A 22 year old man was stabbed on the Coffs Coast just before 9.30pm on Saturday night.

The man was reportedly walking south on Grafton Street, when he was approached by a man, not known to him.

After a brief conversation, he was stabbed in the back before the armed man fled, last seen on Park Avenue.

The injured man was treated by NSW Ambulance Paramedics before being taken to Coffs Harbour Base Hospital in a stable condition. His injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Detectives have commenced an investigation and as inquiries continue would like to speak to a man who may be able to assist with their inquiries.

The man has been described as being about 180cm tall, of a slim build, and with a short brown beard. He was wearing an orange/red coloured hooded jumper, blue trackpants and black shoes at the time.
