Today I am joined by Mimi Striplin. Mimi is the founder of The Tiny Tassel, a jewelry, clothing, and accessories brand inspired by the vibrant colors of Charleston, SC available online and at the shop’s flagship location, located in downtown Charleston. A native of Spartanburg, SC, Striplin moved to the Holy City to attend College of Charleston, a liberal arts university, where she studied corporate communications. After a short stint in the corporate world, Striplin desired a more fulfilling life, one where she could take control of her time and do what she loves. The result of pursuing the happiness she desired is The Tiny Tassel. The brand took off in 2015 on Etsy, the craft retailer website, where Striplin handcrafted and sold her namesake product, tiny tassel earrings, in multiple colors. In March of 2021, Striplin opened the brick and mortar location of The Tiny Tassel. Today, her shop is still only one of two businesses on the historic Spring Street strip occupied by a Black-owned boutique. Among the pastel-painted walls and locally sourced, low country chic interior finds, customers will discover comfy garments, and beautiful handbags in classic prints and bright and bold colors, as well as vivid hand beaded jewelry for every occasion, and appointed party goods and other accessories from brands Striplin loves. Clothing and headbands are designed by Keiko Striplin, Mimi’s mother, who studied at Bunka Fashion College of Tokyo. Striplin’s business and thought leadership have been featured on The Today Show and Good Morning America, as well as Essence, Southern Living and other publications.
In this episode, Mimi and I talked about the Tiny Tassel, how she has created a thriving business, her heart behind coaching other women in business, how she has overcome certain things in her life, and so much more. You all are going to love Mimi.
