On today's podcast we start a new themed show. Now that we are deep into the offseason, we will try to provide a top five list on Tuesdays going forward. There might be weeks where something else happens on Tuesday, but most weeks will feature a Top Five Tuesday.
Today we kick things off with the top five reasons I have to be optimistic about the Jets in 2019. The great thing about the offseason is everybody is tied for first place and can dream of their team having a big year. If the Jets are going to have a big year, we will discuss the reasons why on today's show.
The reasons I have are something about the schedule, the interior of the defensive line, the development of a new offensive weapon, a new star, and the quarterback.

The offseason continues for the Jets. Late last week the team began an orientation for the rookies. Rather than the typical on field instruction most teams hold for their Draft picks, undrafted free agents, and assorted young players the team held a classroom session. The veteran players continue to take part in the team's offseason program.
Meanwhile, the fans are waiting for the season. They dream of every player reaching his ceiling. On a podcast episode last week we discussed some of the big questions key players on the offense will have to answer for the Jets. Today we turn our attention to the defense. If players from that side of the ball will hit their ceilings in 2019, what will they need to do?

Thank you to everybody who sent in mailbag questions this week. We got enough questions to do a bonus podcast mailbag. Unfortunately I still was unable to get to all of the questions. If your question was unanswered it is not because I hate you. Please feel free to resubmit it next week.
On this mailbag episode we discuss expectations for Quinnen Williams, where Jachai Polite will line up, whether the team should bring back Bilal Powell now that the back has been medically cleared to continue his career, whether the Jets should bring in a veteran wide receiver, and why people are focused on the team's five decade Super Bowl drought.

It is Thursday, which means it is podcast mailbag day. Thanks to everybody who sent in questions for this week's show. There wouldn't be a mailbag show without mailbag questions, and it was a big response this week. We had so many that I'm thinking of doing a second mailbag on Friday just to try and get to all of them.
Today we look at the floor and ceiling of Frankie Luvu, what options remain at the center position, whether Muhammad Wilkerson is worth bringing back on a cheap deal, whether high-risk high-reward is the best strategy in the Draft, whether the Jets should explore a trade of Darron Lee for Pittsburgh's Artie Burns, whether Lee could have a productive role on the team this season, and whether the team should push to bring back Morris Claiborne.

We continue to look forward to the 2019 season. At this time of the year, every fan dreams of the boom scenario for every player on their favorite team. There is a wide range of possible outcomes. Every player could have a great season, an average season, or a poor season. In the spring we can hope for the best.
Today's podcast is focused on the best case scenario for the key players on the offense. Namely I have one question for each key player on the offense that will determine whether they hit a boom scenario for their 2019 season. To be at their best, players on the Jets roster will need to answer these questions in the best way possible.

With the Draft over and rosters mostly set, we can look forward to the 2019 NFL season. The Jets have made a number of big changes through free agency and the NFL Draft. Most of the important positions on this roster are already settled. While last year's training camp featured a wide open battle for the most important role, starting quarterback, this year's camp battles will be much lower profile. There still are unsettled roles on the roster that will be sorted out.
On today's podcast we look ahead to these training camp battles and explore which jobs are up for grabs. The center position will likely be one of them, even though the options are less than inspiring. There also figures to be some competition at backup quarterback and a battle for the second tight end spot. On the defensive side of the ball, playing time at the premium positions of cornerback and edge rusher is up for grabs. There are a lot of players who could be in the mix for playing time.

We are well past the point on the calendar when NFL teams can reasonably expect to find impact free agents. The time for signing them was months ago. After that point, teams turned to the NFL Draft. With that now in the rear view mirror, rosters are largely set for the 2019 season.
In some isolated cases there still are some decent free agents available. Few if any of these players will move the needle for a team. Many of them would be risky signings due to injury or other factors. If they were not risky, they would not be available this deep into the spring. But they will also be cheap. They also would not be available this deep into the spring if there was great demand.
On today's podcast we look at some of the top free agents still available in the NFL to see how many would make good fits for the Jets.

The season of offseason moves isn't completely over. The Jets gave us a reminder of that yesterday when they claimed quarterback Luke Falk off waivers from the Dolphins. Falk was Adam Gase's developmental quarterback last year in Miami. Now he moves to New York to reconnect with Gase.
This is a pretty minor move, though. There will not be many big names changing teams at this point. This is a time to take stock of what the Jets have done. On an earlier podcast from this week we took a look at the state of the roster on offense going position by position. Today's podcast closes out the week by looking at the defense. Which positions are strong? Which positions are weak? How is the depth across the board? We will examine all of this.

It is difficult to believe, but we are already one week past the start of the NFL Draft. The Jets added Quinnen Williams to their team last Thursday night in Nashville. To celebrate this occasion, today we have a podcast mailbag. Thank you once again to everybody who submitted mailbag questions. The show would not work without you. Feel free to resend your questions next week if they were not answered on today's show.
Today we look at whether the Minnesota Vikings could be a potential trade partner with the Jets in their search for a starting cornerback, whether the acquisition of Kelechi Oseleme and the hiring of a new offensive line coach could mold Jonotthan Harrison into a quality starting center, who the best pick would have been if the Jets still had their second round pick, which teams had the best Draft classes, and how Quinnen Williams will be deployed on defense..

With the NFL Draft over, we now know what the Jets' roster will look like in 2019. There were still be some under the radar signings to fill out the preseason roster. There might even be a late trade or signing of a surprise cut from another team. But we are past the point where the team can reasonably expect to bring in a new player of significance. The team we see today is probably going to be the team we see on the field Sundays this autumn.
On today's podcast we take stock of what the Jets have on the offensive side of the football. This is something we do periodically over the course of the offseason. Now that the offseason is complete, we can take one final look at areas of strength and weakness. We will talk about both the starters and the depth at position groups along the offense.
