  • Embrace The Chaos: The Myth of Tyche EP - 124

In today's episode, I'm diving into the lessons of Tyche, the Greek goddess of luck and fortune, and what her story can teach entrepreneurs. Tyche isn't your typical fairy godmother sprinkling magic dust. She represents the unpredictable chaos of life—the ups, the downs, and the curveballs you never see coming. Her presence is a reminder that life doesn't come with guarantees, and success isn't handed out. You have to be ready for when fortune rolls your way, and that means preparation, adaptability, and hustle.

The first lesson Tyche offers is that luck favors the prepared. If you think success is about sitting around waiting for your big break, you're wrong. Every "lucky break" I've had in my career came because I was ready to grab it. I had put in the hours, sharpened my skills, and created the conditions for opportunity to find me. That's what separates those who succeed from those who don't—the willingness to stay ready for when luck shows up. The second lesson is to embrace the chaos. Business isn't predictable, and expecting things to go exactly as planned is setting yourself up for disappointment. Instead, learn to pivot, adapt, and use the unpredictability to your advantage.

Finally, Tyche teaches us to make our own luck. Waiting for the perfect moment or a magical opportunity won't get you anywhere. You have to take risks, put yourself out there, and bet on your ability to create success. Tyche smiles on those who hustle and make bold moves. So, as you navigate the twists and turns of entrepreneurship, remember: life may be chaotic and unpredictable, but that's where the potential lies. Prepare, embrace the chaos, and go out there to make your own fortune. Tyche's wheel is always turning—stay ready, and fortune will follow.

  • Protecting From Frauds And Freeloaders EP - 123

Today, we're diving into a topic that resonates with every entrepreneur: protecting your time, energy, and resources while building meaningful relationships. As success grows, so does the influx of people wanting to connect—but not always for the right reasons. I've learned to navigate this by setting clear boundaries and being upfront about agendas before any meeting or collaboration. This isn't paranoia; it's diligence. When you value your time and make decisions based on mutual benefit, you eliminate the freeloaders and create space for genuine partnerships that drive progress.

One of the keys to avoiding unproductive relationships is knowing how to filter intentions. Asking direct questions and prioritizing meetings with clear agendas has been a game-changer for me. It's not about being rude; it's about respecting your time and theirs. Freeloaders often reveal themselves by wasting your time or lacking anything of value to offer. As business leaders, we only have so much capacity each day, so every meeting, call, or email needs to align with our goals. If it doesn't, I've learned it's okay to say no and focus on what truly matters.

Networking and collaboration are essential, but they need to be approached strategically. I've noticed that the most impactful connections come from people who are curious and interested in building something together—not those just flaunting success or seeking a handout. Whether it's avoiding unnecessary meetings, asking thoughtful questions, or being intentional about who I spend time with, these practices have helped me protect my focus and ensure that every interaction leads to growth and mutual benefit.

  • How do you attract and retain top talent? | Medical Monday - Ep 122

Recruiting top-tier talent isn't just about attracting people—it's about actively seeking them out and creating an environment where they want to stay. In this episode, I share how my team and I go beyond simply posting job ads. We actively search for the right candidates on platforms like Indeed and connect with people who are eager for a better opportunity—especially in the medical field, where many professionals feel undervalued and stuck. By fostering a culture of teamwork, family, and respect, and paying our staff significantly more than the industry standard, we've built a company where people thrive. Add to that performance-based bonuses and commissions, and our team members know their hard work truly pays off.

Our success in recruiting doesn't stop at offering competitive salaries and bonuses. We go further by aligning with our staff's goals and dreams. It's simple: if your company's vision can support their personal aspirations, they'll stay and grow with you. We consistently have open conversations with our team to understand their ambitions and create pathways for them to achieve those goals within our organization. This approach has allowed us to retain incredible talent—from medical assistants earning nearly double the national average to clinic directors making six figures with four-day workweeks. By creating opportunities for growth, we've built a team that's as invested in our success as we are in theirs.

