Maroon 5 and James Valentine, E-cigarette Epidemic, The College Bound Organizer

Listen Later

Important conversations and encouraging words to help you make every day a great one.
Just Eggs (00:00)
Eggs, packed with protein, are easy-to-make morning boosters. You can scramble them, fry them, or wrap them up inside a warm tortilla. But a company called Just says that they’ve made an egg that is better for your health. And they didn’t need a chicken to do it.
We learned from Fast Company that Just has discovered an alternative to plain eggs. By grinding up mung beans, little green beans from southeast Asia, with a few other ingredients and scrambling them in a pan, they can replace farmed eggs with something that tastes just like an egg. They call it Just Egg.
Joining us on the show is Josh Tetrick, the CEO of Just. Just is formerly known as Hampton Creek, a food technology company that started in San Francisco. For more information about the company you can visit Justforall.com.
Maroon 5 and James Valentine (14:27)
James Valentine is the lead guitarist for the band Maroon 5. He and Lisa talk about his experiences as a member of a hit band.
E-Cigarette Epidemic (51:07)
There’s a new epidemic in the United States, and as of 2017, more than 2 million teenagers are involved. They’re using e-cigarettes, otherwise known as vaping. Recently, the FDA created a new education campaign to warn teens about the risks of vaping. It is an extension of the “Real Cost Youth E-Cigarette Prevention Campaign.” It will also place warning ads in 10,000 high school bathrooms across the country.
Dr. Vaughan Rees joins us today to discuss this epidemic and ways that we can spread awareness. Dr. Rees is the Director of the Center for Global Tobacco Control and a Lecturer on Social and Behavioral Sciences at the Harvard Chan School of Public Health.
The College Bound Organizer (1:07:04)
Some parents start applying their children to college while they are in pre-school. But most parents don’t know the first thing about college applications. Currently, thousands of seniors in high schools across America, are slowly coming to the realization that they need to start applying to colleges. Today we have Anna Costaras and Gail Liss, the writers of The College Bound Organizer, as they share with us the secrets of how between their two families, they successfully sent six children to college.
Theater Thursday (1:24:59)
In Twelfth Night, Shakespeare writes, “Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them.” And his plays themselves are great whether that greatness is natural, achieved, or forced. Shakespeare is arguably one of the most famous and important figure in the fine arts so today we are speaking with Fred Adams, founder of the successful Utah Shakespeare Festival, about theatre and the impact it has in our lives.
