    but

Phoenix

Phoenix

    Every morning,
you are defining how your life would be like.

No, I&`&m not saying the cliche
that every morning you have the chance
    to make a different decision.

    What I&`&m suggesting is
that how you choose to live your morning
speaks a lot about how you choose to live your life.

There are people who choose to get out of the bed
    in the last minute
and grab whatever they can get to eat
or even give up breakfast all together.

These people are choosing to make their lives failures,
because apparently they have no idea
    how to make solid plans
    and make life organized.

There are another kind of people
who choose to make every morning in order.

    They get up relatively early
and can finish a lot of things
    before they go to work.

That makes the whole day way easier for them
and make them more productive in the office.

    Yes,
    how you live your morning
does speak a lot about how you live your life.

    Don&`&t underestimate it.

    Someone once said:
"Don't be afraid if you find a crack on your soul,
because that'll be where the sunshine comes in."

    Before I met you,
    I thought this was nothing
but another bunch of useless beautiful words.

    But after I met you,
I realized that this is my life.

    There're too many wonderful things
    in this world.
But life is so short and fragile.

    It was your appearance
    that made my life
full of these warmth and lights.

It was you who wiped away all the fear
    that dwelled in my heart
    and made feel
that I could overcome all the challenges
    that life holds for me.

Now, I can't and do not dare
to imagine a life without you.

    I don't know
what I'm supposed to do in a life like that.

    Some people say that
love makes one stupid. But to me,
    it made me brave.

    I thank destiny
for sending you to my side,
    my love.

    ON CHRISTMAS EVE
Phoenix

A friend of mine named Paul
    received an automobile
from his brother as Christmas present.

    On Christmas eve,
when Paul came out of his office,
    a street urchin
was looking around the shining new car,
    admiring it.

    "Is this your car, Mister?"
    he said.

    Paul nodded,
"My brother gave it to me for Christmas."

    The boy was astounded,
"You mean your brother gave it to you,
    and didn't cost you anything?"

    "Boy, I wish..."
    he hesitated.

    Of course
Paul knew what he was going to wish for.
    He was going to wish
he has a brother like that.
But what the lad said jarred Paul
all the way down his heels.

    "I wish,"
    the boy went on,
"that I could be a brother like that."

Paul looked at the boy in astonishment,
    then inpulsivly he added,
"Would you like to take a ride in my car?"

    "Oh, yes. I'd love that."

    After a short ride,
the boy turned his eyes aglow,
    said, "Mister, would you mind
driving in front of my house?"

    Paul smiled a little.
He thought he knew what the lad wanted.
He wanted to show his neighbours
that he could ride home in a big automobile.
    But Paul was wrong again.

"Would you stop at those with two steps?"
    the boy asked.

    He ran up stairs.
Then in a little while, Paul heard him coming back,
but he was not coming fast.

He was carrying his little crippled brother.
He set him down on the bottom step.
Then a sort of squeezed up against him
    and pointed to the car.

    "There she is, buddy,
just like I told you upstairs.
His brother gave it to him for Christmas
and didn't cost him a cent.

    And some day,
I'm gonna give you one just like it.
Then you can see for yourself
all the prettiest things in the windows
that I was trying to tell you about."

    Paul got off
and lifted the lad into the front of his car.
    The shinning eyed old brother
    climbed in beside him.
    And three of them
    began a memorable holiday ride.

    That Christmas eve,
    Paul learned what Jesus meant,
    when he said,
"It is more blessed to give than to receive..."

    NOSTALGIA

Phoenix

    When I was young,
Nostalgia was a tiny, tiny stamp,
    Me on this side,
    Mother on the other side.
    When I grew up,
Nostalgia was a narrow boat ticket,
    Me on this side,
My bride on the other side.
    But later on,
    Nostalgia was a lowly grave,
    Me on the outside,
    Mother on the inside.
    And at present,
    Nostalgia becomes a shallow strait,
    Me on this side,
    Mainland on the other side.

    SAYING GOODBYE TO CAMBRIDGE AGAIN

Phoenix

Very quietly I take my leave
    As quietly as I came here;
    Quietly I wave good-bye
To the rosy clouds in the western sky.

The golden willows by the riverside
    Are young brides in the setting sun;
Their reflections on the shimmering waves
Always linger in the depth of my heart.

The floating heart growing in the sludge
    Sways leisurely under the water;
In the gentle waves of Cambridge
I would be a water plant!

That pool under the shade of elm trees
    Holds not water but the rainbow from the sky;
Shattered to pieces among the duckweeds
Is the sediment of a rainbow-like dream.

To seek a dream? Just to pole a boat upstream
    To where the green grass is more verdant;
Or to have the boat fully loaded with starlight
And sing aloud in the splendor of starlight.
    向青草更青处漫溯
    满载一船星辉
    在星辉斑斓里放歌

    But I cannot sing aloud
    Quietness is my farewell music;
Even summer insects heap silence for me
    Silent is Cambridge tonight!

Very quietly I take my leave
    As quietly as I came here;
    Gently I flick my sleeves
Not even a wisp of cloud will I bring away

Phoenix

I don't know when it first started.

I don't really talk to my friends anymore.

We just send each other texts
    and emojis on social network.

And the ones who don't do this often gradually
fade away from my daily life.

I don't even talk to my family much anymore.

They all have their wonderful lives
inside their smartphones, just like me.

