Locked On Penguins - Daily Podcast On The Pittsburgh Penguins

No ocean for this one, sorry peeps. There's still some good content to get to in the latest episode of Locked On Penguins and it includes Zach Aston-Reese's season review! Before that though, Hunter dives into Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final and what went wrong for the Tampa Bay Lightning. How on earth was Montreal able to kill off that four-minute minor? Does the series get past tonight's game? Was it still a lousy decision to not dress JK or Tatar? After that, Hunter does get into ZAR's season and looks at how dominant he was defensively. Would he be the hardest of the three to replace from the fourth line? Is he the engine that makes that line go? Finally, the show ends with some interesting but fun mailbag questions!

Is that the ocean you hear? Even on vacation, Hunter still produces content and there's no shortage of topics to discuss. He first starts out with his thoughts and prayers to Matiss Kivlenieks as he unexpectedly lost his life last night due to a fireworks accident. After that, he goes into the surprising departure of Sam Ventura and what it means for the Penguins moving forward. Who could they replace him with? Is this a bigger deal than what it's been made out to be? What was the potential motive behind the move? Hunter also discusses the Stanley Cup FInal and how this should be the result that everyone expected. He also goes into some lineup thoughts for Montreal as they're making two key blunders going into tonight's game. All that, plus much more on today's episode of Locked On Penguins.

Happy First Day of July! We're still going strong this month with episodes every weekday and there are no shortages of topics to discuss today. Hunter brings up a Rob Rossi quote from the Penguins subreddit as it looks like Ron Hextall wants to bring in a new goalie. Which one makes the most sense? Is there a favorite that they should go after? Hunter weighs in with his top two before changing course to the defense. Hextall confirmed that they'd have to move money to sign Cody Ceci but does that make sense? Is it better to have Chad Ruhwedel at his spot? What about POJ? Finally, Hunter recaps the Stanley Cup Final and the LA/Nashville trade we saw today!

After the crossover of a lifetime on Monday, it's just Hunter for Tuesday, which shouldn't be a bad thing. He starts the show by talking about ESPN's announcement for their hockey coverage this coming season. Are there any bad names on there? Who will be their No. 1 team throughout the season? Are the networks moving away from the shock jock analysts? He answers all of those before touching on Jared McCann, who was a hot topic of discussion on Penguins Twitter today. What should his next contract look like? Is there legit worry for him going into next season? Hunter also touches on why he still MUST be protected in the expansion draft before finishing the show with some topics around the league!

We finally have the crossover that I'm sure many of you are waiting for. Zachary Smith and Tyler Weeks of AroundThe412 join Hunter in this very special episode of Locked On Penguins and they talk about everything regarding the team at this moment. They first start out with Marc-Andre Fleury and how those talks have ramped up the last few days in the fanbase. Does it make sense to bring MAF back? How would it even happen? They then get into a big talk about expansion as Tyler and Zach share their lists on the show, and yes they're different. They also touch on free agency and which goalie they'd go after to help Tristan Jarry, plus who do they think is picked in expansion? And is Tyler really expecting Montreal to win the Stanley Cup?

An old friend to come home to Pittsburgh? Yep, that's what we're discussing in this first segment for Locked On Penguins. Hunter discusses the possibility of bringing Brandon Saad back to Pittsburgh after he grew up in the city and if it makes sense. What would a contract likely look like? What's the highest the Penguins would go for him? After that, Hunter gets into Jason Zucker's season from hell and how his numbers lined up to the eye test. Should we expect more of the same next season? What needs to happen for him to get back to his level before this season? Finally, Hunter discusses that crazy Islanders-Lightning Game 6, and Dave Hakstol being hired by Seattle as their first head coach.

It's surely a special episode today. After some Matthew Tkachuk rumors swirled last night, Hunter talks about how perfect of a fit it would be with the Penguins, especially after what Ron Hextall said during his end-of-season press conference. What would it cost to get him? Does it make sense to include Sam Poulin in a deal for him? Hunter also wonders about the contract, where Tkachuk has just one year left at $7M. After that, he gets into a potential ZAR replacement in Joel Armia and what he would bring to the lineup. Was this year a bit of a fluke or is it a sign of things to come? What kind of contract would he likely get? To wrap it up, Hunter recaps Bolts-Islanders Game 5 and wonders if this is the end for the Nassau Coliseum (finally).

We're approaching 300 episodes for the Locked On Penguins podcast and the fun definitely doesn't stop there. Hunter brings the heat to start today's episode with a long rant on NHL Officiating, especially after the gong show we saw last night in Vegas-Montreal. What can the league do moving forward to stop this? Do the officials need to be made available to the media after the game? Will this stop the growth of the sport in a way? Those are all questions Hunter tackles, plus he gives his take on whether it was the right call to go to Robin Lehner in Game 4. After that, he recaps Kasperi Kapanen's season and why some fans need to be wary of him going into next season. Where will the regression likely stem from? Finally, we get to more expansion talk as Hunter brings up who he thinks Penguins management will prioritize for the protected list and how this could open up some interesting cap-related questions this offseason.

Even though there's not a lot of news surrounding the Penguins, the content doesn't stop. Hunter first touches on an article from The Athletic that came out this morning about an expansion mock draft and who the writers have from the Penguins leaving. Are two of them the best-case scenario for the Penguins? Who would Seattle also take if it came down to Blueger or ZAR? He then gets into a potential savvy bottom-six add...(he's from Montreal). After that, it's Bryan Rust's season review. Was he one of the more dominant players in the playoffs? Should we expect a trade with him this offseason? What makes the most sense going into this huge year for the core? Finally, Hunter gives a rant on the GM of the Year Award and why it's a total sham.

Did Mike Vellucci really almost get hired? Hunter explains Elliotte Friedman's report in 31 thoughts as the Blue Jackets interviewed him twice before going in-house for their coaching hire. Would it have been a big blow to Pittsburgh? Hunter also explains that as well, plus where that replacement hire would've came from if he left. He also gets into some talk about the Norris Trophy and how Victor Hedman shouldn't anywhere near the top three. Did none of the writers pay attention this season? Finally, it's Jake Guentzel's season review. How good was he in the playoffs? What are expectations for him next season? Will his playoff scoring come around again?
