It was a relatively eventful weekend for the Jets' coaching search. It was also a very eventful weekend for the NFL as the Playoffs got started. On today's podcast we will talk about both.
The Jets conducted an interview with former Packers coach Mike McCarthy. Reports indicate the interview went really well, and there is mutual interest. It seems as though McCarthy might be the favorite at this point in time. In other news, the Jets gained a potential candidate in Baylor coach Matt Rhule and lost a potential candidate in USC offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury as the school reportedly has denied the Jets' interview request. For some odd reason, the NFL is backing the school.
The first weekend of the NFL Playoffs is now complete. Three of the four road teams won. The Colts, Cowboys, Chargers, and Eagles join the Patriots, Chiefs, Rams, and Saints in next weekend's Divisional round. We will discuss some of the key notes from this weekend's game.

The NFL Playoffs begin tomorrow. For the eighth straight year, there will be no Jets in the postseason, but this should be an entertaining slate of games.
On today's podcast I offer picks for the first round of the Playoffs. Just once I want to go 11-0 through an entire postseason making predictions. The closest I have ever come was 10-1. Last year the dream was over before it started. In the first game of Wild Card Weekend, I picked the Chiefs to beat the Titans. Tennessee won in an upset, ending my quest for perfection early. I picked against the Eagles in all three of their games to cap off a brutal postseason. Hopefully I will do better this year.
For this weekend I am picking Indianapolis over Houston, Dallas over Seattle, Los Angeles over Baltimore, and Chicago over Philadelphia. You can listen to the show for an explanation.

On today's show we look at the best candidates for the Jets as they continue their head coaching search, whether it makes a difference if the head coach has an offensive or defensive background, whether there should be concern about how Le'Veon Bell and Antonio Brown fit into the locker room if the Jets pursue them, whether the Jets playing close games proves the team has more talent than people realize, how Derrick Jones played against New England, and how much blame Neil Glat deserves for the team's issues.

Tonight we will put a bow on the season with the rare Sunday evening podcast.
Obviously we are expecting some pretty big news on the firing front on Monday so let's clear the deck and discuss the big Jets stories from the weekend.
We will start by discussing Quincy Enunwa's new contract. The wide receiver agreed to terms with the Jets on a new contract late last week with an annual salary of $9 million.
The Jets also wrapped up their 2018 season today with a 38-3 loss to the Patriots. There isn't a lot to say beyond pointing out the obvious, the team has far too little talent.
The Jets also landed the third overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. The loss helped their positioning, but the rest of the league did not provide the necessary help to jump to a higher pick.

The Jets conclude their 2018 season on Sunday in Foxborough against the New England Patriots. It has been a disappointing year for the team. Despite an active offseason, the Jets need a victory on Sunday just to match their 5-11 record from the last two seasons.
This is a meaningful game for the Patriots who could fall out of a first round bye if the Jets win and the Texans score a victory. For the Jets, this game is about pride, Draft positioning, ending the season on a strong note, and the rookie quarterback carrying some momentum into the offseason.
On today's podcast we take a look at the game. What are the keys in what is likely to be the final game Todd Bowles coaches with the Jets?

I hope everybody is having a great Christmas season with their friends and loved ones. I took the first and second days of Christmas off for the podcast, but we are back today with a mailbag on the third day of Christmas. Thanks to all who submitted questions. It was one of those weeks where there were too many great questions to answer them all so feel free to resend yours next week if it didn't get answered.
Today we look at whether the Jets should focus on filling needs or looking for the best talent in the NFL Draft, whether the team will be able to trade down without a top three pick, whether the fanbase should still have some optimism if Mike Maccagnan is retained, how much Maccagnan has changed the team's scouting department, favorite memories with the team's current uniforms, possible GM candidates, and the best background for a coaching candidate.

In a season that has been full of miserable defeats, the Jets suffered another one yesterday at the Meadowlands. Despite being in control for much of the game and holding a late 15 point lead, the Green Bay Packers mounted a late comeback to net a 44-38 overtime victory in the Meadowlands.
On today's podcast we look back at a game that can be pinned on the defense, particularly a few prominent players who continued to come up small. One of them was watching things from the locker room because of his own selfishness. Another walked out of the locker room out of the game rather than speak to the media. The troubling thing is this was the unit that was supposed to be the strength.
There also were some positives to take from the game, namely the sustained excellent play of Sam Darnold along with a few of Sam's weapons.

Only two weeks remain in the 2018 season for the Jets, and Christmas is right around the corner. It is also Thursday, which makes it a podcast mailbag day. Thanks to everybody who submitted questions for our mailbag. I couldn't do it without. you. There were too many good questions to answer all of them. Please feel free to resend your question next week if it went unanswered in this edition of the mailbag.
On today's show we look at whether the NFL should throw less taunting flags, whether Reggie McKenzie would be the right general manager for the Jets, whether the Jets should bench Jermaine Kearse, the names of some retread coaching candidates who might emerge on the radar, whether Brandon Shell is the answer at right tackle long-term, why some quarterbacks figure it out after a bad rookie year while others don't, whether the Jets should fire Mike Maccagnan and Todd Bowles today, and some dark horse coaching candidates.

Sunday is the home finale for the Jets as they host the Green Bay Packers. 2018 has been a very disappointing year in New York, but it is nothing compared with what the Packers have gone through. Green Bay is a team used to going to the Playoffs. The expectations there are contending for a championship.
It has been a miserable year for the Packers, and it brought about a midseason coaching change. Sunday’s contest will be a late season game between a pair of teams out of the Playoff race. This is a familiar sight for Jets fans, but not so much for Green Bay.
Today is another Crossover Wednesday podcast. Peter Bukowski, the host of Locked on Packers, and I chat about the game and the direction of these two franchises.
