  • Ruthlessness - Ep 94

Welcome to The Spinoso Podcast. Today, I want to talk about what it means to be ruthless in business. Now, the dictionary defines "ruthless" as having no pity, merciless, or cruel, but I don't quite agree with that when it comes to business. If being ruthless means holding people accountable and enforcing the consequences of their actions based on facts rather than feelings, then yes, you absolutely need to be ruthless. As a leader, it's essential to distinguish between a mistake and a breach of integrity. In the latter case, being ruthless isn't about cruelty—it's about protecting your business.

Ruthlessness also means having zero tolerance for unethical behavior. If someone attacks your business, there's no room for mercy. As I was once told, "Carry a big stick." You need to make an example of those who try to undermine you, sometimes publicly, to send a clear message. This isn't vengeance—it's justice. Protecting your business and your people requires a level of ruthlessness, and if that's what it takes, then I'm ruthless. It's all about ensuring that your business is safe from harm, while maintaining ethical standards.

At the end of the day, being accused of ruthlessness is often a misunderstanding of what it means to be relentless. True entrepreneurs are serious about their work, their goals, and their success. We don't waste time with distractions, and we're not here to play games. We focus on building something real, and that seriousness is often mistaken for ruthlessness. But in reality, we're simply committed to excellence. And remember, as the saying goes, "Gods don't worry about the opinions of insects." Thanks for tuning in, and let's dive into what it truly takes to protect and build your business.

Welcome to The Spinoso Podcast hosted by CEO, doctor, comic book geek, and car guy, Alex Spinoso. I help people and companies grow - especially in the medical business. While my experience and expertise is in scaling all types of medical businesses to 7, 8, 9-figures or more, I can be a mentor to anyone who wants to take ownership of their lives, become a better leader at home and at work, and overcome any obstacle that stands in their way.

  • Mastering SEO, Ads, and Local Outreach for Explosive Growth | Medical Monday - Ep 92

First up, we're tackling SEO (Search Engine Optimization). SEO isn't dead—far from it! In fact, if your clinic isn't showing up as the top search result when someone Googles a service you offer, you're missing out on a massive chunk of potential clients. I'll break down how local and global SEO strategies can help your clinic rank number one on Google and why you should invest in a high-quality website that pays off in the long run.

Next, we'll move on to paid ads—Google and Facebook ads, to be specific. Yes, we spend over a quarter-million dollars monthly on these platforms, and here's why: when done right, ads bring in a ton of qualified leads. I'll walk you through the key differences between search-based ads (Google) and social-based ads (Facebook), and why being LegitScript certified can make or break your ad campaigns in the medical field.

Finally, I'll go over the importance of organic social media and local outreach. How can you consistently educate your audience and create content that builds trust? And how can you leverage local community ties to boost your reputation without breaking the bank on marketing? I've got practical tips and real-life examples to help you strengthen your local presence while also growing your online influence.

So, whether you're a one-clinic operation or part of a multi-location chain, there's something in here for everyone. By the end of this episode, you'll have a roadmap for growing your medical business using proven digital strategies. If this episode helps you in any way, be sure to like, share, and subscribe. And as always, I value your feedback, so don't hesitate to reach out and let me know what topics you'd like to hear more about on the podcast!

  • Gods Don't Care What Insects Think Of Them - Ep 91

In today's episode, I'm tackling a question I occasionally get from young entrepreneurs: "How do I handle competitors talking trash?" Before we dive into that, let me set the stage with a thought experiment about Howard Isley, a decent but average NBA player, compared to the legendary Michael Jordan. The point is clear—winners like Jordan don't care what losers think. They're focused on their game, their vision, and their success.

The reality is that when you build something undeniably great, the truth will speak louder than any petty trash talk. Those one-star reviews or competitors spreading false narratives? They won't matter when your business is backed by thousands of five-star reviews and loyal customers. Winners don't engage in the dirt with losers; they keep their eye on the prize and let their success silence the noise.

So, what should you do when your competition tries to pull you down? The answer is simple: ignore them. Focus on building a company so excellent that no one can deny its greatness. Like Michael Jordan, who didn't waste time worrying about lesser players' opinions, you should focus on controlling what you can—your vision, your integrity, and your execution.

  • 4 Mistakes Medical Business Owners Make - Ep 90

In this episode, I dive into the hard truth about the disconnect between being a great medical provider and being an effective business owner. The reality is, most doctors—and I include myself in this—think we know everything because of our rigorous medical training. That confidence, or even arrogance, can work in the clinic when it comes to diagnosing and treating patients, but it doesn't translate to running a business. Doctors, chiropractors, nurse practitioners, and dentists often assume they'll figure it out because they're smart, but smart doesn't always mean savvy. The overthinking that helps us solve medical problems often leads to paralysis in business, where you have to move fast, make mistakes, and learn as you go.

One of the biggest mistakes I see is doctors building their practices around themselves, slapping their name on the door and spending money on how their clinic looks instead of on marketing or enhancing client experience. It's a costly error because if you ever want to step away, your entire practice relies on you being there. To scale, you have to step back from being the face of the business, learn to trust and hire experts in areas like accounting and marketing, and focus on growing the business itself. Early on, I thought I could juggle it all—seeing patients, doing the books, handling marketing—but that only stretches you thin and guarantees something will suffer.

At the end of the day, it's all about leveraging the right people and being relentless in your pursuit of growth. I've learned through trial and error that you need to surround yourself with experts who can handle what you're not trained for, like financials and marketing, so you can focus on leading. It's not about doing it all yourself, but rather guiding the right team so your business can thrive without you in the clinic every day. There's no balance at the start—it's all in, all the time—but that's the price of building something great.

