November is here. To celebrate the arrival of the year's penultimate month and the fact today is Thursday, we will do a podcast mailbag today. Thanks as always to those of you who submitted questions. We couldn't do the show without you. Apologies if your question was not answered. Feel free to resubmit it for future mailbags.
On today's show we look at whether Jets fans should expect Sam Darnold to carry the team to victory this Sunday, whether analytics in football have caught up to those used in baseball, whether the Jets' offensive scheme is too simple, whether the team should use more designed runs for Darnold, whether the team should look to hire recently fired Browns coaches, how bleak the season will look if the Jets lose the next two games, how my reaction would have been had the team traded Leonard Williams for a first round pick, and whether Todd Bowles could be fired before the season ends.

Happy Halloween!
The trade deadline has passed in the NFL. Despite a flurry of activity within the league prior to the deadline yesterday, the Jets were silent. The team reportedly showed interest in Dante Fowler, but not the same interest the Rams showed. Los Angeles sent a third and a fifth round pick to Jacksonville to rent Fowler for the last eight games of the season until his contract ran out. It's tough to blame the Jets for passing on that opportunity.
We discuss the deadline a bit on today's podcast, but the bulk of the show is spent with Travis Wingfield, the host of Locked on Dolphins. It is Crossover Wednesday. Travis joined our show earlier in the season. He was pumped about the Dolphins' great start. Now things look rather bleak in Miami, and Travis' spirits are down. Tune in to hear more about the state of the Dolphins.

Believe it or not, the Jets are halfway through the 2018 season. Sunday's loss to Chicago marked the official halfway point. There are eight games left in the year over the final nine weeks of the regular season. On today's podcast we look forward to those last eight games.
I will provide you with things I want to see as the season moves to the back nine (or back eight). Success for this team in some ways will be subjective. There are important players who need to show signs of growth, namely Sam Darnold. There are players who need to bounce back from a rough first half. But some of the success or failure in the second half will be objective. This team can't finish 5-11 again and call the season a success.
We will discuss in more detail on today's show.

The Jets fell to 3-5 yesterday. The Chicago Bears defeated them 24-10 at Solider Field. New York now finds itself on a two game losing streak. A pair of divisional games are up next before the bye. The next two weeks may determine whether there there will be any excitement for this team down the stretch.
Before we get there, there is still yesterday's game to discuss. On today's podcast we will recap what happened. The Jets went into this game undermanned, but a victory was by no means an impossible order. The team had opportunities but squandered them. The Jets also made their share of unforced errors. We will discuss it all on today's show.

After a three week homestand, the Jets now head to the road. They face the Chicago Bears this Sunday in the Windy City. Difficult though it is to believe, the 2018 season will be halfway done by the time this game ends.
The Jets are looking to head into their bye on a strong note. Only two games remain until the bye after Sunday.
On today's podcast we preview this Week 8 game. We look at a key player, a key matchup, and a key to victory on the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. Who needs to step up, and what needs to happen for the Jets to pull off a road upset? We will discuss on today's show.

Thursday means it is time for a podcast mailbag. Thanks to everybody who submitted questions for this week's mailbag. I answered as many as I could. If your question did not get answered, feel free to send it again for a future mailbag.
On today's show we look at what the Jets should do at the trade deadline, the identity of the best player for the Jets to target in free agency in 2019, which position is the most important on the offensive line for the Jets to address moving forward, whether Mike Maccagnan did enough to give Sam Darnold a quality supporting cast, and whether a change in Darron Lee's role might be responsible for improved play.

It is Week 8 of the 2018 NFL season, and it is Crossover Wednesday on the podcast. Joining us today is Lorin Cox, who hosts Locked on Bears. Lorin will help us prepare for the game this Sunday between the New York Jets and the Chicago Bears.
On the show we will talk about the impact of Chicago's new coach Matt Nagy. We will also discuss the ups and downs of Chicago's young quarterback Mitchell Trubisky. Lorin will take us through the playmakers to watch on the Bears offense and tell us the state of the offensive line. On the defensive side of the ball, we discuss Khalil Mack, other players to watch, and where this defense might be vulnerable. Lorin also tells us about the Bears special teams and offers his thoughts on how good this Bears team actually is.

Yesterday I was talking with somebody I knew, and I got on a roll talking about Week 7 of the NFL season. I don't know exactly why this week of NFL action has me so fired up, but I had thoughts about practically every topic imaginable.
At some point it dawned on me that my friend didn't need to be subjected to this. There are thousands of people out there who have no choice but to listen to my NFL ramblings (well unless they choose to not listen to the podcast). So on today's podcast I tell you everything I think about the NFL.
I'll talk about a coach I think is getting two much grief, an unconventional strategy, a team I'm tired of hearing about, and a big trade.

The Jets fell to 3-4 yesterday as they lost to the Minnesota Vikings at MetLife Stadium. The final score was 37-17. The defeat ended New York's two game winning streak and prevented the team from sweeping a three game homestand. The Jets will now look to recover on the road next week against another NFC North opponent, the Chicago Bears.
On today's podcast we recap this defeat for the Jets. How much does this loss matter in the grand scheme of things? How troubled should Jets fans be? How much did the elements have to do with it? Who played well? Who didn't? We will touch on all of these things.
The ultimate conclusion is that the Jets were defeated by a better football team. Today's show will explain that in greater detail.

The Jets close out their three game homestand this Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings. Two weeks ago things looked bleak for the Jets as they stood at 1-3. Their 2018 season seemed to be in deep trouble.
A two game winning streak has helped to stabilize things. With a victory over Minnesota, the Jets will be back over the .500 mark for the first time since Week 1. Even a loss wouldn't be the end of the world, though. The main objective of this homestand was just to get the season back on track. The team has done that with victories over the Broncos and the Colts.
On today's podcast we preview this Week 7 game between the Jets and the Vikings, looking at one key player, one key matchup, and one key to victory on the offensive and defensive sides of the ball.
