasonable cap hit as his ceiling - and the NHL's salary ceiling - continues to rise.

8 years is risky, but they have their man in net, and that's all that matters right now.

Plus, Brandon Bussi and Jiri Patera were put on waivers, both of whom are real candidates to be scooped.

The Boston Bruins didn't give hockey fans in Quebec City much to cheer about on Thursday other than an appearance from hometown hero Patrice Bergeron.

The Bruins were outshot by the Los Angeles Kings, and Quinton Byfield dropped a hat trick on Joonas Korpisalo.

Locked on Boston Bruins argues they simply can't count on consistent, above average goaltending from Korpisalo, which leads into the latest on Jeremy Swayman.

Other storylines include Bergeron being interested in being part of a Quebec City National Hockey League franchise.