  • How We Grew Our Clinic Without Losing Control | Medical Monday - Ep 89

In this episode, I tackle a great question I received while speaking at a BTL event: "How do you know you're ready to expand to new locations?" Brent and I learned the hard way that expanding too quickly across multiple states wasn't the best approach. If we could do it again, we would focus on saturating our first clinic, expanding only when it couldn't grow any further.

I share key insights on scaling efficiently, the risks of over-expansion, and how to strategically choose a second location. It's not about just finding new patients, but about selecting the right area where clients want your services and have the means to pay. We also dive into why smaller clinics with fewer employees can be more manageable and profitable, avoiding the headaches of mega-clinics.

Lastly, I talk about the importance of maintaining core values in new locations, even if that means making tough decisions like letting go of staff who don't align. It's all about creating a strong foundation that allows you to grow sustainably while staying true to your mission.

Welcome to The Spinoso Podcast hosted by CEO, doctor, comic book geek, and car guy, Alex Spinoso. I help people and companies grow - especially in the medical business. • Do What You Love - Ep 88

Look, I know. I get it. "Do what you love" is advice we've all heard before, and even though I've made some funny reels mocking it, hear me out. It's not that the advice is totally wrong—because yeah, if you're miserable doing what you do, it's hard to succeed. But here's the thing: it's not just about doing what you love. In fact, that mindset can kill your business if you're not careful.

Sure, I love parts of being a medical entrepreneur—changing lives at Genesis Lifestyle Medicine, getting those amazing messages from people who say we've made a difference, and helping men improve their health and relationships. But making your business all about you can lead to self-centeredness, just like how "You do you" gets taken too far.

I believe in being a good person and trying to live with purpose. And one day, my pastor quoted a book called The Purpose Driven Life, which starts with four powerful words: "It's not about you." That simple phrase shifted my entire mindset—because in business, it's not about you. It's about your client and what they love.

I could love the idea of selling superhero-themed products, but if my clients think it's ridiculous, I wouldn't sell a single one. The same applies to your business—if you're struggling, maybe you're focusing too much on what you love instead of what your clients love. The key to success is asking the right questions: What does my client want, need, or love?

Take Steve Jobs, for example. Apple's success wasn't about his personal tech preferences—it was about creating products that people loved, with a focus on design and user experience. That's why Apple is valued at over $3 trillion today. So remember: it's not about you. It's about them.

  • Our Quarterly Corporate Event Was Crazy - Ep 87

On today's episode, we're diving into a topic that's a blend of pure excitement and, let's be real, a total headache—our quarterly events. But I have to say, I absolutely love them. Every time we do these, they completely fill our cup, and the energy from everyone who attends is incredible. We recently wrapped up our Q3 event, and let me tell you, the amount of time, energy, and resources that go into planning these is no joke. But it's 100% worth it.

Today, I want to share how these events have played a massive role in building the culture at Genesis and how implementing something similar could benefit any company. Whether you're just starting out or looking to scale, this could be a game-changer for you. We started this whole process when we were launching into the EOS model—the Entrepreneurial Operating System. They recommend getting your execs in the same room quarterly to go over key performance indicators (KPIs), core values, opportunities, and issues. So, back in January of last year, we held our first meeting in Las Vegas, and it's grown so much since then.

From the 13 people representing a handful of locations in that first meeting to the 40-plus we had at our most recent one, it's wild to see how far we've come. These events are now a space where our leaders can share what's working in their clinics, learn from each other, and collaborate on ideas that drive the entire company forward. It's honestly so rewarding to watch.

It's a lot of work, but it's all about creating that strong company culture and making sure everyone feels connected, even when we're spread across the country. So if you're thinking about scaling your business, or even just bringing your team closer together, tune in—we've got a lot to share.

  • Mastering Supply Chain Efficiency | Medical Monday - Ep 86

In this episode, we'll dive into optimizing your supply chain across multiple locations—a crucial topic for any growing business. I share how we established standard operating procedures for ordering, which streamlined processes as our business expanded. One of the key steps was going directly to vendors and negotiating for a corporate representative, making the ordering process seamless across all locations. I provide an example of how we worked with Allergan to solve issues with multiple reps, leading to a unified system that improved efficiency and reduced errors.

You'll also hear about the importance of inventory management, with weekly checks ensuring each clinic has everything needed to operate smoothly. I emphasize how, as your business grows, you'll want to negotiate vendor pricing, but remember—you can't save your way to success. It's all about smart selling and scaling while keeping costs down.

  • Ancient Myths For Overachievers: Prometheus - Ep 85

In this episode, I dive into my love for Greek and Roman mythology, following up on my earlier discussion of Arete and its relevance for modern entrepreneurs. If you haven't listened to that yet, go check it out first! But if you're ready to jump in, today I'll be breaking down the myth of Prometheus—one of my favorites. This story is packed with powerful lessons for anyone looking to succeed at a high level in business and life.

Prometheus wasn't just another Titan; he cared about humans and defied Zeus to bring fire to mankind. That bold move transformed civilization and showed us what it means to risk it all for the greater good. But it also shows us the consequences of standing up against powerful forces—something many of us face in the business world.

I share how Prometheus' courage and sacrifice are valuable metaphors for anyone looking to disrupt their industry and bring meaningful change. As an entrepreneur, you'll face challenges, opposition, and people who don't want you to succeed—just like Prometheus did. But if you care about making a difference, the struggle is always worth it.

I also touch on some personal stories, discussing how my business partner and I have faced unexpected obstacles while trying to transform the medical entrepreneurship space. If you want to learn more about building a company with integrity and breaking free from the status quo, this episode is for you.

Be like Prometheus. Be a disruptor. Care about people, and don't be afraid to stand up to the "gods" in your industry. Let's steal fire and change the world together.
