  • Nervous System Communication

I'm kicking off our Somatic Communication Series with an emphasis on the power of somatic communication.

We'll cover the concept of "AHA" moments—those enlightening realizations that spark a deeper connection with ourselves and others.

The inner experience of someone having an "AHA" moment can be described as a "felt realization" or a "somatic awakening." It's the sensation of clarity that resonates through the body and mind, where something clicks on a deeper level, aligning thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations. This experience often brings a sense of relief, connection, or insight-like everything suddenly making sense not just intellectually but through the body as well. It's a moment of integration where the body, heart, and mind come into harmony

  • Brent Pella - Comedy as a Healing Modality

Brent Pella joins Steven Jaggers to discuss his journey as a human, what led him into comedy and what we can expect to hear about in Conscious Bro, his upcoming YouTube Comedy Special.

Brent's journey to becoming a comedian tells a story of transformation, resilience, and the power of humor to address life's issues. Born and raised in Davis, California, Pella's early years were shaped by the influence of his single mother, who encouraged him to fully embrace his silly, expressive nature.

Pella's path to comedy took an unexpected turn during his college years. Initially focused on playing basketball, Brent found himself sidelined by a broken ankle. However, this setback became the catalyst for a new chapter in his life. Unable to pursue his athletic dreams, Pella shifted his focus to film and media, eventually discovering a passion for comedy.

Inspired by comedy legends The Lonely Island's efforts on SNL, Pella began exploring the world of sketch comedy and stand-up. Drawing on his upbringing and personal experiences, Brent developed a unique comedic style that resonated with audiences.

One of the key elements of Pella's comedy showcases an ability to tackle sensitive topics with humor and wit. From politics to societal norms, Brent believes that nothing should off limits as long as the comedic intention involves laughter rathering than inciting spite or anger. Through his performances, Pella aims to bring awareness to societal tensions and holding patterns, using comedy as a tool for healing through understanding.

Pella's creative process is akin to body work, as he uses humor to release tension and spark conversation. Like a skilled therapist, Brent identifies the pressure points in society and applies comedic pressure to elicit a healing response. By challenging conventional thinking and encouraging laughter, Pella creates a space for open expression.

While comedy remains his primary focus, Pella also recognizes the importance of showcasing different aspects of himself beyond the comedian archetype. Like Jim Carrey or Ben Stiller before him, Brent understands that life is a series of chapters, each offering opportunities for growth through exploration. Whether he's on stage or behind the scenes, Pella continues to evolve as an artist, storyteller, and advocate for laughter.

Brent Pella's journey to becoming a comedian serves as testament to the transformative power of humor. From his humble beginnings in Davis to the stages of comedy clubs and theaters, Brent has used laughter to navigate life's ups and downs with graceful authenticity. As he continues to make audiences laugh, Pella reminds us of the importance of finding joy and connection in a world that can often feel divided.

  • How to STOP People Pleasing (Solocast)

