We have reached Conference Championship Weekend in the NFL. This is the last true football Sunday of the year. I think Super Bowl Sunday is as much about the events surrounding the game as the game itself. The game kicks off at a weird time. There are oddities within the game, and there are plenty of distractions. The neutral site nature of the Super Bowl also gives it a strange vibe.
The conference title games, on the other hand, give us a pair of championship tilts in front of crazy crowds.
This year the Jacksonville Jaguars visit the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship Game, while the Minnesota Vikings visit the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship Game.
On today's podcast, I make predictions for the title games. Who will move on the Super Bowl? I will let you know my thoughts as I try to improve on my mediocre 4-4 record.

Today's podcast was supposed to be the Thursday mailbag, but the Jets had other plans. The team announced the firing of offensive coordinator John Morton on Wednesday. There had been rumblings of the team's dissatisfaction with the offensive coordinator for a few weeks so this was not a total surprise. The Jets did go two and a half weeks from the end of the season without making a change, however, so one could be forgiven for expecting Morton to be safe.
On today's show we take a look at the move. Was it the right decision? What were the factors? Where do the Jets go from here? Who are the potential replacements? How does this impact what the Jets do at quarterback? We will address it all

We start our podcast today with a PSA. The Jets announced on Tuesday they are either freezing or cutting the prices of tickets throughout MetLife Stadium. Season ticket holders will all get Jets Cash to use for food or merchandise, and prices will be at their lowest rate for Jets games since MetLife Stadium opened.
The bulk of today's podcast focuses on maximizing the efficiency of the roster. While teams in other sports have entire minor league systems dedicated to developing prospects, NFL teams only get 53 roster and 10 practice squad spots. That puts a pretty big limit on what teams can do cultivating young talent. It makes the use of every roster spot important. Each spot is a valuable resource that should not be wasted. Each should go either to a player helping the team today in an important role or somebody who can help the team in the future.
We explore this in more depth and check out how it pertains to the Jets.

Divisional weekend in the NFL was full of excitement this year. Three of the four games went down to the wire. On today's podcast we look back at the games that set up this year's final four.
The top seeded Eagles upset the sixth seeded Falcons to get the weekend started. In some ways, the game might have been decided by coaching. The Patriots blew out the Titans in a game where almost everybody expected...well that the Patriots would blow out the Titans. Sunday in Pittsburgh the Jaguars upset the Steelers in a game where coaching again came into play. We might have seen one coach come of age, while another made questionable decisions, and a late Steelers flourish could not undo a fast Jacksonville start. Finally we had what might be remembered as the game of the year in the NFL. It had everything from a 17 point comeback to four late lead changes to a miracle finish.

On today's show we look at whether Mike Maccagnan should change his criteria for drafting quarterbacks, whether the Jets should trade up for Josh Allen in the event Josh Rosen and Sam Darnold go in the top two picks of the Draft, which prospect I would choose at 6, what type of offense would best suit Lamar Jackson, whether teams have enough information on Teddy Bridgewater's health to feel confident in signing him, and whether it would be all right for the Jets to choose yet another defensive player with the sixth pick.

The Jets in the midst of formulating their offseason plan. There is still plenty of time before the offseason begins in earnest. Eight teams are still playing games this season, and three rounds of the postseason remain. Still, this is the time the Jets and other teams out of the mix are using to think about how they will attack free agency.
One important but often understated aspect of roster management is self-scouting. Yes, teams need to make smart signings and trades to import quality players from other teams. Yes, the Draft is king when it comes to procuring premium talent. Teams also need to understand what they have and don't have on their roster.
I don't think that is an area where the Jets excelled last offseason, and there was one area where it was particularly clear, on the offensive line. That is the topic of today's podcast. We will look at three decisions the Jets made and how they missed the mark. We will also look at the different ways you can fail self-scouting. You can overpay. You can misjudge a player's capabilities. You can bring back players even though their replacement is in the fold. The Jets did all three.
We look at last year to learn how the Jets can avoid these pitfalls this year.

The NFL Playoffs got underway this weekend, but the focus for fans of non-Playoff teams like the Jets is on the offseason, namely the Draft. Tonight is a big night for Draft observers as the College Football Playoff Championship will take place in Atlanta. Alabama will meet Georgia in a game filled with prospects.
Joining the podcast today to talk about some of the best prospects to watch is Dave-Te' Thomas. If you are a regular listener of the podcast, you probably remember Dave-Te' from his past visits. He has been scouting professional football for around 50 years. He has a unique viewpoint and isn't afraid to tell you what he thinks.
After we talk about Alabama-Georgia, we expand to get a view on the broader Draft, including the quarterback prospects. Dave-Te also offers some NFL and Jets offseason predictions.
