Save 20% on all Nuzest Products WORLDWIDE with the code MIKKIPEDIA at www.nuzest.co.nz, www.nuzest.com.au or www.nuzest.com

This week on the podcast Mikki speaks to Dave Mathas, fat loss and metabolic health specialist at Team Biolayne, about a health restoration diet, or the diet after the diet. Commonly referred to as a reverse diet, David discusses what IS a health restoration diet (and how it differs from standard dieting), who is it for, what the benefits (and potential downsides) are of it, what some of the common mistakes people make when they embark on this approach, and how to approach it in a sustainable way. They also discuss expectations around the outcomes. This is a great listen for anyone who is interested in fat loss or who coaches fat loss.

David is an Army Combat Medic Veteran who served overseas in Iraq from 2010-2011. After finishing his career in the military, he went on to earn his Master’s Degree in Exercise Science from The University of South Florida, where he studied under Dr. Bill Campbell.  During his time at USF, David was a member of a number of research teams that have published peer-reviewed studies looking at metabolic rates and muscle recovery.

David started as an intern with Layne Norton in 2017 and worked himself up to being the first ever Team Biolayne coach, and in 2020 he wrote and published the Amazon Best Seller, ‘A Shell of Myself.’ David’s approach as a coach combines evidence-based practices with real-world application to find the perfect blend that fits his client’s lifestyle, preferences, and goals. In David’s spare time he really enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter, riding his horse, being outdoors, and listening to music.

David has experience working with all different clients for all different goals such as fat loss, reverse diet, muscle building, maintenance, lifestyle, and contest prep

This week on the podcast Mikki speaks to Guillaume Millet about the endurance athlete. They discuss factors which determine success, how important VO2 max is for someone going long,  Guillaume’s flush model and what creates fatigue, how we might train to be better athletes and build resilience against fatigue.

Dr. Guillaume Millet, PhD, is a professor at Jean Monnet University in Saint-Etienne.

From 1998 to 2013, he held various academic positions in France, including a 4-year full-time research contract at the French National Institute for Medical Research (INSERM).

In 2013, he moved to the University of Calgary where he directed a research team of ~15 trainees, the Neuromuscular Fatigue Lab. He also was Vice-Chair Research of the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology from 2014 to 2016.

Back to France in 2018, he received a very competitive IDEXLYON fellowship (1,16 million €), a program that aims to attract outstanding scientists with a strong international track record and now leads the ActiFS (Physical Activity, Fatigue, Health) academic chair.

Prof. Millet was named at the Institut Universitaire de France as a Senior member in 2019 and director of the inter-university Laboratory of Human Movement Biology in 2020.

His general research area investigates the physiological, neurophysiological and biomechanical factors associated with fatigue, both in extreme exercise and in patients (neuromuscular diseases, cancer, ICU). His research is focusing on understanding fatigue in order to create tailored rehabilitation programs for clinical populations in order to enhance patients’ quality of life.

In July 2021, he had published 5 books and 260 journal articles (cited > 10,700 times), his H index was 55. He has supervised 37 postdoctoral fellows and PhD students coming from 13 different countries and he served as an external reviewer for over 60 PhD candidates. • Mitochondrial Mastery: Exploring Energy, Fatigue and Long COVID with Dr. Christabelle Yeoh

Save 20% on all Nuzest Products WORLDWIDE with the code MIKKIPEDIA at www.nuzest.co.nz, www.nuzest.com.au or www.nuzest.com

This week on the podcast Mikki Speaks to Dr Christabelle Yeoh on the health of our mitochondria. They discuss the influence of mitochondria on energy and fatigue (spoiler: massive) and the major influencers are. Dr Yeoh works on cases of fatigue, and in today’s podcast she focuses on the impact of long covid and what can be done to restore mitochondrial health and help mitigate the fatigue symptoms. They also discuss testing that is available and how to determine what is going on at the root cause.

Dr Christabelle Yeoh has over 2 decades of experience in clinical care, most of which has focused on understanding root causes of chronic disease. She works with her patients to optimise digestive health, microbiome, mitochondria and brain performance. She applies the premise that dysfunctions can be corrected with established practices of nutritional and environmental medicine. Through clinical assessments, you gain a perspective of your gastrointestinal and microbiome function. We then apply specific lifestyle and nutrition advice to positively influence metabolism.

Dr Yeoh has a strong interest in chronic disease management, neurological, gastrointestinal and metabolic health. She is passionate about sharing her in-depth knowledge on the interconnectedness of human metabolism, biology and behaviour. Dr Yeoh dedicates her practice to working with patients with complex chronic conditions, neuro-immune mediated or chronic inflammatory illness. She helps address the chronic conditions that can be related to adverse factors in her patient’s lifestyle, nutrition and environment to help optimise their overall function and wellbeing.

Dr Yeoh graduated from medicine at the University of London in 1999 and obtained her membership with the Royal College of Physicians (UK). She has a Masters degree in Nutrition from King’s College London. After practicing hospital medicine, she worked as a general physician with an interest in Nutritional and Environmental Medicine. She was a director and past president at the Australasian College of Nutritional and Environmental Medicine (ACNEM) and is active on the teaching faculty.

  • The evolution of ageing with Prof. Michael R. Rose

Save 20% on all Nuzest Products WORLDWIDE with the code MIKKIPEDIA at www.nuzest.co.nz, www.nuzest.com.au or www.nuzest.com

This week on the podcast Mikki Speaks to Professor Michael R Rose.

Dr. Rose is an evolutionary biologist whose work on aging has transformed the field. They discuss his entry into evolutionary biology, how his mentors encouraged his studies that eventually led to his revolutionary work in aging. They discuss how we are protected during our younger years from the detrimental impact of modern life to an extent, so humans as a species can survive, however once past the reproductive years, this changes, thus influencing the aging process. This has implications for dietary choices, activity levels and even how we socialise, which is covered in today’s podcast.

An evolutionary biologist, evolution has described the field of aging research as “after Rose,” thanks to his influential book Evolutionary Biology of Aging. In 1997, Rose was awarded the Busse Research Prize by the World Congress of Gerontology. In 2004, he published a technical summary of his work on the postponement of aging, Methuselah Flies, followed in 2005 by a popular book on the topic, The Long Tomorrow.  He has more than 300 publications, and has given hundreds of scientific talks around the world. He is currently a Distinguished Professor of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of California, Irvine and looking forward to retirement.
