Christmas Day is one week from today. Hopefully you have gotten most of your gift shopping done, and unlike me the Post Office has returned none of the gifts you have bought to sender.
I was originally thinking of doing an Airing of Grievances today on the podcast to celebrate Festivus. That is when you gather your loved ones around the dinner table and tell them all the ways they have disappointed you in the last year. But given how negative this season has been for the Jets, I wanted to avoid anything that would lead to that level of snark.
So with that in mind, I suggest Christmas gifts for various members of the Jets on today's podcast. Look, it's been a poor year for the team so I can't promise every gift will have a positive context, but it hopefully is a more joyful, positive looking show than the Festivus episode would have been.

The Jets had an early game this week as they played the Houston Texans Saturday afternoon in the Meadowlands. In a way the result was familiar. The team lost for the tenth time this season, clinching a third consecutive season with double digit losses. Unlike many of the 2018 defeats, however, there was at least something of a silver lining from the game.
Sam Darnold played extremely well for the Jets. The year is all about the rookie quarterback for the Jets so seeing him thrive is an encouraging development for the team's future, particularly since the 2018 season is long lost. Almost every positive play from the Jets on Saturday was a result of Darnold doing something really well.
On today's podcast we look back at the game and discuss Darnold's performance along with the downside to Darnold doing it all, the struggles of the cornerbacks, and more.

Week 15 got off to quite a start in Kansas City as the Chargers rallied from 14 down to stun the Chiefs in a last minute victory. This weekend's NFL action continues tomorrow when the Texans come to MetLife Stadium for a game against the Jets. In a scheduling quirk, this marks the third time in four years the Jets have a Saturday game in Week 15. They beat the Cowboys in 2015 and lost to the Dolphins in 2016.
On today's podcast we preview this game between the Texans and the Jets. Houston is coming into the game off a loss. The Jets won last week, but I don't think anybody is expecting New York to pull out a victory. We will still discuss some of the keys to the Jets pulling off an upset and producing an unlikely late season winning streak.

Our podcast mailbag returns to Thursday after weeks of either being rescheduled to a different day or cancelled outright. Thanks to everybody for supplying the questions that make the mailbag happen. There were unfortunately too many good ones for me to be able to answer everything. Please feel free to resend your question for next week's mailbag if it wasn't answered this time.
On today's show we look at the case of Vikings offensive coordinator John DeFilippo, whether Le'Veon Bell would be the right fit, whether the Jets were lucky to be turned down by Kirk Cousins in free agency, why the team's run defense is so erratic, how much promise Chris Herndon has, what it would take to enter 2019 with confidence in Trumaine Johnson, how Nathan Shepherd has performed as a rookie, whether the team would hypothetically trade Sam Darnold for Baker Mayfield right now, whether it would have been better for the Jets to lose to Buffalo, and whether past experience working as an assistant for the Jets matters in coaching candidates.

Coming off a victory, the Jets have a short week. They are back in action on Saturday afternoon as they will take on the Houston Texans in the Meadowlands. Today to preview the game, I join Robert Land and Brian Patterson of Locked on Texans for one of the final Crossover Wednesday podcasts of the 2018 season.
The Texans and the Jets have been going in different directions recently. For two months it seemed like the Texans couldn't lose, but they are coming off a frustrating defeat to the Indianapolis Colts. It seemed like the Jets couldn't win for two months, but they are coming off a comeback victory over the Buffalo Bills.
We will previewing the game, discussing some of the important players and what these teams need to do to come out of Week 15 with a win.

The Jets got a win on Sunday. It was good to see on a number of different levels. The victory ended a six game losing streak. During the win, Sam Darnold registered his first fourth quarter comeback and put together his first game-winning drive. While beating a bad Bills team probably won't go down as the greatest moment in Sam's career, these were still important rites of passage.
Thinking long-term, however, the Jets are in a state of flux. 2018 has been a season of disappointment in New York, and changes are sure to come over the next few weeks. The big question is how big the changes will be.
On today's podcast I offer some musings about the state of the franchise and some things I believe ownership needs to keep in mind as it looks to improve the team and put the right people in place.

For the first time since the middle of October, the Jets got a win yesterday. New York rallied late to beat the Buffalo Bills on the road 27-23. It was a stark contrast to the first meeting between the two teams in the Meadowlands last month won by Buffalo 41-10. A lot can change between games, and that certainly happened in this game. New York came back from an early 14-3 deficit and put together a game-winning drive in at the end of the game.
The big story will be and should be Sam Darnold registering his first fourth quarter comeback and his first game winning drive. He may have done it in a contest between a pair of bad football teams, but it still was a road comeback victory against a quality defense. On today's podcast we will discuss Sam's heroics along with tanking talk and some of the other heroes of the game.

The Jets continue playing out the string this Sunday as they make their annual trip to Orchard Park to take on the Buffalo Bills. The good news is it sounds like Sam Darnold will be making his return to the starting lineup. The rookie has missed the last three games. If nothing else, Darnold's presence will make the game more interesting as the future of the franchise looks to finish his rookie year on a strong note. Watching Sam out there certainly beats watching a journeyman 39 year old quarterback.
On today's podcast we preview the game. We will look at key players, key matchups, and keys to victory as the Jets look to end their six game losing streak. Can this team finish the last quarter of a dismal season on something of a high note?

Our Crossover Wednesday show this week has been moved to Thursday. Kevin Massare of Locked on Bills and I once again connected to record a crossover show. This one is in advance of the second meeting between the Jets and the Bills of 2018. This one will be a road game for the Jets.
The first meeting between the teams this season was about as ugly as one could imagine for the Jets. The Bills marched into MetLife Stadium with Matt Barkley at quarterback and dominated the Jets from the first play. On today's show we will find out what the Bills have been up to since that embarrassing day at the Meadowlands. We will also find out where the strengths and weaknesses lie for this Buffalo team.

Due to some scheduling quirks this week, we will move the usual Thursday mailbag podcast to Wednesday. This is our first mailbag in three weeks. Two weeks ago Thanksgiving came on mailbag day. Last week there were some other scheduling matters that prevented a mailbag. Today we are back. Thanks to everybody who submitted questions for the show, and apologies if your question was not answered.
Today we look at which stats matter when evaluating edge rushers, whether the Jets should appoint a personnel guy as Mike Maccagnan's boss, how much the Jets should require to trade down if Nick Bosa is available when they pick, how safe Maccagnan's job is, whether Chris Johnson has full authority to decide whether the general manager and head coach will be fired, why this rebuild is taking so long, and more.