Those days when I can chat joyfully with people
who I love inside a cosy restaurant
with mouthwatering feast in front of us are long gone.

Sometimes when this thought come across my mind
I realize that I really miss this.

There are moments in which I thought to myself:
    I'm I still myself?
Or have I become my phone.

    Yes, technology is
    what keep us going forward.

But we really should not go too fast.

We need time to empty our minds
    and reflect on ourselves.

We need time to feel all the feelings
    that make us human.

    ME BEFORE YOU
    Clark,

A few weeks will have passed by the time you read this (evengiven your newfound organizational skills, I doubt you will have made it to Paris before early September). I hope the coffee is good and strong and the croissants fresh and that the weather is still sunny enough to sit outside on one of those metallic chairs that never sit quite level on the pavement. Its not bad, the Marquis. The steak is also good, if you fancy coming back for lunch. And if you look down the road to your left you will hopefully see L'Artisan Parfumeur where, after you read this, you should go and try the scent called something like Papillons Extreme (can't quite remember). I always did think it would smell great on you.

Okay, instructions over. There are a few things I wanted to say and would have told you in person but you would have got all emotional and you wouldn't have let me say all this out loud. You always did talk too much.

So here it is: the cheque you got in the initial envelope from Michael Lawler was not the full amount, but just a small gift, to help you through your first weeks of unemployment, and to get you to Paris.

When you get back to England, take this letter to Michael in his London office and he will give you the relevant documents so you can access an account he has set up for me in your name. This account contains enough for you to buy somewhere nice to live and to pay for your degree course and your living expenses while your are in full-time education.

My parents will have been told all about it. I hope that this, and Michael Lawler's legal work, will ensure there is as little fuss as possible.

Clark, I can practically hear you starting to hyperventilate from here. Don't start panicking, or trying to give it away - its not enough for you to sit on your arse for the rest of your life. But it should buy you your freedom, both from that little claustrophobic little town we both call home, and from the kind of choices you have so far felt you had to make.

I am not giving the money to you because I want you to feel wistful, or indebted to me, or to feel that it's some kind of bloody memorial.

I'm giving you this because there is not much that makes me happy any more. but you do.

I am concious that knowing me has caused you pain, and grief, and I hope that one day when you are less angry with me and less upset you will see not just that I could only have done the thing that I did, but also this will help you live a really good life, a better life, than if you hadn't met me.

You're going to feel uncomfortable in your new world for a bit. It always does feel strange to be knocked out of your comfort zone. But I hope you feel a bit exhilarated too. Your face when you came back from diving that time told me everything: there is a hunger in you, Clark. A fearlessness. You just buried it, like most people do.

I'm not really telling you to jump off tall buildings or swim with whales or anything (although I would secretly love to think you were), but to live boldly. Push yourself. Don't settle. Wear those stripy legs with pride. And if you insist on settling down with some ridiculous bloke, make sure some of this is squirrelled away somewhere. Knowing you still have possibilities is a luxury. Knowing I might have given them to you has alleviated something for me.

So this is it. You are scored on my heart, Clark. You were from the first day you walked in, with your ridiculous clothes and your bad jokes and your complete inability to ever hide a single thing you felt. You changed my life so much more than this money will ever change yours.

Don't think of me too often.I don't want to think of you getting all maudlin. Just live well.

    Just live.

    Love,

    Will

Phoenix

    Hi! It's your body here!
    Allow me to reintroduce myself.

I'm the home that you've always lived in.
    Surely you remember.
    We grew up together!

And I'm writing in this letter cause,
I feel neglected in this relationship,
very disappointed in what I've been seeing.

With your ambition to make money
    you sacrificed my well being,
which makes no sense in the least
    because when I get sick
    you sacrificed that same money
    to recuperate ME.

    And what's even more ironic
is with all your interest in profit
you can't even see the truth
that I'm worth over A BILLION DOLLARS.

    Don't believe me?
    Okay I'll prove it.

    If someone came to you
with a check for One Million
    and said “Here.
All I want in return is your eyesight.”

You will never be able to see another sunset
for the rest of your natural life.
    Would you take that deal?

    Ok, let's up the bid.

Suppose he had a check for Ten Million instead,
    And if you accepted
you would no longer have use of your arms or legs.
    Would you take THAT deal?

I can answer that for you.
    NO.
NO。

Those are silly options because you know that
as your body I am worth over a BILLION DOLLARS.

And don't get me started with the heart.
If I was a company, right?
This Heart wouldn't get Employee of the Month.
It would get the Employee of the LIFE!

Because throughout your entire existence as a person,
    your heart never stops working!

    Even when you're sleeping
    it doesn't stop beating,
    that's EVERY SECOND
    EVERY MINUTE
    EVERY DAY
and come to think of it
I can't recall you ever saying Thanks.

Anyway I don't want this to come off as rude.
Just asking for a little attention here dude.

I know you try to make me look perfect
    when you're Instagramming.
But we both know you been taking me for granted.

    Consider this an opportunity.
    After this video ends
don't click to the next one like you do usually.

    Take some time by yourself.
    Just, you and me.
Place your hand on your chest
and say “Thank You” to your heartbeat.

    To your EYES, LEGS, ARMS.
To your hands that your use for climbing.
To your lungs that bring you breathe
    without you even trying.

I do it all for you, cause you come first.
    Cause you're my homie!
We go way back, don't we?
    Like, birth?

    I just think it's time
you start treating me what I'm worth.

Phoenix

Latte
