  • Lessons Learned From Fiction - Ep 84

In this episode, I dive into my lifelong connection with Superman and the profound life and business lessons I've learned from that connection. I'll share the story of how my passion for Superman developed during a pivotal moment in high school when a devastating injury sidelined me from competitive soccer, and how my grandfather's belief in me reignited my own self-belief. We'll talk about how Superman became a symbol of resilience and overcoming obstacles in my life. I'll also explore how those lessons translate into entrepreneurship—leading, inspiring others when they can't find belief in themselves, and the relentless mindset it takes to push forward as a business owner.

We'll also switch gears to a fun and surprising topic: Bluey! My kids are obsessed with this Australian cartoon, and it turns out there are some pretty powerful work-life lessons hidden in the episodes that resonate with entrepreneurs and parents alike. From teamwork to learning the value of money, Bluey offers a refreshing look at how play and imagination can spark real-world skills.

We'll also look into some of the most memorable stories and characters from films and plays that have stuck with me throughout the years. First up, Chicago—a musical where each character's story of survival, deception, and the infamous "Razzle Dazzle" reminds me of how in both life and business, it's often less about the details and more about how you present yourself. Whether it's in a courtroom or the boardroom, when you deliver the "Razzle Dazzle," you can capture attention and leave a lasting impression.

I also discuss Big Fish, a beautifully told story that highlights the incredible importance of storytelling. The main character's wild and unbelievable tales resonate with me, as it encourages living a life full of diverse experiences, making the most out of every opportunity. I've always aspired to be a renaissance person, trying everything and leaving nothing on the table when my time comes. It's about leaving behind stories so grand, people might not believe them, but they're real—and that's the legacy I aim for.

From Santa Claus to the Tooth Fairy, I reflect on the mythological figures we introduce to our children. Some offer valuable lessons, while others, like the terrifying Leprechaun and eerie Tooth Fairy, might make us rethink what we're teaching. Through it all, we unpack lessons of connection, absurdity, and the importance of living authentically—just like the Grinch, who showed us that people can surprise you with their inherent goodness.

Welcome to The Spinoso Podcast hosted by CEO, doctor, comic book geek, and car guy, Alex Spinoso. I help people and companies grow - especially in the medical business. While my experience and expertise is in scaling all types of medical businesses to 7, 8, 9-figures or more, I can be a mentor to anyone who wants to take ownership of their lives, become a better leader at home and at work, and overcome any obstacle that stands in their way.

  • Secrets to Building Repeat Business and Lifelong Customers | Medical Monday - Ep 83

In this episode, I'm going to share with you the strategies that have truly transformed how we generate customer loyalty and repeat business across all of my businesses. These strategies are rooted in what I call the Loyalty Circle, a concept I learned from my good friend, Andy Frisella, who runs a $2 billion company. We use this framework in everything we do.

The Loyalty Circle is simple, yet powerful. Imagine a circle split in half. On the right side, you have everything most businesses do up until the point when someone buys your service—things like marketing, consultations, and education. That education piece is crucial because most clinics and medical providers fail to take the time to truly explain the benefits of their products or services. But by educating your clients, you establish trust and make sure they understand why your solution is tailored specifically to them.

Now, the left side of the circle is where the magic happens—this is what most businesses overlook. It's all about what you do after the sale. For example, follow up within 24 hours, celebrate the client's decision to work with you, and show them that the process has already begun. Whether it's a B12 shot for a weight-loss patient or a tour of the clinic for someone seeking erectile dysfunction treatment, getting them started immediately helps prevent buyer's remorse and builds confidence in their investment.

Big companies, like the telehealth brands ROE and Hims, understand this model well. Their valuation isn't based on profitability—it's based on the number of users they recruit and retain. The same principle applies to your business. The more you focus on building loyalty and generating referrals, the more valuable your business becomes.

