Mel’s Mindful Moments S1-E20 transcript:
Do we get anything out of procrastination?
From all the times I procrastinated in life, I thought I was gaining something from it.
But in reality, it only hurt me in one form or another.
So why do we procrastinate?
I believe it could be a number of things.
1. When it's something we don't want to do, it's real easy to put it off.
2. When we say we will remember something, to do x, y, and z, we forget as soon as it leaves our lips.
3. When it's someone else's priority and not our own. Because when it's mine, I seldom procrastinate.
4. When it's something that needs to be done, but it just isn't high on our priority list.
Now since we've have identified some of the causes, what can be done about it?
Well, whenever it comes to changing, as far as personal changes go, ...
... we must first change our attitude!
Next, we've got to use common sense.
I mean, obviously these things need to be done, they won't fix themselves.
And if it's our responsibility, we have to make sure that it gets done somehow!
Someone once told me, ...
"The cure for a short memory, is a short pencil."
So get yourself a notebook and list everything that you need to do.
Write a priority number next to each item.
Then schedule them one by one with a "Date To be completed", beside each one.
Now it just a matter of checking your list every day, and start working on each item until they are completed.
It's simple, but we make things harder than it needs to be.
Everything doesn't have to be complicated.
you'll feel a whole lot better about yourself, when you're getting those things done;
and you won't have time to procrastinate anymore!
