The search for a new general manager is going to start heating up for the Jets soon. The team reportedly has interviews set up with Champ Kelly from the Bears front office and Scott Fitterer from the Seahawks front office. Interviews with other candidates will likely be set up soon.
On a podcast episode last week we discussed some of the questions general manager candidates will likely need the Jets to answer to convince them to take the job. Today we look at the questions the candidates themselves will need to answer to show they have what it takes to run the Jets. Certain things will need to happen for the Jets to build a championship team, and it will be up to the new general manager to make them happen.

I hope everybody had a good weekend.
We are back today with another top five offseason Tuesday podcast. Today we are taking a look at the young talent on the roster.
The NFL is a league where it is essential to draft and develop young talent. Super Bowl teams are built on homegrown impact players. The Jets' recent lack of success goes back to the team's poor drafting.
There is a bit of light on the horizon. Years of being near the bottom of the league has provided the team with a number of top ten picks who can form the foundation of a turnaround. Today we are looking at the top five players on the Jets on rookie contracts who will help the team rise over the next few years.
Rookie contracts are a bit tricky to judge. Leonard Williams is entering his fifth year and still technically on his rookie deal, while Robby Anderson, entering his fourth year, is not and is thus ineligible for the list.
On today's show we go through the top five still on a rookie deal.

The Jets are looking for a new general manager. So far there have been few developments. Candidates have reportedly not even been contacted yet, and interviews have yet to begin. Presumably this will change soon, and the Jets will get the process rolling.
On today's podcast we take a look at the job and questions the team might have to answer from some potential applicants. This job has one major plus, the presence of Sam Darnold. For some applicants already having the franchise quarterback in place might be the most important element of the job.
There still are numerous questions surrounding the job the Jets will likely have to answer in the interview process. The team will have to discuss its ownership situation, expectations, and chain of command.

It has been a wild, chaotic week for the New York Jets franchise. To mark the occasion today we have a podcast mailbag. Thanks to everybody who submitted questions. Due to the extraordinary nature of the past week, I extended the show to try to fit in as many as possible. Please resubmit for future shows if your question today went unanswered.
Today we look at the impact of waiting until May to fire Mike Maccagnan, the level of reported dysfunction between Maccagnan and Adam Gase, which Jets reporters are worth your time, the best and worst owners in the NFL, Jamal Adams' role in the defense, how difficult learning a new offensive system is for a quarterback, the impact of scouts, whether the Jets should bring back Morris Claiborne, and more.

These days I see plenty of arguments about the state of the Jets under our new Adam Gase overlord, and I find my views don't fit neatly into either side of the debate.
'
There are issues pertaining to the firing of Mike Maccagnan that I believe transcend the general manager's poor job performance. These are issues about the way Chris Johnson has operated that make me concerned about his approach to management for the future.
Despite my concerns about management's approach, I do not believe Maccagnan deserved to stay. So you will not see me agitated over the mere fact Maccagnan is gone. If you want vitriol over the fact the Jets have tinkered with the back end of their roster by adding a punter and dropping an unproductive fifth round tight end, you'll have to go elsewhere. I can refer you to a writer who is outraged over all of these things and the fact Peter Schrager might be part of preseason telecasts.
It's one thing to point out the issues, but we have a football team to fix. On today's podcast I offer some advice to Chris Johnson going forward about how he should function and develop his leadership style.

The Mike Maccagnan era came to its conclusion last week after five offseasons and four seasons. The general manager's tenure brought few wins to the Jets.
In our latest Tuesday ranking podcast we take a look back to the Maccagnan era to rank the top five best and worst moves. This was a bit of a challenging endeavor since I found one of the lists had a ton of candidates while another had very few selections from which to choose.
Ultimately I settled on five from each group so today you can sit back and listen to the recap of a generally unsuccessful era that did have at least one potentially positive franchise-altering move.

We are nearing the one week mark since the Jets fired general manager Mike Maccagnan. There has been a striking lack of chatter about the search. Some reports have suggested the Jets will take their time. Others have hinted they are zeroing in on an executive from Philadelphia. Others have hinted Peyton Manning could emerge as a candidate. Others have suggested the team still has not gotten permission to speak with anybody yet. So far there has been little in the way of actual news on the search.
On today's podcast I offer five candidates I think the Jets should consider for these jobs. I am not saying these are the only five viable options. I am also not suggesting any would be a lock for success, but these are the candidates I would examine to start the search. I will explain my views on the show.
My five candidates are Joe Douglas, the aforementioned Philadelphia executive, Eliot Wolf of Cleveland's front office, free agent Scot McCloughan, Duke Tobin of Cincinnati's front office, and Will McClay of Dallas' front office.

Since the time of the last podcast, new empowered head coach/interim general manager Adam Gase got to work. The Jets traded former first round pick Darron Lee on Wednesday evening to Kansas City for a sixth round pick, ending a disappointing and tumultuous Jets career. On today's podcast I discuss why the trade made sense, and the Jets got the best out of a bad situation.
After discussing Lee, Tony Pauline stops by to talk about what has been going on within the Jets organization over the last few months. Pauline was the first the report that Mike Maccagnan's job was in grave danger due to internal strife with Adam Gase. We discuss some of the tipping points that got us here, how the Jets' reputation is in the NFL, and where things will go from here.

If you never change your mind on anything, I don't think you are actually thinking. You should always be testing and challenging your views. Nobody is ever right 100% of the time. I cannot tell you how many times in football or life in general I have come to realize I was wrong about something and changed my philosophy as a result.
That is the topic of today's podcast. I will tell you some of the things I have changed my mind about in the NFL. I present this in an increment of three. Today's show will focus on my changed views about the true value and importance of Draft picks, the silliness of evaluating whether a prospect is a good fit for a "pro system," and the danger of overpaying for a middle of the pack quarterback's second contract.