  • Ancient Myths For Overachievers - Ep 82

In this episode, I dive into one of my favorite topics: storytelling, with a focus on ancient myths and the killer lessons they offer for entrepreneurs. If you've listened to me before, you know I love stories, whether it's from movies like Braveheart and Gladiator, comics like Superman and Batman, or even Broadway hits like West Side Story and Phantom of the Opera. But today, we're diving into something different—ancient Greek and Roman myths, and the powerful lessons they hold for overachievers like you.

The myth I want to focus on today is that of Daedalus and Icarus. It's not just a cool story about a father and son with wings—it's a profound tale that speaks directly to those who are striving for greatness in business and life. I'll explore the deeper meaning of the myth and talk about why it's so relevant for entrepreneurs. You'll hear how I apply these timeless lessons to stay consistent, find balance, and avoid the common pitfalls that can come with success.

Plus, I'll introduce the concept of the "golden mean"—the idea that we should avoid flying too close to the sun or sinking too low in our setbacks. If you want to stay on top, achieve lasting success, and avoid burning out, this episode is for you. Tune in to discover how ancient myths can help you navigate modern challenges and lead you to long-term success in both business and life.

  • How To Not Murder Your Business Partner - Ep 81

In today's episode, I want to dive into the complexities of managing different personality types in business, a topic I've had years of experience with. Whether you've been in business for five years or much longer, you've likely encountered a wide range of personalities that make up your team. Today, we'll explore not just how to manage these diverse personalities effectively but also how to create an environment where each individual feels fulfilled and happy in their role. We'll start by discussing the dynamic between my business partner, Brent Messer, and me, and how our contrasting personalities have played a significant role in our success at Genesis.

When Brent Messer and I first began working together five years ago, we were on opposite ends of the spectrum in almost every way. While he's the visionary CEO with big ideas and a laid-back approach, I'm the go-getter who's constantly on the move, eager to implement and execute plans. This difference, while challenging at times, has actually been one of our greatest strengths. We've learned to balance each other out, with me becoming more analytical and patient, and Brent learning to make quicker decisions when needed. Our contrasting styles have allowed us to complement each other in ways that make our partnership not just functional but truly effective.

However, it's not just about finding balance between partners; it's about understanding the unique strengths of every team member. In business, there's often a misconception that the best employees are the aggressive, extroverted go-getters. While these individuals excel in roles like sales and marketing, more introverted or relaxed team members also play crucial roles, particularly in customer service or back-end operations. The key is placing people in roles that align with their strengths and ensuring that your company culture supports growth, accountability, and innovation. By understanding what makes each person tick, you can build a team that not only works efficiently but also thrives together.

  • Transitioning Patient Follow-Ups to Your Support Team Without Losing Quality Care | Medical Monday - Ep 80

In this episode, I'm diving into a crucial aspect of scaling your medical practice: transitioning patient follow-ups from the provider to other staff, like RNs or support teams. One of the biggest bottlenecks clinics face is the belief that the provider needs to see every single patient, every single time. While the provider does need to see the patient initially and sign off on treatments, it's not necessary for them to handle every follow-up in person.

I will walk you through how we set expectations from the start at Genesis Lifestyle Medicine. Patients interact with various team members—front desk staff, clinic directors, and sales teams—before the provider steps in to review their case. This approach allows the provider to focus on critical aspects of care while ensuring the patient is well taken care of by a trained support team.

We'll also explore asynchronous visits, where non-controlled substances are involved, and the provider can review the patient's chart and approve treatment without a face-to-face visit. This method is particularly effective in areas like weight loss therapy, where follow-ups can be managed by support staff, with the provider stepping in only when necessary.

  • Good News For Struggling Young Men - EP 79

In this podcast, I'm speaking directly to you, young men out there. Whether you're in high school, college, or even junior high, I'm here to help you absolutely crush it. I know some of you might be struggling—you might feel like you're too fat, too skinny, not athletic, or maybe your family life is a mess. Trust me, I get it. I grew up with great parents, but I had my own struggles too. I wasn't born with a genius-level intellect or Olympic-level athletic skills. Everything I've achieved, from building million-dollar businesses to driving a McLaren, came from relentless hard work.

