This week's slate of podcasts gets off to a late start. The discussion is all about what happened in the two Conference Championship Games that took place on Sunday. The Super Bowl matchup is set. The Rams and the Patriots will meet as both won exciting games on Sunday to earn a ticket.
In the NFC Championship Game, the Rams defeated the Saints in the Superdome. It was an instant classic, but the game will likely be remembered for all the wrong reasons. A very suspect no call on a blatant pass interference penalty dramatically altered the outcome. On the show I will discuss what I thought were some of the other key factors.
In the AFC Championship Game, the Patriots beat the Chiefs in overtime in an instant classic. New England executed its game plan very effectively to keep the game close and then got a break with the overtime coin toss.

The Jets have a new defensive coordinator, and it is a big name. The team formally announced the hiring of Gregg Williams earlier this week. Williams has been around the league. His most recent employer was the Cleveland Browns. He served as defensive coordinator and then as interim head coach this year after the firing of Hue Jackson.
Jeff Lloyd joins our podcast today to talk about what Williams will bring to the Jets. Jeff is the host of Locked on Browns. You might remember him from when he stopped by for an episode prior to the Week 3 game between the Jets and the Browns. Jeff has a lot of good things to say about Williams so you'll want to hear it. It will get you pumped about the Jets defense.
After I speak with Jeff, I offer my Conference Championship Game picks. I would love to see the next generation of quarterbacks make it to the Super Bowl, but I think it might be the old guard making one last stand.

We have our first podcast mailbag of the Adam Gase Era. Thanks as always to those of you who sent questions. The show couldn't happen without you. It was one of those weeks where we had more questions than time to answer all of them. If yours was not answered this week, feel free to resend it next week.
On today's show we look at how the hiring of Gregg Williams might impact the Jets' Draft approach, whether the Jets should design their uniforms to resemble what the Seahawks have, whether the Jets can handle risky additions the way the Patriots do, how the team would handle a tackle drafted in the first round, who Sam Darnold's backup should be in 2019, whether Jeremy Bates might be able to stay as offensive coordinator, and whether the Jets should extend Leonard Williams right now.

On today's podcast Andrew Hershkowitz joins me to talk about the state of the Jets.
Andrew is a frequent visitor to the Locked on Jets podcast. He has worked in the media industry for years. We collaborated on a few things when Andrew worked with Pro Football Focus. He also previously co-hosted a podcast on Gang Green Nation. I always enjoy talking football with Andrew.
For today Andrew is playing the role of my psychologist. He isn't as down on the hiring of Adam Gase as I am so he will try to convince me there is a light at the end of the tunnel. As you will hear, he actually does a pretty good job. We also talk about some offseason targets for the Jets and how the future looks.

The Jets are introducing Adam Gase as their new head coach later today.
On our podcast we are trying to provide as many perspectives as possible from people who know Gase well. On today's show we welcome Matt Cannata of The Phinsider, the SB Nation site that covers the Miami Dolphins. We will speak with Matt on Gase's strengths and weaknesses. At long last we have found somebody who has some genuinely good things to say about the new head coach of the Jets (along with some genuinely negative things).
After that I will offer some thoughts on the four Divisional games from the weekend. The chalk held, and the home teams advanced. That sets up a Championship Sunday pitting dynamic offenses against each other and living legend quarterbacks against the next generations. But first we need to talk about the four games that got us to this point.

Adam Gase is the new Jets head coach. The team reportedly settled on the Miami retread Wednesday night.
On today's podcast we bring in an expert to talk about what Gase will bring to the table for the Jets. Travis Wingfield is the host of the Locked on Dolphins podcast. If you listened during the season, you heard Travis help preview both games between the Jets and the Dolphins. He is a very insightful analyst so I was interested to hear his thoughts on Gase after watching him for three years. What does he do well? What does he do poorly? Were the Dolphins right to make a change? Should Jets fans be excited? We will discuss all of that.
After speaking with Travis, we move into Divisional weekend in the NFL. The league's top eight teams will play. I went 3-1 last week with my picks. This week I take the road teams in the AFC and the home teams in the NFC. You can tune in to learn why.

Due to scheduling this week, we are moving up our mailbag podcast from its customary Thursday to Wednesday. Thanks to everybody who submitted questions for the show. We couldn't do the mailbag wihout you.
On today's show we look at how the quality of candidates this year compares with the 2015 coaching search, whether bringing back Rex Ryan as defensive coordinator would be a good idea, whether Matt Rhule is the best coaching candidate, what type of system the Jets should run on offense and defense, the odds of the Jets trading for Antonio Brown, and why it is so difficult to build a quality coaching staff in the NFL.

The Jets' coaching search seems to be winding down. If nothing else, the first phase seems to be winding down. Yesterday reports came out that the team actually was able to interview Kliff Kingsbury for the job despite rumors from the weekend this would not be possible. The team has apparently also discussed the position with Matt Rhule. Soon the team will either make a hire, conduct second interviews, expand the search, or some combination of these.
I don't see a total slam dunk candidate among the people the Jets are examining. That doesn't mean these guys are necessarily destined for failure. Among the choices, I see positive and negative attributes. The positive attributes could make most of these guys successful. The negative could prevent them from having success.
On today's podcast I offer thoughts on what I like about each of the eight current candidates and what gives me pause about each of them.