Finally, we look for talent in local schools and even among competitors. Partnering with educational institutions allows us to bring in students for clinicals, giving us a chance to train and evaluate them before offering them positions. And yes, we aren't afraid to recruit from competitors who fail to treat their staff like family. Our culture is built on support, understanding, and the belief that every team member matters. We're proud to have created a workplace where people feel valued, rewarded, and truly at home—because when you treat your staff right, they'll help you win every time.

  • Big Price, Big Payoff - EP 121

In today's episode, I want to revisit a topic that comes up time and time again when I talk to entrepreneurs—or anyone, really—who's nervous about paying a big price. Whether it's a financial investment, a major time commitment, or sheer effort, I see so many people hesitate when the stakes are high. Maybe it's an entrepreneur unsure about spending money on equipment or marketing, someone hesitant to hire a personal trainer for their health, or a dreamer holding back on pursuing a career because of the cost of education. Here's the truth: in life, nothing truly worthwhile comes without a price. Success, whether in business, fitness, or relationships, always demands an investment, be it time, money, or effort.

As an entrepreneur, I've faced my share of those "holy shit" moments. I vividly remember the day I came across a mastermind group designed to help entrepreneurs scale their businesses and improve their performance. I knew it could be a game-changer, but the price tag? $50,000. At the time, my wife and I had saved $100,000—our life savings—and I was contemplating spending half of it on something I'd never even heard of before. With my wife's encouragement, I decided to take the leap. That investment in the Arete Syndicate became the foundation of everything I've built since then. It introduced me to invaluable lessons, a network of high-level people, and even my business partner, Brent. The payoff wasn't just financial—it transformed my mindset, skills, and opportunities.

What I've learned is this: paying a big price often leads to a big payoff. But it's not just about writing a check or signing up—it's about committing to the work that follows. The value of an investment lies in what you're willing to do with it. If you evaluate the opportunity, see its potential, and resolve to work relentlessly to maximize it, then paying the price isn't just something to accept—it's something to embrace. Success requires sacrifice, but those sacrifices pave the way for results that are worth every penny, every hour, and every ounce of effort you put in. So, don't fear the cost—embrace the journey it unlocks.

  • How I Scaled Genesis Lifestyle Medicine - Ep 119

In this episode, I reflect on my journey from working in government and urgent care to becoming a thriving entrepreneur in the medical business space. After graduating from medical residency in 2016, I envisioned a straightforward path: 20 years in government, retire with a pension, then do it again with another employer. But two years in, I realized the monotony wasn't for me. Inspired by entrepreneurship podcasts, books, and groups like the Arete Syndicate, I shifted my focus to building a business. This led me to meet my now-business partner, Brent Messer, who shared my vision for creating something groundbreaking in the medical field.

Together, we built Genesis Lifestyle Medicine, starting with a single clinic in Las Vegas. I quit my jobs, moved my family, and fully committed to the venture. Initially focused on stem cells and regenerative therapies, we quickly expanded into anti-aging, hormone therapy, weight loss, and more. We aligned on core values, mission, vision, and standard operating procedures to ensure consistent growth and scalability. One of our key strategies was adopting what we call the "Chick-fil-A model," giving equity to pivotal team members to ensure their commitment and incentivize their success alongside ours. This approach allowed us to scale rapidly and maintain alignment across multiple locations.

Over time, we learned that acquisitions offered a faster and more efficient growth model than building clinics from scratch. By acquiring existing businesses, integrating our core values, and applying our systems, we scaled exponentially. Now, we're transitioning into B2B ventures, owning companies that supply our clinics with essential products and services. This evolution has helped us expand our impact and diversify our operations, setting the stage for even greater success in the medical industry. Tune in to hear more about our journey, the lessons we've learned, and strategies for scaling your business to new heights.