🧘‍♀️FREE 5 DAY Breathwork Experience ↪️https://somaticbreath.work/5-day-challenge 📅UPCOMING Breathwork Trainings ↪️https://somaticbreath.work/trainings In the grand orchestra of life, there exists a silent melody, often drowned out by the demands of other people around us. It's the plea of one's own authenticity, a voice obscured by the ceaseless pursuit of pleasing everyone we call into our inner circle, and even those who exists on the peripheral of our being. The siren call of people pleasing is one that many humans are familiar with, myself included. People pleasing becomes a toxic trait that can subtly infiltrate our lives, slowly eroding our sense of self, leaving us feeling unheard and even unsatisfied with the relationships we've called into our life. In the world of personal development, understanding how we become people pleasers, the detrimental effects of this behavior, and the path to stop people pleasing remains a crucial path we must forge in order to improve our overall health on most levels. For those of us who grew up in turbulent households, where chaos reigned and emotional abuse cast its long shadow, the seeds of people pleasing were sown quite early in life. This inclination closely aligns with the "fawn response," a survival strategy driven by the need to create harmony while also appeasing others. It's a well-intentioned, intelligent nervous system response that helps us navigate the storms during our formative years. However, as we mature, these people pleasing patterns cease to serve our higher selves and can hinder our experience very quickly. People pleasers are often marked by their heightened sensitivity, a blessing and a curse. Those of us who have the habit of people pleasing possess an uncanny ability to pick up on the tiniest shifts in energy, detecting distress or dissatisfaction in others like a finely-tuned radar. When chronic people pleasers sense discord or disapproval, it sends shockwaves through their nervous system, triggering discomfort. As a result, most people pleasers become chameleons, constantly changing their colors to match the expectations or desires of those around them. This constant shape-shifting, this insatiable urge to change as a means of making everyone else happy, eventually takes its toll, leading to a profound energy drain and negative side effects that reverberate throughout the lives of people pleasers. People pleasing can lead to a litany of adverse health effects, both mental and physical. The constant self-negation, the suppression of one's true desires and needs, creates a disconnect from one's authentic self. This dissonance can manifest as anxiety, depression, and a pervasive sense of dissatisfaction with life. To liberate oneself from the shackles of people pleasing, one must embark on a profound journey of self-discovery and self-acceptance. It begins with the courage to reconnect with your true self, to call back the scattered fragments of your energy from the myriad of people you've tried to please. Rediscovering your authentic self requires regular somatic check-ins throughout the day. By honoring your preferences, you not only heal yourself but also contribute positively to the world around you. This is where the true transformation begins for chronic people pleasers. By developing the capacity to voice your needs and desires with the utmost clarity, you empower yourself to navigate life authentically. It's a daunting task, especially for those who have long been trapped in the labyrinth of people pleasing, but it is a journey worth embarking upon to live fully. The journey is not without its challenges, but it is through these challenges that we grow and evolve. By voicing your truth, you may encounter resistance or disagreements with the people around you, but remember, it's about being okay with being misunderstood and embracing the conflicts that arise. Breaking free from the clutches of people pleasing allows you to rediscover your own frame, your own unique somatic awareness. By anchoring yourself in your true preferences, you cultivate healthy relationships based on authenticity rather than pretense. You attract people who appreciate and resonate with the real you, not the inauthentic representative of yourself you've been showing the world. As you journey down this path, you will find more energy while experiencing a deeper connection with your true desires and needs. The ultimate goal is to anchor firmly in your own being while allowing others the same freedom to be themselves. It's about speaking your truth, being honest with yourself while also embracing the beautiful tapestry of human interaction, conflicts and all. In the end, it's not about changing yourself to make everyone else happy; it's about changing yourself to make yourself happy, and in doing so, creating a more authentic, fulfilling life for everyone you touch.

  • The Roots of Passive Aggressive Energy and How to Heal it (Solocast)

    🧘‍♀️FREE 5 DAY Breathwork Experience ↪️https://somaticbreath.work/5-day-challenge

    📅UPCOMING Breathwork Trainings ↪️https://somaticbreath.work/trainings

Our emotions often lie veiled beneath the surface, people frequently find themselves entangled in a web of passive aggression. It's a subtle toxin that festers within, eroding the very foundation of our relationships if we grant this behavior control over our interactions.

The question we must grapple with is not merely what passive aggression means, but why it arises and how we can release its grip on our lives. Passive aggression, as I have come to understand it, exists as a consequence of suppressed emotions, particularly anger. Passive aggression manifests as the shadow that follows us when we neglect to acknowledge and process the natural vibrations of our emotional landscape. In our relentless pursuit of stoicism and control, we have inadvertently suppress our emotional intelligence, leaving a void where innate emotions should have gracefully flowed.

To comprehend passive aggression, we must first recognize the essential role emotions play in human life. Emotions are the invisible currents guiding our decisions, whether we are conscious of it or not. Our emotions propel us towards love, creation, and joy, while also possessing the power to steer us into turmoil, conflict, or suffering. These emotions are not our enemy but our compass, a guiding light through the labyrinth of existence. In a world that often discourages emotional expression, we have lost touch with our ability to navigate natural emotional currents.

We have been conditioned to suppress our feelings, to "suck it up" and "be tough." Yet, we are inherently emotional beings, and our emotions are designed to flow through us, each one carrying a unique message to be felt and processed, usually in under 90 seconds. Anger, often at the heart of passive aggression, arises as a sentinel for our boundaries. As children, we learn to individuate, distinguishing between our experiences and those of our parents.

Anger serves as the guardian of our boundaries, alerting us when they are transgressed. The true form of expressed anger represents a natural, healthy response. However, as adults, we may find ourselves harboring anger. This is not because we are "angry people" but because we have not provided ourselves with a healthy outlet for this emotion. When anger is suppressed, it turns inward, festering within us. It becomes passive, sneaking out in ways we may not even consciously recognize.

Passive aggression takes root when we have accumulated enough unexpressed anger that our body can no longer contain it. It begins to seep into our interactions, poisoning them, and causing us to react rather than respond consciously. This hidden anger becomes the puppeteer, making decisions on our behalf, and wreaking havoc in our relationships.

