Over the next few week we will likely hear rumors linking the Jets to every big name who becomes available. That is life as a team with a lot of cap space as the new league year begins. One of the biggest names out there is Antonio Brown. The superstar wide receiver seems likely to be traded out of Pittsburgh.
The Jets have a lot of cap space, and they certainly could use a go to wide receiver to pair with their young quarterback. Does that make the Jets a natural trade candidate?
Call me crazy, but I am not so sure this would be the right fit for Brown. On today's podcast I will look at some of the reasons a Brown deal might make sense and some reasons it might not be such a great idea. The reasons for him might seem obvious. The reasons against might seem like overreactions, but I think they are legitimate.

We are back with the latest edition in our weekly series of podcast mailbags. Thank you very much for sending in your questions. They are appreciated. We couldn't do the mailbag without you.
On today's show we look at whether it really matters when the quarterbacks skip throwing at the Combine, whether teams should utilize restricted free agency more, what it will take for Mike Maccagnan to get himself in the good graces of the fanbase, what the Jets should do at wide receiver, how far the Jets should be willing to trade down, the lifespan of a shutdown corner, and the best way to approach the seventh round of the Draft.

2019 will be a big year in free agency for the Jets. The team has a number of roster vacancies. It also has a number of key needs to fill and a lack of impact players. The Jets do have a large amount of cap space to try and improve the team.
On today's podcast I offer some thoughts on the areas I would prioritize this offseason. The Jets will be presented with a number of opportunities. Some will be right. Some will be wrong. Certain areas are more important to address than others.
None of this necessarily means these are the only areas the Jets should look to address. But these should be the main focus aside from opportunities that are too good to be true.

The Jets will likely be major buyers in free agency. The team needs to fill out its roster and requires upgrades at numerous positions. There is ample cap space to make big additions.
Teams that spend big in free agency can live to regret it, though. Every year signings that are celebrated in March are cursed by December. Just ask some Jets fans about Trumaine Johnson. On the other hand sometimes devastating whiffs on free agents can end up being blessings in disguise. Just ask some Jets fans about Kirk Cousins.
On today's podcast we lay out some potential free agents the Jets might be best served avoiding. These are players who figure to get big money this offseason but might not provide the future production to justify the investment.

The annual Scouting Combine is almost upon us. The top prospects for this year's NFL Draft will participate in drills, interviews, and tests. The Combine has become a major part of the scouting process through the years.
Many think it is totally useless and overhyped. I used to be one of those people. Through the years I have changed my mind. I no longer believe the Combine is totally useless and overhyped. Now I think it is mostly useless and overhyped. On today's podcast I will explain why.
I will tell you some of the mistakes I think people make when watching the Combine as well as the limited ways I believe it has usefulness to teams. Unfortunately for fans, many of the useful parts take place in private, while the overhyped parts are broadcast on national television.

If you read my musings or listen to my podcast, you might feel like you already know my dad. He's a longtime Jets fan who had season tickets back in the days the team played at Shea Stadium. He always calls me after a big game, trade, or signing to tell me what he thinks.
Today I wanted to give you the chance to really meet him, though, as he joins the Locked on Jets podcast to share his experiences rooting for the team. If you are here, sometime along the way you probably found that you enjoyed my perspective. I certainly wouldn't be here or rooting without the Jets without him so if you do enjoy my perspective, you have him to thank.
I hope you enjoy meeting my family today.

It is Thursday, which makes it podcast mailbag day. Thanks once again to everybody who submitted great questions for the show. A mailbag wouldn't be possible without mailbag questions. Apologies if your question went unanswered this week. Feel free to resend it next week if that was the case.
On today's show we look at how the looming expiration of the Collective Bargaining Agreement might impact free agency this year, whether we know how much salary cap space the Jets will have once the new league year begins, what winning free agency would look like for the Jets, whether Adam Gase's presence will have the Jets focusing on the offensive side of the ball in the Draft more than in recent seasons, and whether there's anything to worry about with former rivals Gregg Williams and Joe Vitt both on the defensive coaching staff.
