In this episode, Josh reveals a little about his recent experience with losing a relative and being confronted with past behavior loops including co-dependency, cognitive distortions, and numbing/avoiding strategies. Miles holds space and shares some literature and strategies and both of them talk about anger and the quality of having high standards and also high self-compassion.
This was a sort of accidental episode. Before our last recording, Josh and I were talking and I'd mentioned a surge of anger that was new to me and Josh hit record! He wanted to catch an unscripted and raw moment and run with it for a podcast episode. Josh has done a lot of work around anger and brought a lot of self-knowledge and personal work to the episode and asked me a lot of questions about my anger. You'll learn about yourself along the way- what anger may be for you, what it wants, what to do with it, where it may come from, and other helpful tangents. This was an oopsy surprise recording so bear with the raw and unedited moments (this is the good stuff anyway).
It's STILL the season for seasonal affective disorder, aka, the damn gloomy weather makes me feel like junk! While this may not affect you where you live, out here in the PNW it's the real deal. For some, the fall and winter here are their preferred months (bit strange to us that experience SAD), and for others, it's the time of year we all threaten to move (until spring and summer woo us back). In this episode we dig into SAD, how it is related to depression and MDD (Major Depressive Disorder), the clinical diagnosis, and what the heck you can do about it.
What the heck is my purpose in life? What gives me meaning? Where do I "find it"? In this one we dig into these questions, what the first half of life's purpose and meaning is vs the second half, and what the heck the Japanese word Ikigai means. We get into some personal backstories of each other's upbringings and what purpose and meaning (s) have been uncovered and explored. Expect to learn more about yourself in this one by the questions posed and examples given.
In this episode, we follow up on some of the previous discussions on trauma and adverse childhood experiences, then move into how these may have shaped our views of what masculinity is and how we "should" enact it. We discuss what masculinity is as defined by culture, personally, and we even consult the dictionary to find out what this mysterious word means in today's climate.
In this episode, we share a bit about our backgrounds; our upbringings, our struggles, and triumphs, and where we are trying to go. As you listen, you might recognize a bit of yourself in our stories. This was recorded early on and since then we have learned a few audio tricks which we are still perfecting but we hope that you will listen in to learn and grow with us.
