Today Neil and I talk all about what the #LightTheWorld campaign has meant to our family over the past several Christmas seasons, some of the good we've been able to be part of and how easy it is to get involved, no matter WHAT faith you belong to. We share some personal experiences and my strong personal philosophy of WHY social media exists, and the power of doing a little good on the internet and how far that can go to change lives. We talk about some favorite memories of #LightTheWorld service days and some of the things we're excited to do this year. If you want to join us you can go to lightTheWorld.org to find a calendar of 25 very simple ways you can serve in the 25 days of the Christmas season, and even sign up to get simple text alerts each day reminding you what that day's theme is. We hope you will join us in making this year the best Christmas ever by bringing Christ back into the true reason for the season.

Imagine what it would be like to go from everything being totally normal one day, to finding out through a voicemail the next day that your child has cancer and needs to seen by an oncologist immediately. That's just the beginning of my friend Amanda Smith's story and today she has graciously agreed to share her family's story of her 7 year old daughter Lynden's diagnosis and 6 rounds of chemo that started only a few months ago. The MOST remarkable part of this story is that Lynden and her family have raised over $40,000 for the pediatric cancer research foundation, all because Lynden asked her mom if she'd donate to the Ronald McDonald box every time she went through the drive-thru after Lynden was diagnosed. Lynden also has a remarkable story of chopping off and donating her hair to crowns for courage a YEAR before she ever knew she would need that same donation herself. Their story is incredibly inspiring, heartwarming and so perfect to lead us into the holiday season where everyone's hearts tend to be a little more open to giving. If this episode touches your heart like it did mine, I would love for you to share a screenshot of it to your IG stories and make sure you tag me @mintarrow so I can see it! You can also go to our shownotes and find links to donate to the pediatric cancer research foundation and buy one of Lynden's lotus bracelets to help her raise even more money for childhood cancer research.

The season of giving and doing a little more good around the world is upon us, and this week I'm bringing a guest on to tell you about one of my FAVORITE non-profit organizations, Days for Girls. Celeste Mergens, the founder and CEO of Days for Girls, shares with me her incredibly powerful story of being led by the Lord to start an organization to help women and young girls in developing countries with reusable supplies for menstruation. Days for girls also teaches and educates people globally about their bodies, how to stay safe and avoid human trafficking and become more empowered to stay in school, be leaders in their careers, and wait till their bodies are ready to bear children. The life-changing impact that Days for Girls is having around the world is absolutely astounding to me, with 1.5 million women now empowered to take their days back monthly when many of them used to have to stay home with no other solution during those 5 days of their cycle. They have a long way to go with 50 million women suffering from a lack of solution and education around this issue. We're going to talk about how you can get involved and help and even come to a service project with me next week if you're in the Salt Lake Area, and if not you can go to the show notes to find out how you can help from anywhere.

As an 8-year helicopter pilot for the US Army and now wife to a man in active duty, toting two darling kids all over the United States and sharing her journey every step of the way, Amy Lou Hawthorne is an American sweetheart who has stolen the hearts of many of my current listeners and followers. I recently asked on my instagram stories for suggestions of people to interview for Veteran's Day who either were in the armed forces themselves or married to someone in active duty, and Amy Lou Hawthorne was the overwhelming favorite and most suggested out of anyone. I was delighted to find out that not only is she an army wife who understands the struggle of having a spouse away on active duty, but she herself also served in the military for 8 years as a helicopter pilot. Amy shares candidly her ups and downs of being in the military, the leadership lessons she learned, how its affected her marriage and her children as she's raised them through several deployments and most importantly, she educates me on how to better serve and understand and appreciate those who sacrifice so much to make our country safe. I'm so thankful so many of you pointed me to her and I really think you're going to love this interview.

Have you ever wondered why some women wear a head scarf, where that tradition comes from, and why it’s important to them? Today I have the honor of interviewing a fellow modest fashion blogger Leena from the blog With Love Leena all about her journey in wearing hijab, dressing modestly and finding the confidence to be herself in a world where modesty isn’t always easy. She shares with me why modest fashion is so important to her, how she found her confidence in wearing a head scarf even though she’s the only woman in her family who does this, and what she wishes other people would understand about women who choose to dress like she does. I was amazed by all the parallels between her belief and mine in the importance of modesty, and I hope you’ll listen and be inspired by her beautiful perspective too.

This was a hot topic that I polled my audience about several months ago and I'm happy to bring on my best friend who's an expert at creating and maintaining deep friendships, my husband Neil. Together we talk about the importance of having good friends, where to find those friends, what to do (and NOT to do) to make sure your friendships are rooted in trust, and even some advice for parents whose kids are struggling with friendships. We hope that you'll find some ideas that are helpful and uplifting in this episode and if you do we'd love to hear about it at the end if you'll take just a second to leave us a review on Apple Podcasts.

If you're into business podcasts or online business websites you've proooobably heard of Pat Flynn, the host of Smart Passive Income and blogger at smartpassiveincome.com. But have you heard his story of losing his job in 2008 like so many other Americans, and what he did to catapult his entrepreneurial career after that job loss? Today Pat shares his candid experience of job loss, how he picked himself up after that blow and decided to take action, and where that action has led him over the past 11 years. He shares some incredible wisdom and inspiring advice for anyone who feels a little timid about what they might have to offer the online world, how you DON'T have to be the most credentialed expert in your field, and even how that may be to your advantage to be just a step or two ahead of someone else wanting to do what you've done. I came away totally inspired from this interview and I know you guys are going to walk away uplifted and inspired by this interview too.

This week we're taking one of my most frequently asked questions and answering it in an entire episode. Because I share my love for scripture study frequently on social media, I also get a lot of questions about HOW I study the scriptures. And when I asked recently what you guys wanted to see or hear from me, one of the top requests that came in over and over was for me to explain how I do my daily scripture study, what it looks like, where I fit it in, and how to get more out of a daily scripture study.
During this episode you'll hear Neil and me reference the Book of Mormon frequently, which is another Testament of Jesus Christ written by people in the American Continent during the same time as the bible, by people who were followers of Jesus Christ. Although we talk about the Book of Mormon frequently, we also strongly believe in the Bible to also be the word of God and have specifically studied the New Testament all year long.
I hope that no matter what faith you belong to, whether you're Jewish or Christian or Islamic or a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints like me or not, that you'll hear what Neil and I share in this episode and apply it to your own scripture study and your own version of strengthening your personal spirituality.