The journey starts with somatic practices, and somatic breathwork can become a powerful ally on this path. Somatic breathwork creates a sacred space for emotions to surface and flow through us. Soma centric breath liberates us from the shackles of suppressed feelings and allowing humans to regain control of their emotional landscape.

By engaging in somatic practices, we can release the pent-up anger and make space for conscious decision-making. The first step towards relinquishing passive aggressiveness manifests through developing somatic awareness and emotional intelligence.

We must learn to recognize when emotions are stirring within us and be honest with ourselves about what we are feeling. By acknowledging our emotional state, we can begin the process of healing. Once we have cleared the emotional fog, we become aware of the messages these emotions carry. If it's anger, it signals a boundary breach.

Armed with this awareness, we can take the next step: communicating our feelings effectively. Imagine a world where people not only understand what they are feeling but can also articulate those emotions to friends and family. This is the world we can create by embracing somatic practices and nurturing our emotional literacy.

We must become the observer of our emotions, the silent witness who can translate their wisdom into conscious action. In this journey, patience is paramount. Developing emotional intelligence through mastering somatic practices represents a greater process that requires dedication and self-compassion. But in this process, we reclaim our birthright—the ability to feel the full spectrum of emotions, to navigate life's ebbs and flows with grace and awareness.

Passive aggression, born from suppressed emotions, can only be vanquished by unlocking the doors of our emotional prison. Somatic practices like breathwork offer the key—a way to release the pent-up emotional baggage while restoring harmony within ourselves and the relationships that make up life.

  • Madelyn Moon - Creative Intimacy & Embodied Expression

How do we transcend the static idea of authenticity as a noun and embrace it as a dynamic, ever-evolving process? A recent conversation between Madelyn Moon and Steven Jaggers delves into the world of soma centric practices, revealing a transformative approach to unleashing our most genuine selves. Somatic intelligence, as described by Jaggers, offers a fresh perspective on authenticity. Rather than viewing it as a fixed state, he paints it as a verb, a process, and a journey of continuous change. As Moon eloquently puts it, "You're like an ever-evolving being. The you yesterday is going to be different than the you tomorrow."

This fluid perspective directly challenges the notion of imposter syndrome, a concept that often plagues those seeking authenticity. Jaggers suggests that imposter syndrome can serve as a guidepost for expansion. It's a sensation that arises when we push the boundaries of our comfort zone, indicating that we're venturing into uncharted territory. Steven likens it to trying on different personas or outfits—experimenting with aspects of ourselves that might feel unfamiliar. This, he asserts, is the key to expanding our capacity for genuine expression.

The path to authentic expression, according to Jaggers, is grounded in somatic practices that engage the body, emotions, and mind in a bottom-up process. One of the most notable modalities, Somatic breathwork, allows humans to achieve these goals simply through conscious breathing. This process begins with embracing discomfort and pushing the boundaries of expression. Moon echoes this sentiment, drawing parallels to ecstatic dance, a practice that encourages individuals to break free from the confines of their minds and tap into their soma by moving in unconventional ways. While it may seem intimidating, this discomfort holds the key to unlocking a broader physical and emotional experience. Madelyn's work in guiding individuals to become the main characters in their lives further exemplifies the power of somatic practices.

Through group activities and theatrical projects, Moon encourages participants to step out of their comfort zones, challenging them to interact with the world from new perspectives. By engaging in performative experiences, people can shed inhibitions, fostering a deeper connection to their authentic selves. The heart of this approach lies in the concept of "embedding." Jaggers emphasizes that embodying new shapes and forms is essential to expanding our capacity for authenticity. Just as actors internalize their roles to bring characters to life, individuals can adopt and embrace various aspects of themselves.

Through somatic practices like breathwork, people begin to discover the nuances of their emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations, allowing them to tap into a more profound sense of self. In a society often fixated on outcomes and results, this approach encourages a shift towards the process itself. The journey becomes a constant exploration of emotions, energies, and identities that present themselves on any given day. By acknowledging and allowing these experiences to flow through us, we open doors to greater self-understanding and authenticity.

As we navigate the complex landscape of modern existence, the pursuit of authenticity is more vital than ever. Madelyn Moon and Steven Jaggers offer a refreshing perspective—one that transcends the static notions of identity and embraces the fluidity of being. Through somatic-centric practices, they invite us to embody the ever-evolving verb that is authenticity, reminding us that our true expression is not a destination but an ongoing, transformative journey.