  • Laser Focus - EP 118

In this episode, I share two stories that illustrate the power of laser focus and how it defines the way successful people operate. The first story comes from a preacher I listened to with my wife, about a little girl learning to ride a bike. Her focus on safety led to an unforgettable moment involving unexpected nudist cyclists—a hilarious yet profound example of seeing the world through the lens of your priorities. The second story is about a friend and business partner of mine, whose subconscious focus on his work led to a laugh-out-loud moment over a drink menu, reminding me how successful people consistently channel their energy and thoughts toward their goals.

Laser focus isn't just about being locked in; it's about aligning your thoughts and actions with a deeper purpose. It's not driven by money or external rewards but by a relentless drive to maximize your potential until your last breath. This mindset requires more than a one-time decision; it demands daily renewal and commitment. Whether through visualization, purpose statements, or any method that keeps you connected to your vision, you have to cultivate and sustain this focus. It's not just a natural talent—it's a disciplined approach to work, results, and self-improvement.

As I close, I reflect on the connection between the Medusa myth and the power of focus. Medusa's gaze could turn even the most powerful beings into stone, and in the business world, that kind of unwavering focus has the potential to stop anything in its tracks and achieve extraordinary results. If you want to know how to channel this power, stay tuned for insights on how to hone your mindset and drive your success forward with unstoppable determination.

  • Turning One-Star Reviews Into Five-Star Opportunities | Medical Monday - Ep 116

Customer complaints can feel like a headache, but they're actually golden opportunities to turn dissatisfied individuals into lifelong brand ambassadors. I've seen firsthand how addressing one-star experiences with care and solutions can transform frustrated customers into loyal fans. On this episode, I break down how I approach complaints across multiple locations. It all starts with accountability—getting the full picture from both the team and the customer before crafting a solution. When handled well, those initial complaints often turn into glowing five-star reviews and powerful word-of-mouth for your business.

I also share the importance of training managers to handle these situations effectively. From gathering the clinic team's perspective to contacting the customer directly, it's about teaching leaders how to navigate challenges calmly and professionally. Sometimes, this includes joining a three-way call to guide the conversation, ensuring that everyone feels heard and a resolution is reached. Whether it's offering a refund, adding extra value, or just showing empathy, most complaints can be resolved positively—leaving customers impressed by how you handled the situation.

Of course, not every complaint will end with a happy customer. Some one-star reviews come from people you just can't please, no matter what you do. In those cases, it's fine to respond politely, acknowledge their feedback, and move on. You can't win over everyone, but focusing on your loyal supporters and improving your processes will always yield better results. This episode dives into the strategies we use to tackle reviews across multiple locations and turn potential setbacks into wins for our business.

  • Swag Not Self-Obsessed - EP 115

As entrepreneurs, we all want to win. We want to crush it in business, take home the biggest checks, and feel like the baddest person in the room. But here's the truth: winning isn't just about confidence. Yes, confidence gets you in the door—it's the swagger that drives risks and bold moves. But if you don't balance that confidence with humility, you risk crashing and burning. Today, I'm sharing how to strike the perfect balance between the two so you can build a sustainable, successful business without letting arrogance derail your progress.

Confidence is essential—it's the fuel that drives action. It's what gave me the guts to start my first business and what helped me believe I could create something great. But confidence unchecked can turn into arrogance. I've made my fair share of mistakes, from hiring the wrong people to ignoring feedback because I thought I knew better. Those mistakes didn't sink me because I was willing to learn, listen, and adjust. That's where humility came in—it reminded me that I didn't get here alone and that every win was built on the support of my team, mentors, and even hard lessons learned.

Balancing confidence and humility is the key to long-term success. Confidence gets you moving forward, while humility keeps you grounded and growing. You need the self-belief to take risks but the humility to acknowledge your flaws and seek help when needed. It's about walking into a room with enough swagger to say, "I'm here because I'm good," but enough humility to recognize, "I didn't do this alone." Whether it's building your team, learning from failure, or staying grounded in your journey, this balance will set you apart and keep you winning. Tune in for more on how to master this mindset and take your business—and life—to the next level.
