The NFL offseason is officially here. Yes, it began over a month ago for the Jets and most teams. Yes, it is still too early for most teams to make moves to upgrade their roster. But the completion of the Super Bowl now officially turns everybody's attention to the offseason.
This is a big offseason for the Jets. Their quarterback will be entering his second NFL season. The team is expected to have $100 million in salary cap space give or take. There are holes all over the roster that need to be addressed.
The biggest name out there is Le'Veon Bell. The star back is almost certain to leave Pittsburgh in free agency. The Jets' need to add elite talent on offense means the team will be naturally linked with him. Is he the right fit, though?
Today's podcast is dedicated to discussing the pros and cons of adding Bell.

Super Bowl Sunday is almost here. In two days, the hated New England Patriots will meet the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LIII. This is the second time the two teams have met on football’s biggest stage. Seventeen years ago, Bill Belichick, Tom Brady, and company upset a Rams juggernaut, paving the way for an almost two decade run of sustained success. Now AFC East rivals like the Jets hope another Super Bowl against the Rams will mark the end of the New England dynasty.
On today’s podcast I make my picks for Super Bowl LIII. The Super Bowl provides you the ability to bet on practically anything. In the first segment of the show, I amuse myself by looking at some of the ridiculous things you can predict...and I predict them.
After that it is time to focus on the big game. Who will win the battle between the Patriots and the Rams in Atlanta this Sunday?

This offseason the Jets will have a lot of salary cap space, and plenty of needs to fill.
One spot that could use an upgrade is the wide receiver position. While the Jets have Quincy Enunwa returning and probably Robby Anderson to go with him, the team could use at least one more receiver and probably more.
As you might have read, Michael Nania has put together a tremendous series chronicling some of the top potential targets in free agency. He joins us on today's podcast to talk about them.
As his series moves on to other positions, hopefully he can come back to discuss them as well.

Last week was the Senior Bowl. That is the biggest of the college all-star games. The players viewed as the top prospects in the next NFL Draft get invites for that one. The game and the practices that precede it are viewed as important parts of the scouting process.
Joining me on today's podcast is Trevor Sikkema of The Draft Network. Trevor was in Mobile, Alabama, all week watching the Senior Bowl practices. On today's show Trevor discusses why this week is so important, the significance of the practices relative to the game, some of the winners and losers from the week, what the Jets might do in the Draft, and how to scout players at a position of need for the Jets.

I try and put together one podcast mailbag each week. Usually the mailbag falls on Thursday. Sometimes when planning out the week, it becomes obvious the mailbag day needs to be moved to accommodate guests. This is one of those weeks. This week there is an early Tuesday mailbag show. Whether this is positive, negative, or neutral is up to you.
On the show today we will look at an under the radar free agent, whether the move to a 4-3 under Gregg Williams is overrated, whether the Jets should prioritize stockpiling defensive talent, what role Woody Johnson has, whether signing Le'Veon Bell is a realistic wish, whether the Jets will keep the third pick or trade down, and whether the new system might make Jordan Jenkins obsolete.

A new year means a fresh start. In the NFL a new coaching staff also frequently means a fresh start. Sometimes a new method of teaching can do wonders for a player. Sometimes a new system brings a role for which a player is better suited. Other times simply getting a clean slate with that new coach is enough to accelerate a career.
On today's podcast we look at players on the Jets who might benefit from the fresh start that 2019 will provide. Some of these players could benefit from having a new coach around. Others just need to turn the page from an unlucky 2018 where nothing went right for them.

The Jets have now hired a head coach and their three coordinators. The team needs to fill out its roster of position coaches, an ongoing process, but things are starting to settle down a bit. We can begin focusing on the offseason.
That is what we will do on today's podcast episode. We will put an eye on the upcoming offseason and look at what the Jets need. I think we frequently view needs too rigidly. Needs aren't just about the Jets needing a player at X position. Some needs are roles that need to be filled that could conceivably be handled by players at multiple positions. On this show I will discuss five areas that I believe need to be addressed.

The Jets have a new offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. It is Dowell Loggains. Loggains has served as a coordinator with three other teams before coming to New York and is a confidant of Adam Gase. That's the good news. The bad news is that his track record leaves something to be desired.
Today is podcast mailbag day, and given the circumstances most of the questions were about the hiring of Loggains. Thanks to everybody who sent in questions for the show.
We will look at the impact Loggains will have on Sam Darnold's development, whether it was even possible for the Jets to make a stronger hire with Adam Gase taking such an active role in the offense, whether Gase would fire Loggains if Darnold doesn't show growth, whether Quinnen Williams is a better prospect now than Leonard Williams was four years ago, whether the Jets should be willing to trade down with the Giants if it means helping the crosstown rival pick a quarterback, how hot Mike Maccagnan's seat is, and what the Jets should do if the top pass rushers are gone when their Draft pick comes.

One of the first tasks of any new head coach is to fill out his coaching staff. Adam Gase himself singled out this job as his top priority during his introductory press conference.
Gase is still in the relatively early stages of the job, but his staff is starting to take shape. The Jets have officially announced the hirings of his defensive coordinator and special teams coach. Other reports have suggested there are strong favorites for the jobs of offensive coordinator and offensive line coach (arguably the most important position coach hire).
On today's podcast I offer some thoughts on these new and potential Jets coaching candidates. Some bring good things to the table. Others bring less desirable traits.
