Matt was born in Pennsylvania, but lives in Colorado most of the time.
He is an author, entrepreneur and martial artist.
He graduated from Penn State with a degree in writing and natural science in 2006.
He started his blog in 2008 and started his own company, Apsos Media, in 2009
He also started Apsos Publishing in 2015 to publish his own works, and to help other martial
artists publish theirs.

Matthew Apsokardu began his study of Okinawa Kenpo Karate and Kobudo in 1995 and has supplemented that training with Japanese swordsmanship and Shobayashi Ryu Karatedo. Matthew was an early blogger in the martial arts space and published “Tales from the Western Generation“, which includes over 30 interviews with some of America’s most senior karate practitioners.

Matthew is a respected researcher and historian in karate do and has contributed articles to a variety of publications exploring the roots and practice of Okinawan martial arts.