Here's what I want you to know: It doesn't matter if you're not the smartest, the most athletic, or the best-looking. What matters is the value you bring to the world. Forget about looks and talent—focus on being a good person, working hard, and never giving up. Your success in life will be determined by your attitude, character, effort, and commitment.

Being an adult is not as hard as people make it out to be. Once you take control of your life, you can make the right choices—whether it's starting a family, building friendships, or creating a successful business. I'm here to be your mentor, to remind you that you can do it, no matter where you come from or what you look like. You're a superman. Let's get to work.

  • What I Learned From The Ritz-Carlton That Made Me Millions - Ep 78

In today's episode, we dive into the incredible story of Horst Schulze, the creator behind the Ritz-Carlton brand, and the phenomenal book Excellence Wins. This book has been a game-changer for me, so much so that I've dog-eared nearly every page. We'll explore the "Ritz-Carlton mindset" and how Schulze built this iconic brand from the ground up, turning his vision into reality. From his humble beginnings in a small village to his relentless pursuit of excellence in the hospitality industry, Schulze's journey is nothing short of inspiring. We'll discuss how his approach to service, culture, and customer care redefined luxury hospitality and why this mindset is something we're actively implementing in Genesis.

One of the standout aspects of Schulze's philosophy is his belief that customer service is everyone's responsibility. At Ritz-Carlton, every employee is empowered to make decisions that enhance the guest experience, even if it means spending up to $2,000 to ensure satisfaction. This approach has led to legendary stories of employees going above and beyond for guests, a standard we strive to achieve at Genesis. While we may not yet be able to match that level of financial freedom, we've adopted a similar principle by empowering our team to spend up to $500 to resolve any issues. Our goal is to create an environment where clients feel valued and respected, knowing that their satisfaction is our top priority.

In addition to financial empowerment, the language and culture at Ritz-Carlton play a crucial role in their exceptional service. Schulze emphasized respect and formality, ensuring that every interaction with a guest was handled with care and professionalism. We've incorporated this into our practice by addressing our clients by name, using full sentences, and maintaining a respectful tone in all communications. By mirroring these principles, we're not just providing a service; we're building a culture that honors our clients and elevates their experience with us. The "Ritz-Carlton mindset" is more than just a hashtag for us—it's a commitment to excellence in every aspect of our business.

  • Embrace The Dark Drive - Ep 76

In this episode, I dive deep into an unpopular opinion that I believe every high-achieving entrepreneur needs to hear. Here's the deal—I've got a good life. A great wife, amazing kids, supportive parents, quality friendships, and a growing business. I'm healthy, living in a nice home, in a great town. Life is good, and I recognize that. I'm thankful. And no, I'm not secretly plotting to end it all—there's no suicidal ideation here.

But when a friend recently asked me if I could pinpoint a moment in the last six months where I felt truly peaceful, grateful, and low-stress, my answer was, "Nope." And that's not because I think I have a bad life or that I'm depressed. I'm simply acknowledging a reality that many entrepreneurs with high standards and relentless ambition face—consistent inner peace is not a reasonable expectation.

In this episode, I explore why, if you're an entrepreneur striving for world-class success, you're going to wrestle with negative emotions like impatience, frustration, and anger. But here's the twist—these struggles, these dark drives, are not curses; they're gifts. They fuel your drive to overachieve, to conquer, and ultimately, to make a greater positive impact on the world.

I also dive into a lesson from my love for comic books, sharing how characters like Wolverine, Batman, and the Hulk harness their inner darkness to become powerful, relentless forces for good. This "dark drive" isn't something to curse—it's something to embrace and leverage for incredible results.
