In Part 1 of my conversation with Katie Watson, we dive into PMDD (Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder)—what it is, why so many people still don’t know about it, and why awareness matters.
Katie shares her personal journey, from experiencing severe cyclical depression and being misdiagnosed, to discovering the link between her symptoms and her menstrual cycle through tracking. Katie and I also discuss how PMDD differs from PMS, the possible connection with ADHD, and the gaps that still exist in medical education around menstrual health.
We also touch on some of the strategies that have helped Katie manage symptoms, including stress management, building a support network, and making changes to nutrition and lifestyle.
Katie also shares the exciting news that PMDD is being added to the medical syllabus at Queen’s University—a huge step forward for awareness and future care.
