The end of the regular season in the NFL has coincided with a blast of winter in the Northeast. Hopefully everybody finds a way to stay warm today. While you shovel out, we have a Thursday podcast mailbag. As always, thanks to those of you who asked questions.
This week I am not alone for the mailbag. Michael from Gang Green Nation joins us to discuss Jets questions. We look at whether free agency is a better road than the Draft to find a quarterback, whether any changes are needed on the coaching staff, whether Todd Bowles would do well to add a coach to the staff who can help with game management, whether team president Neil Glat gets off too easy for the teams struggles, and whether the Jets should be in the market to trade up in the Draft for a quarterback.

The 2017 season is over for the Jets. The podcast now shifts into offseason mode.
During the regular season, the podcast generally had a set schedule for the week. At points we would divert from it, but you generally had a good sense of what was coming each day. During the offseason, we will look to provide more variety. We will have some old friends come to visit and hopefully make some new friends along the way. We also will try out new themes for shows.
Today is our first official offseason podcast, and I wanted to open it up to you. On Friday we asked on the website and on Twitter your views on the extensions Mike Maccagnan and Todd Bowles received. On today's show, I will share the feedback received. This is a fanbase with many different viewpoints, and there was a lot of disagreement about the moves.

The 2017 season is now over for the Jets. New York was blown out by the Patriots in the season finale Sunday in Foxborough. Thus ends a second consecutive 5-11 campaign for the Jets. On today's podcast, we put a bow on a year that began with some degree of promise but fell apart at the end.
The game on Sunday was not pretty. The weather was ugly. The play on the field was arguably uglier. The Jets were outclassed by a much better team.
A few days before the game, a more important development took shape. The Jets decided to keep their management team in place. General manager Mike Maccagnan and head coach Todd Bowles were given two year contract extensions. What do these deals mean? Were they a good idea? We will discuss it on today's show.

We have reached the end of the 2017 season. While twelve lucky teams will continue to play past Week 17, the Jets are not among them. New York sees its season end this Sunday against the Patriots in Foxborough. The Jets are in the role of spoiler hoping to end their season on a high note and prevent the Pats from clinching the top seed in the AFC.
On today's podcast we preview the game. As we have all season we find one key player, one key matchup, and one key to victory on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. This Jets team has a very difficult task ahead of it trying to win this game. We look at what they can do to end their season on a stunning high note.

Only one game remains in the 2017 season for the Jets. They take on the New England Patriots this Sunday to close out the year. This makes today our final Thursday mailbag podcast of the season (although we certainly will have more mailbag podcasts in the offseason).
Today we look at which quarterbacks could interest the Jets in free agency, whether the triple option could be viable as an NFL system, how many players the Jets need before they could be considered a viable contender for the Playoffs, the most overrated player on the team, the most underrated player on the team, the most overrated team in the league, whether the Jets need a new defensive coordinator and whether fans should trust the evaluation skills of the coaching staff,

The season ends this week for the Jets. New York has a trip to New England. The rival Patriots will be in the postseason, and this game has plenty of meaning for them. New England can clinch the top seed in the AFC Playoffs with a win. Meanwhile the Jets are just hoping to get to 6-10, which would give them one more win in 2017 than they had in 2016.
The focus for the Jets is more on the future than the present. That makes it a good time to take stock in where the team currently stands. The Jets aren't totally lacking in young talent, but the inventory shows this is a team still very much in the beginning stages of a rebuild. This is not a team anywhere close to contending. There are lots of holes to fill, and they exist at all of the important positions.
Tune in to hear where the Jets currently stand.

The Jets lost once again on Sunday. The Los Angeles Chargers handed the Jets a 14-7 defeat at MetLife Stadium. Today we look back at the game on the podcast.
In many instances, the quarterback gets too much credit when the team wins and takes too much blame when the team loses. That has not been the case for the Jets the last two weeks. Bryce Petty's play has been extremely ineffective. The young quarterback was the primary culprit in last week's loss to the Saints, and things did not get any better against the Chargers. The fact he has been training for three years, and this is the best the Jets can get feels like a very bad sign. We discuss it on today's show along with some of the other performances of note from the loss.

The Jets play their final home game of 2017 this Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers. The team now knows for certain it will not be in the Playoffs in 2017, which leaves the Jets playing spoiler against a team with everything on the line. At the very least, the Jets can look to improve their Christmas Eve record. The day before Christmas has not been kind to this franchise recently, including last year's blowout loss to the Patriots.
On today's podcast, we preview the game. As we have done all year on the podcast previews, we pick one key player, one key matchup, and one key to victory on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. The Jets are the less talented team in this game so winning will require some big efforts. Some players in particular need to have huge games. On today's show we try to figure out which players these are.

Due to scheduling issues, today's podcast was posted later than normal. We will be back again tomorrow at the normal bat-time. It is Thursday so that means it is mailbag day. Thanks to those of you who sent questions. We did the best we could to get to all of them.
Today we look at whether Bill O'Brien could be a guy the Jets look to in the event Todd Bowles is replaced, whether the Jets should keep their three headed running back group in place for 2018, whether it would make sense to bring back Josh McCown in 2018, whether it would make sense to bring back Sheldon Richardson in 2018, whether it is better to trade down and stockpile picks or take a quarterback, and the potential compensation if the Jets and Cardinals were hypothetically to work out a trade involving Todd Bowles.

Only two weeks remain in the 2017 season for the New York Jets. As you know by now, there will be no postseason for this team for a seventh consecutive season. While the team will look to put wins on the board to improve its final record, the Jets will have a losing record for the second straight season, the third time in four seasons, and the fourth time in six seasons.
Clearly a lot needs to be fixed. While this team is probably more than one offseason away from eliminating all of its problems, it is not too early to start looking. Our friend Michael from Gang Green Nation joins our show once again for a discussion of Jets needs heading into the offseason. The biggest needs seem to fall at the premium positions. This team really doesn't have much at the most important positions on the field, even if you get past the obvious need at quarterback.
Tune in as we discuss Jets needs, philosophy regarding positional value, and strategies for holiday shopping.
