Make Story Time Fun for Special Ed & Autism

Listen Later

Are you looking for ways to make story time for fun your special education and autism students? Do they lose interest? Or are they struggling to pay attention to you while you’re reading a story?

Maybe you’re lost. You want your students to love reading and listening to stories. But, you don’t know how to do it or where to get started.

In this episode today on my teaching autism and special education community podcast, I’m discussing all of these. I’m going to discuss and help you to make story time fun for your students. We’ll unearth some of the most common barriers that students may face during story time.

Plus, I’m sharing with you how I teach story time and nursery rhymes to my students. Including with a fun and interactive sensory story approach – that you can use with almost any picture book!

If you’re part of my mailing list, earlier this year you would have received a free sensory story leaflet to use with a Christmas story. And this is definitely something that I want to do more of. So, if you haven’t signed up yet, head on over and sign up to be on my mailing list now.

In this episode, I discuss the sensory story that I did for a book called SuperKid. You can find this in most book stores or on Amazon (aff. link) here.

How do you make reading and story time fun for your students?

Do you have any tips or engaging activities that you can share with us? Just leave a comment below!

If you want to see me do a video of how I do these activities in my classroom, leave a comment below or send me an email at [email protected] – if you guys really want to see them in action, I’ll do a YouTube video and Instagram live so you can see exactly how I use them to teach my students.

Thanks for listening, don’t forget to head on over to iTunes and leave us a review. We love having you tune in with us every week.
