The Reds lit up Great American Ballpark, smashing six home runs on their way to an easy 10-6 win over the Marlins in the second of three games between the two National League rivals.
----- 'LIVE' Instant Reaction from Jim GRIES Grieshaber -----
Reds Rookie Right Fielder Rece Hinds continued his magical debut week, hitting two more home runs and a double, and driving in three more runs. In six games since being called up, the top prospect is 11-23 with five homers, four doubles, 11 RBI's and six runs scored. Ten of his eleven hits have gone for extra bases, setting an MLB record for extra base hits in a player's first six games.
Elly De La Cruz, Spencer Steer, Santiago Espinal and Marlin-killer Jeimer Candelario also homered for the Reds, who have won five of their last six games in the midst of an offensive explosion.
Hinds, De La Cruz and Candelario went back-to-back-to-back off Marlins Starter Edward Cabrera (L, 3-1) in the third inning. Cabrera got torched again, giving up seven runs on six hits- including four homers- in just 3 1/3 innings.
Josh Bell and Jake Burger hit back-to-back homers for Miami, . Burger went 4-5 on the day, including a two-run single. Bell added an RBI double. Xavier Edwards had another two-hit day.
The Marlins offense has torn the Reds up these first two games- scoring ten runs on 26 hits- but their pitchers have allowed 17 runs on 21 hits in what has at times looked like a beer-league softball series.
The Marlins (32-63) have lost ten of their last twelve games. Those two wins were over the pathetically awful Chicago White Sox. The Marlins and Reds (47-49) wrap up this three-game series- and the first half of the season- tomorrow at Great American Ballpark. Lefty Trevor Rogers (1-9, 4.82 ERA) will pitch for Miami, taking on Cincinnati's Nick Lodolo. (8-3, 3.30)
We will be here 'LIVE' right after the game with your Locked On Marlins POSTCAST, hosted by Jim GRIES Grieshaber.
This will be the last game before the MLB All-Star break, which will run from Monday through Thursday of next week.
