Locked On Stars - Daily Podcast On The Dallas Stars

Alex DeBrincat is on his way out of Ottawa and the Dallas Stars are on a list of teams that he (allegedly) would be interested in joining for the upcoming season. Today, Dane dissects the pros and cons of adding a player of DeBrincat’s caliber. Would it even be possible with the Stars cap situation? Which line would he play on? Would adding him to the team solve Dallas’ biggest issues?

He was a driving force on offense and defense and he’s given Stars fans plenty to cheer about and likely will for years to come. Today Dane breaks down Miro’s season and how he can improve for his next outing.

With the NHL offseason there comes several different trades that send players to new teams and cities. One of the hottest names on the market right now is San Jose Sharks defenseman Erik Karlsson. Karlsson finished the 2022-2023 season with 101 points and will would make for a fine addition to any team looking to add depth to their blue line. Today, Dane dives into what a trade for Karlsson may look like for the Dallas Stars. What would be the benefits? Would there be any concerns? Is it even possible with Karlsson’s $11.5 million cap hit?

The NHL offseason is in it’s early days, but that won’t stop us from speculating about the season the Dallas Stars will have in 2023-2024. Today Dane takes a look at the favorites (odds via FanDuel) to win the Stanley Cup next year. The Stars come in with the 10th best odds. Is this a good projection? With the offseason also comes trade speculations and the Winnipeg Jets could be looking to move several of their key players before their contracts expire. Should the Stars pursue any players from the Jets? To close, Dane asks and answers the question “should the Stars seek ti acquire a 1st round pick in the upcoming draft?”

The NHL season has officially come to an end with the Vegas Golden Knights defeating the Florida Panthers in five games in the Stanley Cup Final. While the Stars had a great season, there is plenty they can learn from both the participants of the final round of the playoffs. Today, Dane discusses how the Stars are the true runners up of the playoffs and how they can find future success if they can replicate certain aspects of the Golden Knight’s roster.

Today, Dane dives into Mason Marchment’s first season as a member of the Dallas Stars. Marchment was thought to be the perfect fit for the Stars as they needed a top-six forward to slot in beside Tyler Seguin. While Mush presented flashes of his potential in victory green, it’s fair to say his Texas Hockey debut was far from ideal. Plenty of obstacles presented themselves on and off the ice and many of them were beyond Marchment’s control. Dane discusses how Mason can bounce back and be a key player for the Stars next season on today’s show.

Today, Dane dives into Roope Hintz and his 2022-2023 season. The ‘Ace of Spades’ had another excellent campaign that saw him score 75 points in 73 games played. He also went all out in the postseason and was a huge reason for the Stars success in rounds one and two. One of the few knocks against Hintz is he has yet to play a full 82 game season. Should Stars fans be concerned about the long-term health of Hintz, or will the problems work themselves out as time passes?

Today’s episode brings you the fourth episode of our 2022-2023 Dallas Stars season evaluation series. Today Dane talks all about the Stars captain, Jamie Benn. Benn has endured heavy criticism over the last few seasons, but he seems to have silenced many doubters after putting up 78 points last season.
