Locked On Stars - Daily Podcast On The Dallas Stars

There are still some big-name NHL players available to be signed in free agency, and today Dane explores how the Stars could add some of these players. Who would the Stars have to trade in order to acquire more cap space? How much would it cost to sign Patrick Kane or Matt Dumba? Would these players be worth pursuing? Why or why not?

NHL free agency has slowed down quite bit but the Stars were still active on Sunday as they signed defenseman Gavin Bayreuther to a 1 year deal worth $775,000. Bayreuther will add some decent depth for the Stars organization, but there is still the feeling that more needs to be done for the the defense to be at a championship caliber. Today Dane gives his thoughts on why we need to be patient with the construction of the Stars blue line. We can’t expect all of the problems to be solved in one day, and given how talented the Stars roster is, that’s okay.

NHL free agency is underway for the 2023 offseason and the Dallas Stars are quite active. They added some new forwards in Matt Duchene, Craig Smith and Sam Steel. Today, Dane breaks down each player’s new contract and analyzes how their skillset would mix in the Dallas Stars roster. With every new addition comes the departure of beloved fan favorites. Max Domi, Luke Glendening and Joel Kiviranta will not be coming back to join the team. Even with a busy first day, it doesn’t seem like the Stars are done making moves just yet. What else will Jim Nill and friends throw our way?

Dallas Stars General Manager Jim Nill was recognized in Nashville on Wednesday night as the NHL’s GM of the year for the 2022-2023 season. This is a much-deserved honor as Nill has done some great work to put the Stars on a great trajectory. Today Dane breaks down one of Nill’s riskier decisions when he traded the Stars 2023 first round pick for defenseman Nils Lundkvist. Was this move worth it? Are we being too hard on Lundkvist in his development process?

The Dallas Stars have announced a new contract for forward Evgenii Dadonov. The contract will last two seasons and will be worth $4.5 million ($2.25 million AAV). Dadonov was a key piece for the Stars during their run to the western conference final. While keeping Dadonov is great for the team, it means that there may be some other players who the team will be unable to keep for cap reasons. Dane also discusses Jason Robertson’s selection to the 2022-2023 NHL first all-star team and Wyatt Johnston’s selection to the 2022-2023 NHL all-rookie team.

This is a busy week in the world of the NHL but the Dallas Stars will not be as busy as some other clubs. The Stars have a lack of representation at the NHL awards and will not have a pick in the draft until the late stages of round 2. Is there anything in the draft worth getting excited for? What should Stars fans be on the look out for with the picks the team does have? Dane breaks it all down on today’s pod.

This is the time of year where every NHL team is looking to improve their roster through trades and free agency. The Dallas Stars will be looking to add some great pieces to help contribute to another deep playoff run in 2023-2024. Today, Dane takes a look at payers that Stars fans would like to see in victory green sweaters on opening night. The three players in question today are Noah Hanifin, Carson Soucy and Tyler Bertuzzi. What would it require for the Stars to add these guys? What do they bring to the table? Would the moves be worth it?

It’s no secret that the Dallas Stars are hoping to improve their blue line this offseason. Unfortunately, the options for free agent defensemen aren’t necessarily great. However, the Vancouver Canucks just added another name to this list after they bought-out Oliver Ekman-Larsson. OEL is now a free agent and can sign with any NHL club on July 1st. Today, Dane dives into the pros and cons of pursuing a player like Ekman-Larsson. He may not cost a lot, but is he worth taking a risk on? Are there better options out there?
