Shaka Smart and the Marquette Golden Eagles blasted his former team, the Texas Longhorns, on Wednesday evening behind a monster night from point guard Tyler Kolek. Marquette looks like a Final 4 team when they are firing on all cylinders, but can they stay consistent? And is Texas in trouble, or will things turn around when Dylan Disu returns? Efton Reid had his waiver approved and immediately posted a double-double off the bench for Wake Forest in their win over Rutgers - although Rutgers fans have plenty to be excited about with the commitment of 2024 second ranked prospect Dylan Harper, who joins Ace Bailey to create what is far and away the greatest recruiting class in Scarlet Knights history. Kansas hosted UConn on Friday night in an epic top-5 showdown with the Jayhawks winning 69-65. This wasn’t about either team playing up or down, just two of the best teams in college basketball playing high level basketball on a Friday night in Lawrence, Kansas – great stuff. In addition to UConn, six other AP-ranked teams lost this weekend, including the nation’s no. 1 team, the Purdue Boilermakers, in overtime at Northwestern. Duke lost for the second time this week (at Arkansas, at Georgia Tech) while Kentucky lost at home to UNC-Wilmington in the same week in which they blitzed Miami at home. The six-pack includes Yale losing a game in which they lost in regulation after being up by five with three seconds to go.

Wednesday night was a GREAT night of basketball. Duke stormed back to almost knock off Arkansas in Fayetteville, by Trevon Brazile and Khalif Battle were too much and the Bud Walton arena atmosphere was BONKERS. In the other marquee ACC/SEC Challenge game of Tuesday night, North Carolina took care of business at home against Tennessee thanks to a 61-point first half outburst and 20-plus-point performances from RJ Davis, Armando Bacot, and Harrison Ingram. On the Tennessee side, Dalton Knecht scored a career high 37 points.

The ACC / SEC Challenge ended in a 7-7 tie.

Colorado St. picked up a big win over Colorado. Louisville players apparently need their tights in order to play.

It’s time for the inaugural ACC / SEC Challenge following the demise of the ACC / Big Ten Challenge thanks to the Big Ten’s new media deal not including ESPN. The Florida Atlantic Owls and Villanova Wildcats each took bad losses to Bryant and Penn, respectively, before bouncing back and winning their respective MTEs: The ESPN Events Classic and of course the Battle 4 Atlantis.
