Welcome to The Spinoso Podcast. Today, I want to talk about what it means to be ruthless in business. Now, the dictionary defines "ruthless" as having no pity, merciless, or cruel, but I don't quite agree with that when it comes to business. If being ruthless means holding people accountable and enforcing the consequences of their actions based on facts rather than feelings, then yes, you absolutely need to be ruthless. As a leader, it's essential to distinguish between a mistake and a breach of integrity. In the latter case, being ruthless isn't about cruelty—it's about protecting your business.
Ruthlessness also means having zero tolerance for unethical behavior. If someone attacks your business, there's no room for mercy. As I was once told, "Carry a big stick." You need to make an example of those who try to undermine you, sometimes publicly, to send a clear message. This isn't vengeance—it's justice. Protecting your business and your people requires a level of ruthlessness, and if that's what it takes, then I'm ruthless. It's all about ensuring that your business is safe from harm, while maintaining ethical standards.
At the end of the day, being accused of ruthlessness is often a misunderstanding of what it means to be relentless. True entrepreneurs are serious about their work, their goals, and their success. We don't waste time with distractions, and we're not here to play games. We focus on building something real, and that seriousness is often mistaken for ruthlessness. But in reality, we're simply committed to excellence. And remember, as the saying goes, "Gods don't worry about the opinions of insects." Thanks for tuning in, and let's dive into what it truly takes to protect and build your business.
