Mel’s Mindful Moments S1-E67
Ideally we want to get to a point in our lives where nothing can change our state of being.
Even when everything around us is in chaos, we can keep our composure and remain unmoved.
However, If you find yourself still getting upset by the actions of another,
If you can’t control your anger,
If little things still get upset, like being stuck in traffic, or an unexpected expense,
But, getting there is not automatic, you must work at it.
But, here are a few tips to help get there.
First we need to acknowledge the things that are out of our control. If we are on the highway, we can only drive our car, but we can avoid others if they try to impede in our lane.
Don’t assume that you know all the facts. We are too quick to judge sometimes. So gather the facts before letting yourself respond.
Do a self-check, maybe you are being triggered because it’s something that you lack? Like not enough rest, or maybe a nutritional deficiency, or some other health issue.
Replace “Reacting” to an issue, with “Resolving” an issue instead. Always allow yourself a little time before you say or do anything that has the potential to get you upset. Time is a big factor - It gives you some space to work with, allowing you to gather your thoughts and possibly coming up with a resolution.
Seek advise from a trusted friend Sometimes, all we need is to have someone listen us as we vent our frustrations. Then we can return to the problem with fresh eyes and a calmer approach.
