It's time for another 2023 positional review as we dive in on Andrés Giménez

2023 season at second base. We discuss his regression offensively, what happened, and why we think he could be better in 2024 and going forward, as well as the long-term contract he signed that keeps him in Cleveland through age 30. We also talk about the seasons of Tyler Freeman and Jose Tena, who had a memorable MLB debut at second base. And we quickly touch on Juan Brito's breakout 2023 season and if he'll be good enough to help Cleveland push Gimenez to shortstop and part ways with Gabriel Arias and/or Brayan Rocchio.

The Guardians finally filled out most of their coaching staff, minus a replay coordinator for now. But they promoted Beachwood, Ohio native Brad Goldberg to bullpen coach from Double-A Akron, and long-time Cleveland minor league manager Rouglas Odor to the infield/third base coach role. We discuss the roles filled on the coaching staff, the Twins losing Sonny Gray, and the pitching staff taking another hit, as well as a hypothetical bad contract trade with the Twins on today's show.

The Guardians are still finalizing their coaching staff around manager Stephen Vogt. We have one possibly new, old name that will have a role on the team in Kai Corra, formerly in the Cleveland minor league system and most recently with the Giants. We talk about what role or roles he might fill here and how else the coaching staff may get filled out. The Twins lost a solid starting pitcher in Kenta Maeda leaving for the Tigers. Are the Tigers more of a threat in 2024 and how bad will the AL Central

It's a Thanksgiving bonus episode of everything we didn't fit into our review of the Guardians first base situation in 2023 and looking ahead to the future. More on Kyle Manzardo's Rookie of the Year chances in 2024, where David Fry fits into the position and roster, if Ralphy Velazquez may end up an option at first base sooner than later, and what Jhonkensy Noel and other prospect's future at first base looks like.

It's time for another positional review of the Guardians 2023 season. On this episode, we look back at the ill-fated Josh Bell deal that really was a good idea in theory that didn't work out. Of course, we talk about Josh Naylor's excellent season despite missing a month of the season. Can Naylor stay healthy in 2024, and will Cleveland entertain a contract extension for their emotional leader? And of course, we have to talk some about the future of the position in Kyle Manzardo and when he could arrive.

Reynaldo Lopez got a 3 year/$30M deal from Atlanta, a contract that suggests the Guardians were never going to be able to keep the reliever in Cleveland. We talk about his departure, and free agency in general. We look into players who are now Rule 5 eligible after Cleveland didn't protect them. And we have a new metric that proves just how bad the Guardians pitchers really struggled in 2023 at holding base runners.

The deadline to tender a contract to arbitration-eligible players came and went over the weekend with the Guardians making a somewhat surprising swap with the Padres to get reliever Scott Barlow in exchange for Enyel De Los Santos. How and why did the Guardians pull that move off and does that make their bullpen better in 2024? We break that move down, as well as the return for Cal Quantrill to the Rockies, taking back minor league catcher Kody Huff. We also dive into the contract given to Ramon Laureano to avoid arbitration and come back for 2024.

Shohei Ohtani took home the 2023 AL MVP award unanimously. Jose Ramirez finished in 10th place. We take a look on if Jose still has the time and opportunity to chase down an MVP award for himself and the elusive award Cleveland baseball hasn't seen since 1953. We also got the news that the Oakland Athletics are moving to Las Vegas and share why that should feel a little personal to Cleveland and is a sad state for baseball in 2023. We dig deeper into the remainder of starting pitching depth and we quickly throw out a name of an old friend who might have a possibility of returning to Cleveland's coaching staff.

Now that the Guardians have designated Cal Quantrill for assignment in order to reallocate his potential salary elsewhere on the roster, what comes next for the club? Is the decision to not spend $6 million on Quantrill going to lead to other cuts to the roster and payroll? How did this move impact the Guardians roster flexibility this offseason, specifically with Shane Bieber? We got an update from Chris Antonetti on Daniel Espino's injury recovery. And we discuss the latest updates on the Guardians and MLB's TV contract situation with Bally Sports and Diamond Sports Group and how it all impacted what happened on 40 man decision day.
